12.01.2022 Science at Stannies - Princes Trust Australia Achieve Fest 2020 with Mrs Zarczynski Achieve Fest is aligned to the first three components of the Princes Trust Australias flagship youth initiative Achieve, an inquiry-based framework that engages young people in learning through careers education and enterprise skills development. They are: Who I Am: A foundation block underpinned by research it sparks ideas for participants to explore their interests and how they connec...t to potential career pathways. The Twenties: An ever-evolving set of twenty-minute micro learnings that develop enterprise skills and grow in complexity. Take Action: Align participants with a range of established local and global organisations that already have existing social action campaigns and work experience opportunities. This was an exciting opportunity for students to extend their learning past the regular curriculum and develop critical thinking skills through meaningful social action and real-world application.

11.01.2022 STEM at Stannies: Year 8 Skylap project with Mr Thurston. The Skylap design project supports students in designing and making a flying aircraft and testing it using the PowerAnchor. Construction techniques are straightforward so that they can make quick modifications. As they measure the speed and lift of the aircraft they gain a deeper understanding of the principles of flight. How does wing shape affect speed; how does weight affect lift? In STEM classes at Stannies, the best way to understand a problem is to make something and test it.
