23.01.2022 Our biggest thanks goes to each and every one of our volunteers for the time, effort and passion they put into the work they do. As you can probably guess there are so many moving parts that happen behind the scenes from - receiving donations - making sure items are ready and suitable to go out to our families... - organising items to go in the deliveries which suit each family's needs - answering the phones - events & marketing .....the list literally keeps going. All of those roles are imperative to providing support to people who need it.

22.01.2022 A note from PHSG HQ to all the lovely people wanting to donate clothing at the moment.

20.01.2022 MEET OUR TEAM Hi, Im Dixie I joined Starting Over Support SOS as a volunteer after hearing about the program from fellow colleagues from my other volunteer...ing role with Soroptimist International Maylands Peninsula. At the time I felt the program sounded so worthwhile. I have volunteered now for over two years and can certainly testify thats the case. Its a wonderful thing to not just want to be able to help and support those in need, but to be a part of this organization where this happens every day. I have two roles at SOS; Administration where I speak to members of the wider community who call to offer donations of household goods and furniture, and I also help with the many family referrals, selecting and packing all the items that each family or individual may need. Our hope every day is that we make a difference in their lives no matter how small. We all love it so much when we get to pack extra things for the children. We dont get to see these folks of course, but we often sit and think just how excited the littles ones will be when they open their packages or their backpacks that are full of fun things they may not be expecting. These past months, I have also volunteered on the Touchpoint team. Thats been such a wonderful support program for so many isolated folks. Its also been so very humbling to be able to check on them, just have a chat and make them feel they are not alone. Thank you Dixie, we appreciate all you do and the ways you show care. @ Guildford, Western Australia

20.01.2022 * Our leaders of tomorrow * Earlier this year, Charlotte, one of the students in the Out of School Hours (OSH) Club, asked her teacher Nelly if they could please donate to the poor. Nelly went to great lengths to find us at SOS & People Who Care and set up a Donations Box in the classroom.... It was our greatest pleasure to be invited to visit with them last week and answer the many questions they had about why we all do what we do. Their donation box was overflowing with clothes, toys and a host of wonderful items we will be able to pass on to those in need. On top of this, they presented their beautiful handmade cards with pictures and their own personal messages. We talked about #bucketsoflove and just how much their kindness will mean to so many families and children. What an absolutely wonderful way to start the day. These are the stories that touch our hearts; so giving, so caring at such a young age; doesn’t our future looks bright in their hands?

20.01.2022 Wed like to say a very special thanks to Maureen from Darlington who so generously donated many hours of her time at home making us these beautiful pot holders for our families. We have been so humbled by the number of people who have offered their support in many different ways over these past few weeks. Thank you to everyone who continue to support us and even more so during these challenging times.

15.01.2022 In 2020, the demand for our service has increased dramatically and we really need your help! The events of this year have meant that we weren't able to host any of our planned fundraisers, including our annual High Tea. So, we have adapted and organised a new fundraiser that is simple, safe and easy for everyone to participate. We are calling out to our 4,486 followers in our Facebook community to help us reach our 2020 fundraising goal of $20,000.... By donating $20 (or any amount you can) you will make a huge difference in supporting families & individuals who are starting over after a crisis. We would be so grateful if you could share and encourage your friends, families, school groups, sports clubs, businesses etc to get on board, because every single dollar will make a huge difference. There will be regular updates as we strive to achieve this goal. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Click on the link & select STARTING OVER SUPPORT in the drop down box. Add 20 IN 2020 in the comment box so we can keep you updated on our progress. https://www.peoplewhocare.org.au/donate/donate-money We are so very grateful for the wonderful community we are a part of. 12.01.2022 In July & August, we broke records with 39 families receiving deliveries of household items to help them set up their new life - that's 78 families in just two months. We're sure you've heard it many times but with the events of this year causing such financial strain, stress, isolation, and increased pressure on families; the requests for help have risen dramatically. The time, effort and money that goes into these deliveries can only be achieved with the support of our MA...NY volunteers and donors. Even with another record broken of 47 pickups in July and 105 in August, our warehouse stocks are still very low. If you would like to make a donation of household items please contact our donations team on 0403 367 767 or [email protected]. 03.01.2022 Meet our Friday Angels", Betty and Diane (Di) This wonderful mother and daughter team have been volunteering with Starting Over Support for a number of years. Di first came on board with us in 2016 with a passion for helping to ensure those who have escaped domestic disruption are not forced back into a bad situation. Making our clients feel they have something of their own and someone cares is very important. ... One of the things that has changed over the past 5 years since Di started volunteering with us, is that we now have men onboard with the referrals which was not the case originally at SOS. Di has also dedicated a lot of her time to being actively involved with Soroptimist International - Perth, Australia over the last 11 years and is now the President for the Soroptimist International Maylands Peninsula Inc.. The Soroptimist group support SOS throughout the year with generous funding. Betty joined Di not long after in 2017. Apart from raising a large family who all still gather at Betty’s home every Monday night for dinner, she has given a lifetime of service as an Aged Care Manager and volunteering with another charity group and call centres. Since she started, Betty has seen us grow and make changes to allow us to be more organized and able to accommodate for the demand. She gets great satisfaction when she leaves to go home knowing that everything she has done has been well worth it and appreciated. So what do they get up to on Fridays? Although we don’t operate on Fridays, there are many referrals that will often need to go out first thing Monday morning, so they work together to pick and pack the referrals ready for the coming week. It's so lovely to hear them both discussing how they want to go about their day and just how they can make someone’s life a little cheerier by adding all little extra touches like making sure things are colour matched and packed in the nicest possible way. Thank you Betty and Di for your amazing service to SOS; you are both so incredibly humble and loved.

03.01.2022 Our next generation of super stars! It's so wonderful to see kids getting involved and working hard to help people who need assistance. A big thank you to Mt Lawley Primary School - Official for your continued support! ... https://www.facebook.com/MLPScentenary/posts/3870282896325085

If you are still wanting to donate, click on the link below and it will take you straight to the donation page. https://www.peoplewhocare.org.au/donate/donate-money

02.01.2022 We are blessed. SOS has some amazing people supporting us. Gerry Loermans popped in to see us last week with a whole bundle of surprises. Gerry started making toys just 5 years ago, and what a talent he has. Each toy is made from safe non treated wood, just perfect for the little ones we provide services for every day. Each toy is stamped with his trademark, the year of make and no toy is exactly the same; each is one of a kind. There are trucks, tractors, loaders, cars, ...buses and a host of toys for boys. Not forgetting the girls, he has even made the cutest sewing machine and spinning wheel. We were all so very overwhelmed when Gerry arrived with these beautiful toys for our families. Many have already been distributed, so we can imagine the squeals of delight when they opened their parcels. If you would like to enquire about Gerrys toys, his workshop is always open by appointment and he is available on 0438 030228. Thank you Gerry you have a heart of gold and we are so very grateful for your generous donation to SOS. See more

01.01.2022 Do you have items you'd like to donate but aren't quite sure if it's something we are able to pass onto our families? SIDE NOTE: It's always great to receive photos of your items in your email. It helps the team determine how suitable they are for our families. There may be a slight delay in receiving a response due to high demands, we do really appreciate your patience.

01.01.2022 Only 2 days to go until our big garage sale! We have boxes and boxes of brand new Christmas items that have been kindly donated to us. A lot has been passed on to our families but we still have an incredible amount we need to clear out to make space.
