22.01.2022 Dear Friends, A special Rosh Hashanah message to the community from Rodney Naumburger, President, the Zionist Council of NSW and ZCNSW Board & Staff: "Tonight, as we ready to enter the new Jewish year 5781, the ZCNSW wanted to take this opportunity to wish you, your families and loved ones, Shana Tova uMetukah, a sweet and happy new year!... This past year has been a difficult one for many in our community, faced with the unprecedented and pernicious COVID-19 pandemic. We know these High Holidays will not be as we are normally accustomed to, with traditional Synagogue services and family gatherings. Many of you have been directly affected, and we wanted to say, first and foremost, that we are thinking of you and we deeply care about you! At the same time, in these past days, we have also shared in the most tremendous joy with our brothers and sisters in Israel, who have seen truly historic and inspiring peace accords made with Arab countries of UAE and Bahrain. We pray and yearn for only more such agreements, fostering peace, co-existence and a future of hope for Israel and all the people of the Middle East. The Talmud teaches us kol Yisrael arevim zeh lzeh, that all Jews are responsible for one another, irrespective of where we are, and so we are all bound by the imperative of looking out for one another, especially in these challenging times. Our community is strong, resilient and proud. Proud of our faith, our heritage, our history and our inextricable bond with the Jewish state. We wish you all a sweet and happy Jewish new year. May it be one of health, happiness, prosperity and hope. Rodney Naumburger, President, the ZCNSW Board & Staff."

22.01.2022 "The vote seemed as long as the Jewish exile itself, lasted only 3 minutes." On this day, 1947, the UN voted on the Partition Plan, to divide Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state. 33 in Favour, 13 Against, 10 Abstentions. Australian External Affairs Minister Doc Evatt, who was Chairman of the 'Ad Hoc Committee on Palestine', was instrumental is seeing through the successful vote on partition, where Australia was the first nation to vote in favour. Evatt would late...r became United Nations President and presided over Israel’s admission to the world body in 1949. Jews now experienced what generations before us could only dream: Jewish sovereignty in our ancestral homeland, Israel.

01.01.2022 ZCNSW Press Release - A Generational Change in Leadership! "On 5th August, the Zionist Council of NSW (ZCNSW), held its Annual General Meeting, in which long-serving President Richard Balkin stepped down after 10 years at the helm, with current Vice-President and Treasurer Rodney Naumburger, assuming the Presidency. The meeting, which was held virtually, was attended by Jewish leaders from across Australia, and saw powerful and heartfelt video messages for Balkin, including... from the Australian and Israeli Ambassadors, federal and state politicians, the Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, as well as many friends and supporters, who came to pay tribute to his years of inspiring leadership and dedication to ZCNSW. Naumburger noted that Richard will leave an indelible mark on both the ZCNSW and our community. Richard embodied the very essence of what it means to be Zionist. He led with passion, integrity and an unwavering commitment to Israel, our alliance with Australia and most importantly, to empowering the next generation of Zionist leaders. It is truly an honour to follow in his footsteps, knowing the incredible foundation he has laid for generations to come. In his closing remarks, reflecting on his time as President from 2010-2020, Balkin said his main mission when he joined the ZCNSW was to create a strong Zionist voice for our community, a mission he truly succeeded in, with ZCNSW today being at the forefront of Israel advocacy and championing Zionist values in the community. However, his greatest achievement Balkin says was inculcating a sense of pride in the younger generation of our community, through the prism of the achievements of the State of Israel and our flagship programs, like Yesh!, I-Society and Israel Advocates. In passing the leadership baton to Naumburger, Balkin said he could not think of a more worthy successor, describing Naumburger as extremely capable professionally and remarkably generous in his philanthropy, noting that the ZCNSW is today vibrant, refreshed and full of energy, commitment and purpose. Balkin also praised ZCNSW Executive Director Teneille Murray, as not only supremely capable, but also one of the youngest executive directors of any communal organization in Australia, while describing the appointment of Israel Affairs Director Arsen Ostrovsky as the final piece in my jigsaw puzzle to espouse the Zionist cause in our community. Underscoring the generational change in leadership, Balkin also hailed Vice-Presidents Rebecca Lacey-Ehrlich and Orli Zahava, as two remarkable, highly intelligent women, capable dedicated and who I know will help drive the generational change needed in the years to come. In what was a highly celebratory occasion, Balkin concluded with an emotional message of thanks to the countless friends and supporters over the past decade, but none more so than his wife Naomi and his children, for their sacrifice, encouragement, love and support.
