23.01.2022 In 2019 Lia, a Cairns based Kreator who founded Plant Based Native spent time at our Port Douglas store as an Artist in Residence. In 2020 we have loved seeing her vision for Plant Based Native grow and now her collaborative work with Ngamumu - supporting women and children in the first 1000 days, in far north Queensland. We love following their work and this series with Paperback Arts looks amazing. ... If your community wants to place children as it's priority, please reach out to Ngamumu. Also, we continue to stock her amazing handmade woven earrings and children's plush toys, so if you are keen to support Lia's vision and practice, visit our shop or search Plant Based Native in our online site www.starwin.com.au

23.01.2022 #doingbusinessbetter #youthleadership Our friends at Harbrow Mentoring share our 2020 Vision : Sea Change. They do amazing work in Cairns and far North Queensland across community. Check out some of their highlights from this year below...... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=801925167308458&id=385111285656517&anchor_composer=false

18.01.2022 #darwin We had a special week this week, with a visit from these strong women; Frances, Sandy and Jacinta from Wurrumiyanga. They are in town for the week on their respite care trip with Carers NT. Weaving is how they get mindful and focus on their wellbeing and they love to paint mud mussel shells with traditional Tiwi Art. ... We are deeply grateful they share their talent with us and entrust us to represent their work. This is following a legacy left by wulamaka E. Orsto who started up our Crafternoon series before she passed away. We hope you love these gifts as much as we do. You can drop by and say hi at our Darwin shop from 9 til 2 this Saturday and experience them for yourself. Note our Port Douglas store is also open 9:30 til 3:30pm tomorrow (17/10) too

12.01.2022 Deeply grateful to celebrate NAIDOC Week on Kuku Yalanji country... We celebrated in lots of ways... ~Mossman night markets ~Our pop up display at Peppers Beach Club ... ~ Mossman car rally ~Trip to Mossman Gorge complete with damper ~ learning language via 50words.online Last weekend we also ventured to Cairns where we watched Top End Wedding at the Starry Night cinema and joined in the fun with Harbrow Mentoring running a traditional games comp. And a visit to Bumlba Ja to see Larrakia artist Jenna Lee's stunning work. We are truly blessed to be in tropical north Queensland where the rainforest meets the reef. We acknowledge the traditional owners, past and present, emerging leaders and all of the Indigenous community leaders we work with who are champions for change. This is something we live as part of our 2020 Vision: Sea Change and see NAIDOC Week as a chance to engage even deeper in celebrating the strengths of the world's oldest living civilisation & culture. We hope you enjoyed the week, took the time to connect and learn something new and create change. We will go further, faster, together.

12.01.2022 Sharing the stories of our suppliers is so important to us. We are grateful for our community who help us grow a Made with Kindness Economy

10.01.2022 #careerpathways #youthleadership Good morning, today we would like you to meet the first of the 2020 Tiwi graduates who have come through our career pathways programs in Shikira Henry. Shikira's heritage is from Tiwi (father) and Jawoyn (mother). Her Tiwi dreaming is Yirrikipayi ... For the past few years she has spent her time schooling in Darwin and we supported her to enrol at St John's College. Originally coming to pay for Tiwi Bombers in 2015/16, she excelled from day one. Athletic, with a leap and ability to compete both at ground level and in the air, very few players could match her ability. A student at Tiwi College at the time, indeed she had played at the national Kickstart Carnival even before playing NTFL. She was a dominating influence in the premiership wins to come in her time, but was a humble and fair player who listened to instruction well and was disciplined enough to hold a wall and keep her team mates in position, prepared to also lead the way for others. With Under 18s footy and a a move to Darwin for school she switched to Waratah FC. An injury where she broke her wrist saw her make the choice to stay at school and further her study, rather than travel for the Woomeras tours, in spite of her selection for the national program. She has continued to put her study first and worked hard to graduate year 12, with the support of SJC. A keen participant each year in our ADF work experience program, she has travelled to Melbourne and Adelaide with our programs, and in 2018 she was named captain of the side competiting in the Around the Campfire Cup after receiving MVP honours in prior years, including at the Koori Carnival hosted by Richmond Football Club. This year has seen her switch to play women's in the NTFL at Buffaloes FC and join family who play there. A lover of looking after young children, we hope she looks to pursue a career in community services also. Whatever she does, she will succeed as she has a quiet determination and the aptitude to always do her best and support others to do better too. She absolutely has the talent to be playing AFL at a much higher level and we hope opportunities to showcase her talent present themselves. Congratulations Kira, wishing you all the best in your future career pathways, your success is well earned and your future is bright Thank you to Scott at St John's for reaching out and supplying a graduation photo
