10.01.2022 30 years of Statewide Car Carriers. Warren and I bought and took over Statewide on the 1st of July 1990, where Warren had been manager of the company for 14 years prior. Little did I know what a journey it would take me on... Starting with 4 trucks and trailers, working from Sydney through to Newcastle with the occasional run to Brisbane. We had plenty of work but gradually started to grow only through word of mouth, our honesty and reliability. In October 2000 just after the Sydney Olympics, Warren had a tragic accident being crushed under one of our trailers. He was on life support for a week, but we had to let him go. He passed away peacefully on the 28th of October. I lost my hubby, my best friend and my love, aged 47. Through all the grieving I was confronted with having to pay Work Cover $120K for his death, even though they said it was no fault of his or the company. The banks didn’t want to know me, basically I was a woman in a man’s world. At that point I decided to prove them wrong My son, Mark, had started to work for us in 1991 and had been working alongside Warren up until his death. Mark ceased driving trucks a short time after and came into the office as my Transport Manager. Statewide began to grow more and eventually we had 11 trucks and 3 subbies. We expanded our reach, still doing Sydney to Newcastle as before while additionally servicing regions such as the Hunter and the Eastern seaboard all the way to Brisbane. We also began collecting cars from Dapto. In January 2016, we had a massive fire which burnt down all our sheds, workshop and all stored equipment. Devastation hit again in February, Mark was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He kept so positive and was determined to beat it. In the meantime, he redesigned and had the sheds rebuilt. Refurbished them and bought all the replacement equipment. On the 4th of May he was told he had 2 to 3 weeks to live. He passed away on Mother’s Day morning 2017, aged 46. I can’t tell you what it did to me and our family, I have no words to describe what it means to lose a child. Again, all I had was the instinct to survive and keep my people employed. The work has been growing more and we were doing well, until Covid-19 arrived and all of Australia and the World is suffering. It’s another challenge and I’m sure everyone will get through it. At this point I want to sincerely (and with love) thank my family, my staff and all my clients who have so solidly supported me through these 30 years. The question is why am I still here and trying so hard in my 69th year? The answer is simple, for my husband and son. Statewide has kept my head busy and in a good space through all the tragedy. 10.01.2022 What a great week! We had the privilege of transporting these seven cars from Southwest Automotive at Campelltown to their new home. The truck attracted so much interest going up the highway, it's certainly not something you see everyday! Thanks to Les and the team at Southwest Automotive for giving us the opportunity to move them.
