25.01.2022 A message from our Student Leadership team. The College held its annual Patron's Day last Friday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we celebrated all the events at school. A Year 9 touch football game was held at lunchtime on the College oval, ensuring the boys didn't feel left out during COVID times. They loved the game and being amongst the school community on a beautiful winter day. The Student Leadership team is planning to be involved in other Year Group events, to promote unity, community, and to celebrate the skills the boys have outside of the classroom.

25.01.2022 Creative Art Rooms Creative Boys After school art classes are for the adventurous. Students love using their creative minds and creative hands. 25.01.2022 POSITIVE MASCULINITY This week Year 10 students disrupted stereotypes, strengthened their emotional muscle, and questioned what it means to be a bloke during an invaluable workshop with Tomorrow Man. They demonstrated interiority and gratitude as they explored how to look after themselves, their mates and their families better, while carving out their own version of the Aussie man.... Our community is invited to continue the conversation about reinventing masculinity, and to encourage our boys to feel comfortable sharing and showing their emotions. Visit https://www.tomorrowman.com.au/ and https://www.understandingboys.com.au/the-change-has-begun/ for more.

24.01.2022 Mission complete! Thank you to everyone who supported Jack Berne and his 2020 Fiver For A Farmer campaign today. Thank you to all students who donated to the cause, to the Primary boys for wearing their farmer outfits and for making sure your morning recess was locally bought food, supporting our farmers. Thank you to local Independent Member of Parliament, Zali Steggall for attending lunch and joining in on sharing the message of buying Australian made and owned food products. Our Aussie beef BBQ sausages were donated by Harbord Butchers - thank you, they were delicious.

24.01.2022 Year 10 students and staff are having a great time at camp in the beautiful Myall Lakes area. Well done boys and thanks staff!

24.01.2022 Well done Jack Berne on your Fiver For A Farmer campaign this year. Chatting to Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday, your focus for 2020 is for everyone to support Aussie farmers by buying local Australian owned and manufactured food. Were putting on an Aussie beef bbq lunch fundraiser for you and all the Primary school students tomorrow. Theyll be dressed like farmers and bringing in their Aussie snacks for recess. Mum says your recess snack will be Bega Cheese on Lavosh Crackers made by Kurrajong Kitchen (sounds fancy). Oh and a Pink Lady apple too! #fiverforafarmer #buylocal #supportingourcommunity

23.01.2022 Time to get orientated. We welcomed our Year 5, 2021 students at our Orientation Day last Friday. Morning testing was followed by a music and drama showcase, Science lab demonstration, a BBQ lunch and enjoyable sporting activities. We look forward to having you a part of our Augustinian family next year.

23.01.2022 Today (Saturday) our U13 Division 2B Football team wore purple socks as part of the Play in Purple initiative to support and raise funds for pancreatic cancer. Over the past 3 years football clubs around Australia have supported the campaign and it is now gaining momentum to become a truly national initiative. Not many people know pancreatic cancer claims virtually the same amount of lives as breast cancer, and has a 5-year survival rate of only 10.7%. Despite these shockin...g statistics, pancreatic cancer receives little or no government funding and is on track to be the 3rd biggest cancer killer in 2020. The campaign is a wonderful opportunity to increase club, player and community engagement, while supporting an important national cause with profits being channelled into critical medical research & patient support. Well done to the team and parents for supporting this great initiative! #PlayinPurple See more

22.01.2022 And here's a real birthday! English teacher and Old Boy (Class of 1975) Chris Hardy celebrated his birthday last Thursday, kindly hosted by the English Faculty. Chris has been a popular teacher at the College for over 34 years. During his time he has always had a passionate involvement in drama productions, debating teams and the Mock Trial competition.... Ive had many happy years with St Augustines College and have seen so much teaching and learning growth here, not only in our teaching skills but with our wonderful facilities too. English is a subject that continues to evolve and Saints boys are always so eager and engaged that its a pleasure to come to work every day, said Chris. Chris Hardy first walked through the gates of the College as a Year 4 boy in 1967 aged eight. Once graduated and after several years overseas, he returned as a teacher in 1986 and remains an integral part of the College. We wished him a lovely Happy Birthday on his special day.

22.01.2022 KICKING MASTERCLASS! If you're going to get tips on goal kicking, why not get it from someone who is considered by many to be the Wallabies’ finest ever goal kicker?! Our lucky goal kickers spent 90 minutes with Wallaby great Matt Burke @mattburke710 in our school holiday session this week. Matt worked with all the boys, examining their technique and offering priceless feedback. ... A massive thank you to Matt for his time and effort. We look forward to lots of successful goal kicks in 2021 as the boys practice what they learnt throughout the offseason.

21.01.2022 Welcome to our Augustinian Family The Ordination of Rev Fr Quang Tuyen Pham OSA was held recently at Holy Spirit Parish, St Clair, NSW. Fr Tuyens family is unique in that he has two other brothers who are priests, another was ordained deacon in July this year and his youngest brother has just joined the Augustinians Come and See program in Saigon, Vietnam. God willing, that could be five priests from the one family. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, only 100 guests were permitted to attend. With Fr Tuyens family in Vietnam, they participated along with many of his friends and Augustinian confreres, via live stream. Principal, Jonathan Byrne wrote to Prior Provincial, Fr Peter Jones OSA on behalf of the College and extended our prayers and best wishes to Fr Quang Tuyen Pham OSA on his Ordination to the priesthood.

21.01.2022 During the school holidays, weve moved closer to being a more sustainable school. Weve installed solar panels on the roofs of the Brimson Centre and new Goold Building. Soon well be switching over to a more sustainable way to produce and consume energy. #solarpanels #futurefocused

21.01.2022 This week saw a window of opportunity to acknowledge our sporting codes from the seasons just gone with Award Presentations taking place during lunchtime. With 2020 preventing our usual Presentation Nights taking place, our Teachers In Charge announced the Player of The Year and Spirit of Rugby, Football and Cricket Awards respectively as well as numerous special awards across the three sports. Congratulations to all award winners and all players for their resilience this y...ear, where a number of matches were not able to be played due to the pandemic and those that were played were done so with spectator restrictions and changed playing conditions. The College has a great tradition of the boys bringing in outgrown football boots, jerseys, headgear and equipment that is sent to needy communities internationally and this call has again gone out to check cupboards and garages for any items you may have and wish to donate. Please bring in to the PE Office over the next week or contact our Senior Sportsmaster James Scholtens [email protected] for more details. See more

We shared plenty of ideas about mental health, gender and sexuality, connection to the community and the environment. I look forward to more meetings with everyone.

20.01.2022 Year 10 Drama students performed David Williamson's "The Club" for their final assessment of the year this week. The boys embraced the challenge of staging this iconic Australian play, theatrically exploring the tensions within a 1970's AFL committee boardroom. A huge effort from our budding young actors, well done!

Great teamwork and determination. This team is one to watch!

16.01.2022 Mullet Madness for Mental Health!! As COVID-19 times challenge the resilience of us all, our boys are taught the skills of PERMA (Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishments), so they are better equipped to cope with what is currently at hand. Year 11 students, Jasper and Toby wanted to represent the student voice and support the Mullet for Mental Health campaign. Hundreds of boys lined up at lunchtime for their mullet style cuts. Jasper said I fel...t strongly about the cause, but did wonder if my mates and other students would actually commit to the unusual hairstyles and the $75 entry fee. But in a matter of days, it became very apparent. Were both happy and grateful and look forward to the end tally by September 30. It is such an important message to get out among the boys to look out for and after each other. The response has been enormous, with nearly $31,000 raised, placing St Augustines as the 2nd highest fundraiser in Australia for Mullets for Mental Health. Well done boys! Those who wish to donate please go to https://www.teamblackdog.org.au//St/mulletsformentalhealth When out in public and in school uniform, the boys wear a badge to show they have officially signed up to raise funds for mental health. Thank you to all the Old Boy barbers who gave up their time yesterday to cut the boys hair. Those who wish to gain an 80s style mullet in the month of September can visit Bar x Bar in Manly and 25% of the price will go to the cause. #mulletformentalhealth #studentvoice #resilience See more

Jacks key message this year? buy Australian produce. By checking the labels and getting familiar with which brands support our Aussie farmers, is so important said Jack. 16.01.2022 Over the last week, Year 7 English students took to the classroom stage to bring Shakespeare to life. 15.01.2022 The Saints Community Golf Day and Lunch was held last Tuesday and we were greeted with clearing weather for play on a beautifully prepared Cromer Golf course. There were prizes for a Hole-in-One and Nearest the Pin on the 18th, while the Cromer golf pro provided smashing drives on the 7th tee and a Big Hole made things a bit easier on the 4th green.... Thank you to all players and congratulations to the teams Augusta, Bombers and Year 7 Dads who all finished on the podium in a very close tussle for bragging rights this year. A special THANK YOU to our sponsors who contributed so much to the day and a special thanks to the Northern Beaches Review who provided a $100,000 advertising package to the winner of the Hole-in-One. 15.01.2022 Not reading is a true crime! Year 9 English students are beginning their investigations into crime fiction, detecting why this is one of the most popular genres in the world. Thank you to our talented Library Team for creating such an incredible crime-themed display in our Goold Building library to enthuse our students to read even more!

15.01.2022 Starting today, the College will participate in the National Week of Solidarity. This involves our College Student Representative Council effecting action by focusing on raising awareness of the #NoChildLeftBehind campaign. The action seeks to mobilise the school body to stand in solidarity with children and families seeking asylum at this time. It is an opportunity for students to become passionate about a very pressing issue. The children suffering are the same age as our... students and we encourage them to take a stand and support these children. There are currently around 16,000 children and young people seeking asylum in Australia, and their families have been significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic - economically, socially and emotionally. Many people seeking asylum work in highly precarious, service-oriented sectors, and we have seen huge job losses among this group. Despite this, they remain ineligible for any substantive government support - JobSeeker, JobKeeper and some dont even have access to Medicare. As such there is a huge need in our community, as people are forced into destitution, including being unable to buy food, medicines or pay rent. @JRFAustralia @VinniesNSW #nochildleftbehind

14.01.2022 Patrons Day if a different way. Each year the College celebrates Patrons Day with a morning Mass, followed by our annual Walkathon, with every student and staff member walking along the northern beaches ending at Clontarf for a picnic and games. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we held our special day differently. Still with just as much meaning and joy. This morning we held a Patrons Day Liturgy presented via Zoom which also included wonderful messages and a video from our staff and students. We also connected with our brother Augustinian school, Villanova College in Brisbane, Qld, with some heartfelt and creative messages shared. The special day of celebration also included the boys wearing mufti, a BBQ and ice-creams for lunch, ending with games held on the College oval.

14.01.2022 Marking the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, the College commemorated Remembrance Day via a zoom session to students throughout the campus. Our Student Leaders Joshua, Sam, Flinders and Tom honoured the fallen from all theatres of war. Tom delivered a heartfelt account of Aboriginal ANZACs who fought in WWI, recognising that this is also NAIDOC week. Tom said: The bravery shown by these few should continue to inspire Australians today. This is why we remember. Lest we Forget. Izaak played a resounding Rouse and the Last Post, holding the students’ attention while they observed the minutes' silence.

11.01.2022 College staff member of 21 years, David Anglicas says he is humbled by the recent story posted on MWFAs website. The report outlines Davids long time relationship with the club and his love of soccer since the age of six or seven. David remembers living in the UK and wearing soccer boots made with timber studs. Eventually, the nails holding in the studs would protrude and my father would hammer them back in! he says. In recent years, the MWFA has hosted the annual Helen ...Anglicas Memorial Cup, raising funds for breast cancer research, in memory of Davids much-loved wife Helen. The photo accompanying the story was taken by College photographer Les Bobis at last years Memorial Cup game. 08.01.2022 SIAMO ITALIANI VERI! We are true Italians! Our resilient language students didn't let a cancelled overseas study tour, or a cancelled excursion to Norton St stop them instead, we brought Italy to St Augustine’s last week!... During Italian lessons on Monday, 300+ students celebrated with gelato on a hot day. This was followed up on Thursday with an Italian Film Festival held on College grounds. Year 9 students watched Benvenuti al Sud!, a film exploring the south of Italy, its landscapes, cuisine and traditions. Year 10 students watched 10 giorni senza la mamma, a film about what happens to an Italian household when mum is absent for a length of time. And everyone enjoyed pizzas for lunch in the Italian room of our Language Centre. Bravi ragazzi! Well done boys!

07.01.2022 A message from our Student Leadership team. The College held its annual Patrons Day last Friday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we celebrated all the events at school. A Year 9 touch football game was held at lunchtime on the College oval, ensuring the boys didnt feel left out during COVID times. They loved the game and being amongst the school community on a beautiful winter day. The Student Leadership team is planning to be involved in other Year Group events, to promote unity, community, and to celebrate the skills the boys have outside of the classroom.

07.01.2022 Hip Hip Hooray its Jersey Day! Thank you to all our students for wearing their favourite jersey over the top of their uniforms. September 4 marks Jersey Day, a national incentive to promote awareness of The Organ and Tissue Authority and the Donate Life network. The day was inspired by the story of Nathan Gremmo who was tragically lost in an accident in May 2015. Nathans family chose to give the gift of life to others to honour the legacy of Nathans generous personality. Thank you, boys, for starting the conversation this morning in your Wellbeing lessons, talking about organ donation. Right now, approximately 1400 Australians are waiting for a life-saving transplant. This is an important discussion for anyone to have.

05.01.2022 History of sorts was made on the weekend with the St Augustine’s College First XI making its eagerly awaited entrance into the ISA cricket competition for 2020/21. The side took on St Pius X College at Oxford Falls under grey skies, but play was able to start on time and get the first 50 overs in of the SPX batting innings. Chasing 254 for victory, the drizzle started as soon as the Saints openers faced up and unfortunately only 8 overs were able to be bowled before more heavy rain caused the match to be abandoned. Next week the Firsts travel to Strathfield to take on St Patrick’s while the Second XI takes on St Spyridon College. Good luck, lads!
