23.01.2022 Here are 3 individual photos taken by a representative of SSWPI on the last tour at the church. I have been doing the tours for 21 years and had a dread of one section of the cemetery last tour I said to SSWPI photographer will you take a photo of that section for me this is what appeared. Welcome to the cemetery!!

22.01.2022 This photo of the church was taken after the fire in 1989 which nearly destroyed the church. About three years ago three men attended as everyone was leaving after the tour they told one of the guides they were there when the fire was started. As soon as we were told this fact they left in a big hurry as one of the guides had asked for their contact details for Council.

21.01.2022 Just an update the guides are still as busy as ever and now holding private tours for birthdays as well as our normal tours. This year in April we celebrated 21 years of volunteering at the church and cemetery. Over the years we have met some wonderful people who have joined the tours one such group returned 10 times. My thanks go to the guides and the work they put in on our fortnightly tours and of course to Blacktown City Council for their support over the years. Also to the many family members who have donated to the Guides photos and documents for our collection. We are hoping to have an open day sometime this year to show some of our collection. Thank you all for the continued support.

21.01.2022 The Guides of St. Bartholomews this year celebrate 22 years of holding the tours. We thank those that have attended the tours and those who have returned many times. We would also like to thank the many people who have shared their family stories, photos, documents with us over the years. The two phots show a group on tour and two guides Annette MacKenzie and Peter Jobson. Annette celebrates her ninth year later this year and Peter his second.

19.01.2022 Good morning all as we are commemorating WW1 this year I thought I would post some items I have collected from the families who attend our tours and also invite me to their homes to tell me about their ancestors. This document is what was filled out to give particulars of a person who died during WW1 and whose name is on "The Honour Roll of Australia in the Memorial War Museum" note that originally an incorrect place of birth was given as Parramatta but was soon replaced with Toongabbie. Arthur Henry Willmot was the son of the first Shire President of Blacktown Thomas Willmot. There is a plaque for Arthur on the family grave at Prospect Cemetery.

18.01.2022 Another photo is of a family group among a number given to The Guides of St. Bartholomew's by Bruce Crawford son of the gentleman in the previous photo Robert Crawford..

13.01.2022 I thought I would put up some of the Guides photo, certificate and document collection for those who maybe interested This photo is of one of my favourite buildings in Blacktown "Dayton House" the land was original a grant issued to Lewis Henry Campbell but for reasons unknown he transferred the land to the convict James Bates. This home can be viewed in Roger Place at Prospect and is well worth taking a look at. Courtesy of Tom Geraghty of Blacktown.

11.01.2022 The photos shows an internal view of the church after the destruction caused by the fire in 1989. The photo was taken by the guides in 1994 the year the Ghost Tours started it shows the doorway leading to the vestry on the M4 side of the church. Today 2014 the only flooring left from the ruin is in the two vestrys and the chancery.

03.01.2022 This veteran of the Confederate Navy evaded me for years. I was directed by a Policeman at Merrylands who knew of a gentleman by the name Terry Foenander who was able to fill in some of the details on Joseph Tuft. So here is a little history that has been pieced together and confirmed " Francis Joseph Tuft was born in Liverpool, England and had been aboard the whaler Edward, when it was captured by the CSS Shenandoah on 5 December 1864. Joseph was persuaded to join the Shenan...doah as a carpenter, as commander Waddell, advised him that there was a vacancy in that position on the Confederate cruiser. Tuft remained with the Shenandoah right until she entered the Mersey in November 1865. He later married Caroline McKee at Liverpool in 1871, and remained there until they migrated, with their first three children to New Zealand seven years later. The rest of their children were born in New Zealand, and the whole family finally moved to Australia, where Joseph died in 1919. He is buried in Section 3 of the cemetery along with his wife Caroline. Please let us know if you would like The Guides of St. Bartholomews to continue adding short histories to our page as the cemetery has some wonderful stories buried in the grounds. See more

02.01.2022 I have been working on my archives of people connected to the church and graveyard and came across some photos given to me by Bruce Crawford a couple of years ago and thought I would share. Robert Crawford was born on the 10 June 1827 at "Hill End", Rooty Hill the area today is Doonside he died on the 23 Oct 1906 at the family home "Hill End" his father was Robert Crawford and mother Mary Campbell.

02.01.2022 Some photos of graves in the cemetery the military headstone is that of William Charles Bradley who saw active service during WW2 he died on the 6 June 1942 at Blacktown. Further information on some of the families can be obtained by contacting this page. Ann and Margaret Goodin were among the first Baptisms at the Church held on the 2nd May 1841 with their brother James Goodin. They were also the first burials in 1841 according to a family member both girls died as the result of Scarlett Fever.

01.01.2022 These two photos were given to the Guides for their collection by Jim Merchants of SSWPI. They were taken approximately a month ago on one of the groups paranormal tours of the church and cemetery.

01.01.2022 I thought I would share a thought with you for quite a while now I have been trying to locate where the churches name originated from. Lawson had two son-in-laws Ambrose Hallen who held the appointment of Colonial Architect from 1832 to 1835 and his brother Edward Hallen who was involved in the designing of The Sydney Grammar School. Both men were baptised at St. Bartholomews Church of England, Wednesbury, Stafford, England in the very early 1800s. Edward the younger son wa...s very involved in our St. Bartholomews at Prospect as his signature is on many of the early church documents. So the question arises did one of the brother have something to do with the naming of the church. A man named Henry Robertson who designed our church was contracted to Edward Hallen in Sydney. Research still needs to be carried out to put to rest my question. I have added a photo of the church in Stafford where the brothers were baptised as you will see there is no resemblance to our St. Bartholomews Church. See more
