24.01.2022 This week at Set up for Success we are exploring the TRAJECTORY Schema: how objects or the self move diagonally, vertically or horizontally. This can explain why some babies and young children enjoy dropping, hitting, or throwing objects; or moving themselves up and over, through places...(yes that definitely includes climbing on the couch and jumping on the bed!!) Come along to the Hall tomorrow (Tuesday) and Thursday from 9-10.30am for some fun activities and remember a piece of fruit/vege snack, a water bottle and old clothes for messy play! If youre interested in some more activities at home check out this link below https://www.pinterest.ca/pinderliteracy/schema-trajectory/

15.01.2022 Good morning to our families with young childrenIts Making Music time this week at Setup! Did you know that Music is a Universal language and has the power to connect people of all ages and cultural backgrounds Engaging with music also has many positive impacts for our physical and mental well being. What kind of music do you like to listen to at your house? Does anyone in your family play an instrument or sing? After youve listened to the Storytime, you might like to find out a bit more about different instruments and how they sound. The link below is to a YouTube performance of Peter and the Wolf, its probably too long to watch the whole clip with your younger children, but the first 5-10minutes is fun to listen how each instrument represents a character in the story! https://youtu.be/MfM7Y9Pcdzw

14.01.2022 At Set Up for Success this Term we will explore a range of Schemas. A schema is simply a pattern of repeated behaviour that can be observed in childs play. Knowing about different schemas can help us as adults to understand things like why young children enjoy emptying a basket of clean clothes (that weve just folded neatly) or why a toddler continuously drops food, cutlery, plates etc from their highchair! This week its the Transport Schema- moving objects or self from... one place to another. Join us in the Hall tomorrow (Tuesday) and Thursday 9-10.30am. Bring a water bottle, piece of fruit:vege for snack and wear old clothes ready for messy play!! Below is a YouTube link to a Transport song, and an article if youd like more info on Schemas! https://youtu.be/zWss7p8DjVU https://growingkind.com.au/what-are-play-schemas-and-why-d/
