18.01.2022 Feeling stressed? I’ve got a solution that may help. Imagine you have won the lottery, would this help you become less stressed? The image below is from the Hub...ble Space Telescope. It illustrates the vast number of galaxies and stars in our universe. Astronomers estimate that there are over two trillion galaxies and over 700 sextillion (700 thousand billion billion) stars in our observable universe. Our human minds are not good with large numbers, let’s put this information into perspective. Consider that if our universe is a large coastal beach. Then each galaxy would be a grain of sand on that beach. Every solar system would be a mote of dust on a grain of sand. And every planet would be a molecule of that mote of dust. Incredible? As you view this image and pounder how large the universe is, know that out of all of these planets (molecule of dust, on a gain of sand, on a large beach), you are alive and well on a (maybe the only) planet that can sustain life throughout the universe. Also know that out of 100 billion of people who have lived and died on this lone planet, you are part of the 7 billion that is still alive today. What are the chances of this happening? To be alive you indeed have won the lottery. So, don’t sweat the small stuff, enjoy how lucky you are. This applies to all our students. Don’t stress about exams. It is nothing compared to our precious lives that we have on this planet and universe.

14.01.2022 Burn and Space. How this theory relates to your child and yourself as adults. Consider a graph where the y-axis represents Thinking and the x-axis represents Doing. We can break the graph up into 4 quarters. The top right quadrant represents high doing and high thinking. This is called the Burn quadrant. In this quadrant, we are in the zone, burning the midnight oil and working excessively to meet our deadlines. We are most productive in this quadrant, but it cannot l...ast forever. Burning from both ends will cause us to burn out. The bottom left quadrant is called the Space quadrant. In this quadrant, we are not thinking and not doing. It may seem to be unproductive but that isn’t true. Many great problems are solved while in this quadrant. For example, The Hubble Space Telescope's blurry lens were fixed through ingenuity of a senior engineer while standing in a shower (during a trip to Germany). Successful people alternate between the different quadrants effectively, as each quadrant has their benefits and purposes. Our Year 6 students have worked extremely hard in the past months, as they have been in the Burn quadrant. They should now alternate to the Space quadrant to do nothing and think nothing. This will give them the best chance of success. This principal also applies to NAPLAN students, OC students, HSC students, and adults in the workplace.

10.01.2022 Pillar S - Sleep. Why do we sleep? Why do all animals sleep? Sleep has many functions. One important function is that during sleep, our memories and learning are stored in our brains.... For example, if we take a nap after a rigorous learning session, our memory and learning that were temporarily stored in the hippocampus are transferred to the neocortex where it will remain long term. Hence the lack of sleep can have negative cognitive impacts such as impaired reasoning, problem-solving, and lack of attention to detail. An even more important function of sleep has recently been discovered. Our body is a complicated system and like all systems there are inputs, outputs and waste. The brain is a highly specialised system. It is vulnerable and is physically protected inside the blood barrier. The brain system produces waste, the more food we consumes during the day, the more waste the brain system has to dispose of. When we sleep at night we allow our brain system to clean up the waste and remove a toxic protein called beta-amyloid from brain tissues. Beta-amyloid is renowned for accumulating in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. The garbage collection is performed by the cerebrospinal fluid, which moves through the brain and drain out through the spinal cord. We require 8 hours of sleep per night for the garbage collection to be complete. As we aged we actually require more hours of sleep for this garbage collection to be complete. This is because our brain system is older and has becomes more worn out. If we don't have enough sleep, the excess waste can build up around our brain, causing headaches and tiredness. Over time, this can led to the increases risk of neurological illness such as dementia and brain tumors. When your child refuses to sleep, explain to him or her the reasons for sleeping and why it is extremely important to get the full 8 hours sleep every night. Having the right amount of sleep, and taking exceptional care of our brains, is the first pillar of success. It is one that we must all practice.

05.01.2022 Our Grand Vision: Despite modern thinking, technology has stagnated in the last 20 years. With Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, we are supposed to be more connected but these are gimmicks. We don’t have talking robots, haven’t colonise Mars and don’t have flying cars. In fact, we still rely on the combustion engine and oil. We still spend millions of dollars (and lives) controlling the Middle East oil fields. Majority of the population still sits under the poverty line and ...is caught up in an endless rat race, with little or no chance of leaving a legacy. The only way to break the wheel is through a good education. The only way to jump from the poor to middle class, or middle class to upper class is through a good education. Our goal is to provide great education and propel your child’s education way beyond what the schools are providing. If anyone, poor or wealthy, can put in the hours, grit and determination to grow, learn and be educated with us, they can change their life and future, and lay seeds to their future generations. Our goals are grand and it will take a long time for the fruits of our labour to ripen. But, with every plan, it starts with one step at a time. It starts with one child at a time.

05.01.2022 Stephanie Coaching is now running online LIVE teaching for all our students during the Covid-19 impact. We have improved online educational system and learning programs for all our students. The online programs will be no different to face to face teaching. We continue to maintain quality teaching and learning for our students during this difficult time.

04.01.2022 Imagine yourself stepping out onto the Wimbledon centre stage and playing in the grand final against the world’s best tennis player. If you win, you will be awarded over $3.5M dollars plus sponsorship. If you lose, then you would be a side note and will be quickly forgotten. The following inspirational quote is inscribed above the entrance to Wimbledon’s Centre Court, waiting to greet you before battle. If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposter...s just the same. What is the meaning behind this inspirational quote? Can you see the relationship between this quote and your child’s journey of education.

03.01.2022 When our generation was growing up, our parents never considered to tutor us. They just sent us to the closest local school and hoped that we would get good grades and be accepted into a good University course. They relied solely on our independence and the school system. Helping us with homework? Attending Parents & Teachers Interviews? Packing our school bags? Never! They could barely speak English themselves as the first generation in Australia. We saw the hardship they en...dured to provide the necessity in our lives. How time now has changed. Not only are parents more worried about which high school to enrol their kids in, but it has got to the point where parents are now worried about which PRE-SCHOOL to send their kids because a good pre-school would lead to a good kindergarten, which would lead to a good primary school and so on.....The time and investment the second generation is spending on the millennium generation is unbelievable. We simply want to give the best of the best to our children, at all cost. Thought experiment: Millennium kids have become ‘trophy’ kids. They are modelled and groomed by parents into trophy kids. But what will be the side effect (if any)? How will millennium kids differ from previous generations once they enter the work force? Will they be more independent or dependent? IMO, millennium kids are being spoon fed too often. The long term effect is that they will struggle (initially anyways) in the harsh environment of the 'real' world. TL;DR: As parents, we strive to give our kids the best of the best and try our best to prevent them from failing. To us, this logic might be flawed. Sometimes we SHOULD let our kids fail and we should encourage them to learn from their hardship. It takes many falls to be able to walk. If our society and schools develop a fear of failing, then it will take a lot longer for our kids to learn how to walk and run. As what Stephanie Coaching believes in, A lifelong learner is a lifelong winner.

02.01.2022 We recently had a number of students who have not been honest with their work and honest with themselves. The following article examines our philosophy on this matter and we encourage that you share this article with your children. The journey is more important than the destination. Mother Nature does not have a set plan, nor an end destination. Instead, Mother Nature is a tinker making small subtle changes. She experiments and learns from changes that work, and changes tha...Continue reading
