25.01.2022 Separation anxiety is a very common response as we transition from one environment to another. If children are not yet ready to separate from their parent (moth...ers, generally) because they feel unsafe without them, they will be resistant to change. The child may feel that the new environment is not able to meet their needs in the same way they are met at home. There are many ways that separation anxiety will present in the child, from clinging to being rigid, having fears, exhibiting insecurity, and unstoppable crying. Separation anxiety is an opportunity to recognise the unmet need for safety and security in your child; it is not a problem to be fixed. 19.01.2022 In Melbourne as Stage 3 restrictions return, children have another week of school holidays before returning to remote learning for the start of Term 3. In Regi...onal Victoria, it is business as usual for our children returning to school on Monday. What a confusing time for our little ones! They may be feeling a little apprehensive about the return to school and a little confused that their Melbourne friends have an extra week of holidays. We can help our children feel safe and secure anytime they want by teaching them to connect to their breath. Breathing in...I calm my body Breathing out...I relax They can breathe into the feelings of discomfort or unease in their bodies when they are scared, feel uncertain or begin to panic. We don't need answers as to why they are feeling what they are in this moment and they don’t have to fix anything at all - just let them be in the wonder of YOU.
18.01.2022 A beautiful activity based on our Children’s Wellbeing Cards is to encourage your little ones to see their own power. Encourage them to close their eyes and to... try and imagine the sun shining into their stomach, just above their belly button. Ask them Do you know how great you are? Do you feel your power?. They can also practice seeing their own power and greatness by looking in the mirror. Encourage them to share their beautiful radiance with the world. When they honour the power within themselves, they will not need other people’s praise all the time. Our Children’s Wellbeing Cards will be back in stock soon. If you would love to be added to the waitlist, send us your details to [email protected].
18.01.2022 For those of you wondering about Childosophy- the approach developed by Dr. Maxine Therese. Well worth the time.
17.01.2022 When we do not recognise that children are indicating vital unmet needs through their actions, behaviours, symptoms and obsessions, we overlook important inform...ation. The issues and challenges for children, those things that arise as a matter of growth are not complications, but rather a natural response to the child’s separated self, and thus offer opportunities to distinguish what needs of the child may be unmet. The adult expectation of how children ought to feel and think (based on how we have been taught to feel and think) can now be reconsidered and instead of projecting our feelings and thoughts on children we can gain more respect for the child as a self-directed being. . 12.01.2022 The Foundational Needs Model (FNM), developed by Dr Maxine Therese, is a whole-child needs model that supports human needs from the beginnings. The Foundationa...l Needs closely align with the seven principal Chakras and the themes of each need. Each of the Foundational Needs allows for an interpretation of a physical location in the child’s anatomy, the corresponding thought patterns and psychological aspects, as well as the often-inhibited potentials as they manifest through the child’s behaviours and issues. With the FNM, we can begin to look more impartially at those things that occur in the daily lives of children and help children notice when they have become disconnected from their unified state of being from their soul. When a child has to hide or deny aspects of themselves and how they feel, or believe they have to think about things in ways that please others, it causes incongruence between their feelings and thoughts, and this affects their body and energy system, resulting in the health problems and behavioural issues that are most common in childhood today. The FNM takes us a long way toward the aim of an improved philosophy of the child because it allows us to identify how the child’s unmet needs present in a variety of ways. With this knowledge, we are better equipped to support the child especially when life situations create certain fragmentations to return to a state of balance and wholeness. 12.01.2022 Children are not often afforded the Need to Act, and many adults presume to know what is best for them without giving them an opportunity to act for themselves.... Many adults continue to control and dominate children in order to make children comply. In this way, adults largely enforce their own will over the child’s will. Of course, children need guidance, protection, and help from adults, and when they are very little, a parent needs to make decisions based on what they feel is best for the child, I know this very well, but as children grow (and today it seems to be happening faster than ever before), they need much less of this way of relating and much more space to unfold. Ultimately, children must learn to feel and know what is best for them, according to them. 11.01.2022 In order to transform the limiting patterns and beliefs that are not supportive of our children's highest growth, it is necessary that we learn to hold space fo...r our children. In order to do this, we first must make the space. I know how difficult this can be, because as we manage the many demands we have as parents, teachers, and caregivers of children, we are managing a variety of other significant aspects of life. Making space requires time; more than this, however, it requires an intention to be present and a commitment to attune with your child. The consequence of adults becoming more attentive is recognised as what is broadly termed mindfulness. The mindful approach requires that adults engage in moment-to-moment awareness, hold compassion and unconditional acceptance of the child, as well as maintain emotional awareness and self-regulation of themselves. Being mindful is a big part of the process of deeply connecting with children. Excerpt from 'The Push for a Child Philosophy - What Children Really Need You to Know' by Dr Maxine Therese, Pg 362. 09.01.2022 Visualising, imagining, and pretending are all pivotal to the child’s need to see. Learning, pattern recognition, and focus are all improved by imaginary play. ... Play improves a child’s social and emotional skills, their language skills, as well as their cognitive skills. Teachers are aware of the necessity of play and how it informs learning. Parents know how much their children learn when they are role-playing, dressing-up, or imagining a world beneath the sea. Research on children’s early learning and development highlights the importance of play and supporting children in their play actually enhances and contributes to the child learning, rather than it taking away from it.
