25.01.2022 Want to clean up the clutter on your PC ? Start by removing old or unwanted programs. In Windows 10, goto Start and type "add", click on "Add Or Remove Programs". Scroll down to see the list of programs and apps on your computer. If there are ones you know you no longer want to use, you can select them and 'Uninstall'.

20.01.2022 Rather than just buying a new computer when the old one is slowing down - I can help speed up your PC and also give you easy to follow steps to maintain it.

19.01.2022 Be wary of scammers using social media sites. I've come across cases where they've pretended to be someone I know or am already a 'friend' of try to start conversations with me or post links to dodgy websites. Usually once reported the social media hosts are good at removing those fake profiles. Also, even sponsored ads can lead to scammers websites. I came across one of these in the last week whose website looked almost professional, but became suspicious when I saw advertised prices at 90% off (especially a product I knew was over $1000 retail being advertised for about $30), and some spelling errors on this site. If you see anything like this, I'd suggest reporting it to the ACCC ScamWatch department:

18.01.2022 With Microsoft ceasing support of Windows 7 today, it's a good time to upgrade. I can help with checking your computer can be upgraded, assist with backups and to upgrade to Windows 10.

17.01.2022 I've seen recently a lot of people only rely on an anti-virus program to provide all their computer safety. You really need a firewall program as well and an anti-malware program to boot if you want to be properly secure, or even a full internet security suite. The is especially so if you use your computer for any online transactions or you have any files on your PC that are important. Check out my previous post for some free alternatives:

16.01.2022 Don't want to upgrade to Windows 10 ? If you want to stay on the older Windows, I can help make sure your computer is secure with anti-virus and firewall software, and give you steps to help prevent your PC being hacked or being infected with a virus or malware.

14.01.2022 I usually recommend a full security suite like McAfee or Norton for your internet security and anti-virus needs. But sometimes the free alternatives can be just as good. I recently had a case on a PC that was having pop-up ads appearing. Trend Micro suite and McAfee Livesafe weren't detecting anything. But scans with ZoneAlarm (which found a few) and SuperAntiSpyware (found hundreds) turned up and cleaned lots of Adware tracking cookies.

11.01.2022 I’ve seen more sponsored ad scams on Facebook again today...

10.01.2022 Some further tips to my post on dealing with passwords : Don't rely on devices or programs to remember your passwords for you. They often forget them after a new app version is installed or operating system updated. And even though an email address may be the user name for different accounts (email mailbox, Microsoft account, Apple iTunes account, Samsung account, etc) changing the password for one doesn't change it for the others. If you need to jot them down, perhaps don't write down the exact password but just a hint to what the password is that you will easily understand.

10.01.2022 Beware of fake websites. I've seen cases of people clicking on ads on legitimate websites or social media pages and are then taken to an external website. These sites can have flashing graphics and warning sounds that make you think your computer is infected or you have been hacked. DON'T click on anything other than to close the browser or shut your computer down straight away. If you did click on anything on a fake website like that, only then do you risk your computer being infected or hacked. These fake websites are particularly nasty because they can be very convincing and you may have clicked on what seemed like a legit ad to start with - so beware !
