22.01.2022 I promised fine motor skill play ideas to compliment the book, ‘Roar’ by @katerinakarouli. I set these craft activities up so quickly. One using dried spaghetti and the other using cooked spaghetti left over from last night’s tea. Super easy and great for little fingers. They involve: ... pincer grip practice hand eye coordination bilateral hand movements (using both hands at once) mathematical language (where is the longest part of his mane?) Both activities bring the story to life and enable the children chance to make connections with the real world. This is just one way of relating fine motor skills play to your child’s favourite stories. 13.01.2022 When life is busy, never underestimate the power of the simple things. Fine motor skills play doesn’t have to be elaborate. Here, two of my kids sat building allsorts, using language, imagination, exploring maths concepts but most importantly using lots of fine motor skills along the way. Sometimes life is busy and the thought of putting together an invitation to play is enough to put you off. Look at what you already have instead. ... Have a Play Pack handy for those times when you are ready for some inspiration. www.steppingstonesepc.com.au #finemotorskills #playpacks #exploreplaycreate #buildingblocks #foundationskills #everydaylife

01.01.2022 Did you know that gross motor skills develop first before the fine motor skills? This game took me 2 minutes to set up but kept all 3 of my kids 8yrs, 6yrs and 3yrs all engaged while I cooked dinner. I used a bouncy ball because that’s what I found lurking under the sofa. If you don’t have a ball you could use a rolled up pair of socks. Get the kids involved to stack the cups. This is the fine motor skills part! I used two sizes of cups to add an extra challenge. ... Throwing the ball at the cups is the gross motor skill. There are so many ways to play... *How many can you knock down? Ask, how many more do you need to knock them all down? There were 10 cups, how many less are there now? *Draw letters on the cups, can you knock down the letters in your name? *Add numbers to the cups. If you add all the values on the cups you knocked down, how much do you have altogether? Take one cup away. How many do you have now? Great activity to not only keep the kids occupied but you can encourage keeping scores and therefore writing for a purpose. All meaningful play ideas to get your child school ready. www.steppingstonesepc.com.au #schoolreadiness #timetoplay #finemotorskills #grossmotorskills #learningthroughplay #exploreplaycreate
