19.01.2022 If youve seen this before and not shared it with me, shame on you! Sound Up

19.01.2022 It's only taken about 20 years but I think I've finally found a sound I'm happy with! 1960 Ludwig Hollywood, Aquarian Drumheads modern vintage, Red Cymbals 20" traditional crash, 50s Zildjian ride, avedis ride and Constantinople hats.

19.01.2022 Can’t Lay By James Gadson As a drummer there’s a big difference between playing with an organist and playing with a bass player. With a bass player I’ve got m...ore freedom and most of the time I’m setting the tempo or leading the rhythm. A lot of younger drummers have phenomenal chops and I think that’s wonderful, I don’t have anything against that, cause it’s a different thing than what I do (groove). I guess some guys do sound like the drum machine; they got their drums tuned like the drum machine. Some artists call for that.......I can’t do that because I feel another way. I love to watch them and I practice on that technique but I’m not a technician. It has to do with numbers and has nothing to do with the groove at all. The groove might move a little bit and fluctuate. That’s what I dig. The modern style is more straight (up and down). A lot of these guys can’t lay a pocket. *excerpt of my Facebook Live interview with JG from 2018

18.01.2022 More fun times with Holy Smokes Organ Trio!

17.01.2022 Arguably the most famous drum fill of all time! Transcription by jefeplaysdrums. This camera angle is great because it offers the opportunity to really study ...what Phil is doing here. The flams on the toms are part of what makes the fill sound so big. Also unique to this video are the double-headed toms. Phil Collins was known for playing a left-handed setup with single-headed toms (concert toms). Footage from the documentary on Phil Collins' "Face Value" album from 1981.

16.01.2022 This is how drums SHOULD be played!

15.01.2022 Can't wait for this! Thank you Bryan Macaranas for putting this on.

14.01.2022 Starting to introduce the bass guitar into lessons to get student better at locking in with another instrument. Here's this week's jam!

14.01.2022 The worlds longest drum fill! In case youre wondering, yes, I LOVE my job. This was such a fun video to make, but also somewhat terrifies me. I decided th...at if Im going to do a @officialphilcollins cover I need to sing as well. And then we setup 99 toms around Drumeo HQ and did it all in one take! 10.01.2022 Hey Drummers, do you know who actually played the drums as "ANIMAL" from the Muppets? Please join me in remembering the great Ronnie Verrell who was born on Feb...ruary 21, 1926. He was an English jazz drummer who is famously known for providing the drumming for Animal on the original Muppets TV Show! He also played in two of the UK's most well known big bands, The Ted Heath Orchestra and The Syd Lawrence Orchestra. Verrell also worked extensively in television, providing the drumming for many shows that had live bands on them! Check out Jack Parnell & Ronnie Verrell playing Skin Deep in 1977, Ronnie is the drummer on screen right with the white/silver Premier Drum Kit! For more drum information, photos, videos, educational and fun drumming stuff, stop by The DrumSpot website and follow us! http://dougmeola.com #TheDrumSpot #RonnieVerrell #AnimalMuppet

08.01.2022 Meet student of the month Geri Munnich! I haven't done one of these for ages but I was so inspired by Geri's love of music, drums and her finally taking the plunge to learn! Shes also teaching me a thing or two about Mod culture and the music scene in Brisbane back in the day! S.P: When and why did you start drumming?... G.M: I have wanted to play the drums since I was a small child and on my 60th birthday my husband surprised me with my very own drum kit. After 8 years sitting in storage I finally decided to learn to play them this year in June. S.P: Who are your favourite drummers? G.M: Keith Moon, John Bonham, Phil Collins, Mick Fleetwood, Snowy Fleet... S.P: What styles of music or specific artists do you like? G.M: Anything with a great beat such as The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues, ELO, America and many more... Editor's note: No Elvis, Johnny Cash and Celine Dion...ever!! S.P: What songs do you like/want to play along to? G.M: "Rhiannon", "In the Air Tonight", "She's a Mod", "Evie", "My Sharona" and many more! S.P: What do you like best about playing the drums? G.M: I always thought it would be a fantastic feeling playing the drums but I never thought it would be this good! The emotion and feelings of accomplishment even for little things is beyond words...I LOVE it and I am blessed to have been given the best teacher! S.P: What are some of your drumming goals? G.M: I want to learn to play any song that I love to the best of my ability for the rest of my life and to play 2 songs at my 70th birthday party!

07.01.2022 I always encourage students to actively listen to drum beats in songs and I've started a collection of my own transcriptions of all the beats they find. If a student finds a unique, great sounding drum beat they get it added to the "2020 Beats" list with recognition for discovering it. My hope is that students will really start LISTENING to music as opposed to just "hearing" it and we can all share in our different musical tastes!

07.01.2022 I mostly write out classic drum charts but occasionally throw in some obscure stuff and hope for the best!

06.01.2022 This is always a challenging one. Soloing over my tune Bad Hombres y Mujeres at the London Jazz Festival a couple of years ago when we performed with Migration. #antoniosánchez #antoniosanchezandmigration #londonjazzfestival #music #jazz #drum #drums #drumsolo #oddtimesignatures

04.01.2022 Lucas working hard on the intro to "Fire" by Jimmy Hendrix (Mitch Mitchell on drums) at Resonate Music. Reading and playing in time with the metronome are hard enough let alone muscling it out while being relaxed enough for it to flow! Well done mate!

03.01.2022 Love this guy...so many great insights!
