19.01.2022 Major Peter Checkley was a returned servicemen, one of far too many who's life has been impacted by PTSD. However, Peter was one of the lucky ones and received ...one of the Operation K9 program dogs. Peter became the first person in the country to receive a dog on the Operation K9 program, created by the Returned Services League (RSL-SA) and the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB). Since then Peter and his wife Jenny have worked tirelessly to advocate and fundraise for Operation K9 so that more veterans can have dogs just like Ruby. Ruby changed Peter’s life, and earned herself the title of Hero with a waggy tail. On tour, I saw so many unforgettable things and I lost friends. I was in a really bad place, thinking Jenny would be better off without me. I’ve now opened up to her about everything. When I got Ruby I was able to socialise again. I’m not 100 per cent and I never will be but Ruby helps me get close. She saved my life. In 2018 the three of them raised enough for a 3rd dog, totalling just over $75,000 raised over 3 years, and were set to start on the 4th dog this year. Unfortunately, Peter passed away suddenly on the 27th December. He had one last goal of raising enough for one more dog to be trained, and I want to help him. It would mean the world to him, and other veterans, if you could donate - this is such an important, life-changing and life-giving program for veterans with PTSD so lets help raise dog #4 in Peter's honour. On the page I have a link to a story published in That's Life magazine, and a youtube video from RSB for Operation K9. These guys give so much mentally and physically while on tour, and for so many this sacrifice continues to impact their lives back home - lets do our bit. https://www.gofundme.com/operation-k9-hero-with-a-waggy-tai
