25.01.2022 Wednesday 23 September THE CONCEPTION OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST LUKE 3:5-25 John the Baptist was a man whom Christ said was more significant than a prophet (Matt. 11: 7-11). John’s mission was to pave the way and to testify of the savior of humanity. His testimony would serve as an excellent witness to many of the apostles and followers of John the Baptist that Jesus Christ was we said he was. It is interesting to note that Luke decided to begin his testimony of Christ with a c...Continue reading

25.01.2022 Sunday November 29 Saint Paramonus contested for piety's sake during the reign of Decius, in the year 250. A ruler named Aquilinus, seeking relief from a bodily malady, visited a certain therapeutic hot spring. He brought with him captive Christians from Nicomedia, and commanded them to offer sacrifice in the temple of Isis. When they refused, he had them all slaughtered, to the number of 370. Saint Paramonus, beholding their murder, boldly cried out against such an act of un...Continue reading
24.01.2022 Wednesday 7 October The Holy Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus These bold and holy martyrs of the Christian faith were, at one time, officers at the impartial court, in the reign of Maximian. This impious emperor appreciated them particularly for their bravery, wisdom, and loyalty to his person. But when he was told that his two noble courtiers were Christians, his favour tuned to rage. On the occasion of some pagan feast, the emperor asked Sergius and Bacchus to offer the sacrific...Continue reading

20.01.2022 (-English) Elevation of the Holy Cross... Saint Helen, the mother of Saint Constantine the Great, when she was already advanced in years, undertook, in her great piety, the hardships of a journey to Jerusalem in search of the cross, about the year 325. A temple to Aphrodite had been raised up by the Emperor Hadrian upon Golgotha, to defile and cover with oblivion the place where the saving Passion had been suffered. The venerable Helen had the statue of Aphrodite destroyed, and the earth removed, revealing the Tomb of our Lord, and three crosses. Of these, it was believed that one must be that of our Lord, the other two of the thieves crucified with Him; but Saint Helen was at a loss which one might be the Wood of our salvation. At the inspiration of Saint Macarius, Archbishop of Jerusalem, a lady of Jerusalem, who was already at the point of death from a certain disease, was brought to touch the crosses, and as soon as she came near to the Cross of our Lord, she was made perfectly whole. Consequently, the precious Cross was lifted on high by Archbishop Macarius of Jerusalem; as he stood on the ambo, and when the people beheld it, they cried out, "Lord have mercy." It should be noted that after its discovery, a portion of the venerable Cross was taken to Constantinople as a blessing. The rest was left in Jerusalem in the magnificent church built by Saint Helen, until the year 614. At that time, the Persians plundered Palestine and took the Cross to their own country (see Jan. 22, Saint Anastasius the Persian). Late, in the year 628, Emperor Heraclius set out on a military campaign, retrieved the Cross, and after bringing it to Constantinople, himself escorted it back to Jerusalem, where he restored it to its place. 326 .. . , . , . , . , ; , , . , , . . . , , , , . , , , 14 , , ' " ". , , 628 .. , , .

09.01.2022 True Fasting according to Saint Basil the Great, isn’t aimed towards food only. This unfortunately is a mistake most of us make today. ... We tend to fall into the trap of measuring our fast by how much food we’ve eaten or by what we’ve cut during the period etc. But the Fathers saw a much more deeper meaning to the fasts. They saw the fasting period as a chance to really challenge the soul of the faithful person. Thus posing the true questions of the fast: Did you get angry? Did you curse? Did you think or speak bad about someone? Did you judge them? Did you get into an argument and not rectify ? Did you act selfishly ? All these heavy questions, that make us look into our own ego and flawed being, is what fasting is about. Transfigure on! ********************************** Many materials on fasting and Lent are readily available at both our Victorian and Nsw Book Centre stores ! 06.01.2022 Thursday 1st October The feast-day of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God was established following a vision of Holy Father Andrew during the course of a Vigil in the Church of Vlachernae at Constantinople. 06.01.2022 ( ) Our Church on the 24th September celebrates Panagia Myrtidiotissa, the holy icon of Our Lady onthe island of Kythera that has miraculous pr...operties. Panagia Myrtidiotissa means Our Lady of the Myrtle the the holy icon was found by a shepherd in a myrtle bush.Virgin Maryappeared to the shepherd 40 days after her Dormition and told him to search for the icon and that every time he would look for it, he would find it in the same place. As the shepherd kneeled to pray, he turned around and found it inside the myrtle and took it home. The next day, when the shepherd woke up, the holy icon was missing. He went back to the myrtle and found it there. He took it home and the same thing happened the next day. So the man realized that he should leave the holy icon where he found it, inside the myrtle bush, and that it should not be removed again. A Church was built on that site as a home for the icon. . . 13 . . , . .
05.01.2022 If you labor, day and night, spreading the works of God, this is good. Good fruit will come from your commitment to serve the Will of God and to spread His Div...ine Mercy. But we should also realize that God is able to use us to spread His Mercy until the end of the world. How? Only God knows. But He does desire to use you for this purpose. Others, and perhaps most of us, are called to contribute to the perpetual work of Mercy in various other ways. Be diligent now in your work of spreading the Mercy of God but also be aware that this work must continue on into eternity. Focus on this as your goal and God will use your present labors in unimaginable ways throughout time: Lord, my life is Yours. I give myself to You for the i of spreading Your Mercy now and for eternity. Use me as You will, dear Lord. I offer myself as a willing instrument of Your Mercy in our world. Jesus, I trust in You.
