04.05.2022 After 21 years in Campbell Arcade, Sticky Institute is moving! At the end of April 2022 Campbell Arcade will be closing for two years due to the Metro Tunnel development. Our new home will be Room 14, Level 8 of The Nicholas Building on the corner of Flinders Lane and Swanston Street - so just 200 metres from our current home! Moving is expensive though, and as this is our first ever move we're running a fundraiser over at https://donate.stickyinstitute.com to help cover some... of our costs. We understand that not everyone is in a financial position to donate to us right now, but if you can contribute we’d really appreciate it! We’re hoping to raise $5,000, all donations to Sticky are tax deductible (in Australia) and the funds will go towards things like moving our photocopier and an EFTPOS machine!! In terms of the move, here the dates you will need to know: Saturday 19th March 2022 - Last day of Sticky at Campbell Arcade. Saturday 2nd April 2022 - First day of Sticky at The Nicholas Building. The shop will be closed for those two weeks while we set up the new space. The new space is more than double the size of Shop 10 and has windows (!!) with a view overlooking Flinders Street Station. Please drop in to the last Saturday of Sticky in Campbell Arcade to say goodbye to Shop 10. Long live zines!! Sticky

24.01.2022 This deserves sharing far and wide. Maddy Tucker, a local Brunswick resident with a heart of gold and enough sparkle in her eye to light up a stadium distributes an alternative council reelection brochure. Hilarity and spreading good vibes...check.

23.01.2022 CW: Sexual harassment . . . .... . . . . . Calling out sexist, disrespectful or harassing behaviour takes courage. This is Melis’ story about a when she stepped up, and spoke out against sexually harassing behaviour: I was 18 and at my university gym. Like most gyms, it was dominated by men, a fact which already made me feel highly uncomfortable, self-conscious and on high alert. I was working out when I saw two men filming a young woman as she was working out. They were zooming in on parts of her bodyA few other men around me noticed. I really thought that one of them would intervene but to my absolute rage they just snickered and averted their eyes. I had a 20kg dumbbell in my hand and in a moment of extreme fury, I threw it to the ground and screamed WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!? The weight of the dumbbell’s descent reverberated around the room and everyone’s gaze fixated on me. The look of terror on the two men’s faces is seared into my memory- mouths agape, eyebrows reaching the sky, mumbling incoherent apologies before scurrying away. I ran to the gym worker before they had a chance to leave and told them what I had seen. The worker took their phones, deleted the videos and screamed at them. Unfortunately, the woman left before I could speak to her about it, I hoped she was okay At the end of the day it had to be me, a teenager, who had the courage and moral strength to confront the perpetrators. As fear-inducing as it was, I am so glad I did. I realized in that moment that even a young woman in a male-dominated environment could conjure fear in men’s eyes. From that day on I vowed to never be a bystander. -- If this story raised concerns, contact 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732). 09.01.2022 Our third Queer Lunar New Year zine, 'Year of the Golden Ox’ is now open for submissions. 2020 has been a year of change, challenges, ruptures and the new b...eginning of the Chinese zodiac cycle. In 2021 we will move into the second zodiac sign, the Year of the Golden Ox. If the Year of the Rat was about quick changes and overcoming big hurdles, then the Golden Ox is about building from the ground up. Coming second doesn’t mean you’ve lost. What wisdom does the Ox bear in its horns that the rat overlooks with its nimble feet? As always, we love seeing poetry, short stories, mixed media, photography and visual art in our zine. For the Year of the Golden Ox we especially would love to see stories of connecting with land, stories of personal and collective growth, a skillshare in print format, colouring-in or activity pages, food recipes and your experiences with Lunar New Year gratitudes and rituals. Submissions are now open until 10 January 2021. Who can submit: Queer/LGBTIQ+ Asians who celebrate or have a relationship with the Lunar New Year also known as Tet/ /Seollal/Losar/Shogatsu. We're interested in the different experiences of the Lunar New Year historically celebrated across East and South-East Asia and now widely across the diaspora. We welcome mixed-race folks to submit to our zine because we recognise the history that white Australia continues to erase namely the experience of queer Aboriginal-Chinese folks. You can be any age and submit in any language. All chosen contributors will receive a copy of the zine and our annual Queer Lunar New Year poster. Find out more and fill in our submission form here: https://forms.gle/YQmmHn1G4xHYmQL96
