25.01.2022 A great quote from expectant Mother and Still Aware volunteer Celeste. Arming yourself with the right tools and knowledge will enable an empowered pregnancy and may help you fight through those times of anxiety. What makes you empowered as an expectant Mum?

24.01.2022 What NOT to say to someone whos pregnant... "Good luck - my labour was terrible" "Arent you a little young/old to be having a baby?" "Youre still pregnant?"... "Youre huge!" "Youre tiny! Are you sure theres something in there?" "Youre pregnant again! Didnt you just have a baby?" . . Language is important. What other things do you think people should avoid saying when someone is pregnant? See more

24.01.2022 For Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Week we'd like to share this story which was recently sent in to us which perfectly describes the shattering heartbreak of stillbirth, and how you can also break the stigma that surrounds stillbirth. . . "I remember I physically couldn't move, I couldn't leave the room knowing that we were leaving without her."... "It can be a bit hard when you tell somebody, 'My daughter was stillborn'," she said. That's it. It's the end of conversation, and people feel very uncomfortable. It's OK to ask about our babies; if anybody asks about it, we love it." . . Thank you Hayley and Emily for your voice. . . #PregnancyAndInfantLossAwarenessMonth #PregnancyAndInfantLossAwarenessWeek

23.01.2022 "The Morrison government will commit $7.6 million in next week's federal budget to ensure that all families who experience a stillbirth or the death of a child under 12 months of age receive $3606 in support payments. The change will introduce a single payment rate to parents who were previously only eligible for a bereavement payment if a baby's heart-beat after birth. The rate of the Stillborn Baby Payment was also lower for a second or subsequent stillbirth." . .... For more information on this new update please see the article below. See more

23.01.2022 Evidence-based practice is about basing clinical practice on evidence, rather on habit or tradition. It is intended to be a means of improving the quality of healthcare interventions and establishing a rational basis for clinical decision making. Here at Still Aware the information we provide to clinicians and families is evidence-based. Our information is backed by research, as should all the information you seek from your health care provider. ... Don't be happy with 'because this is the way we have always done it'. 22.01.2022 The world looks on as Chrissie Teigan an John Legend bare their souls with love and grief for their beautiful son Jack. A heartbreak and devastation too many know and understand. The outpouring of support of a community connecting to show that Jack and all little lives matter. Sometimes though, as many of you who might be traveling this road yourself know all too well, people say, do or react in ways that are hurtful and sink the knife in to a deeply open wound of pain and he...artbreak. 22.01.2022 "10 KICKS A DAY IS OKAY RIGHT?" . . FACT: Babies' movements can vary between 4 and over 100 movements AN HOUR! So with this in mind, we should lose the number and understand every pregnancy is unique. Some babies might move 10 times a day and some might move 10 times a minute! ... What you should focus on in #pregnancy is YOUR normal. Don't let others tell you different. Pay attention bub's movements, when they occur, and how often, and if anything changes, contact your care provider immediately. It's never too early to check on your baby, but it can be too late. . . SHARE this with anyone who's pregnant. Tag your partners and family members too so they are aware and can help remind you!

22.01.2022 Do you have pregnancy aches and pains? Perhaps swimming is for you! Being a low impact activity, swimming can be very beneficial in pregnancy by helping ease pains and improve circulation. Have you tried swimming whilst pregnant?

22.01.2022 Today is Bereaved Fathers Day. A day for remembrance, Bereaved Fathers Day provides an opportunity for us all to acknowledge and recognise all the Fathers who have experienced stillbirth. It is well known that Dads may grieve differently to women, often grieving silently whilst at the same time trying to support their partner through the most difficult time of their life. ... Today we at Still Aware acknowledge that you are still a Father. Please, speak about your angels. Tell your friends about them. Say their name today. Please know that you are not alone in your journey of grief. ------------------ YOU ARE STILL A FATHER Share this post to show your support and acknowledgement for all the Fathers who may not have their baby to hold in their arms today. . . #BereavedFathersDay #DadsHurtToo

21.01.2022 Are you newly pregnant? Do you know someone newly pregnant? We've put together this quick list of habits that we think every expectant mother should know right from the start: 1. Start settling to sleep on your side from early on. Side sleeping is proven to reduce the risk of stillbirth, and the earlier you start the habit, the better. 2. Don't compare your baby to others. Every pregnancy is unique - just worry about your bub and no-one else. ... 3. Diet is important. Don't smoke or drink alcohol in your pregnancy, and work on healthy eating choices (fun fact: what you eat in pregnancy can form your bub's taste preferences). 4. You may not be able to feel them yet, but your baby's movements are extremely important. Monitor your baby's STRENGTH of movements, your baby's PATTERN of movements, and your baby's FREQUENCY of movements. Your baby's movements will get steadily stronger and stronger up until your due date. If at any point your baby's movements change out of the regular pattern, get checked out immediately by your care provider. For more information, you can track your entire pregnancy over at stillaware.org. . . Tag your pregnant friends to let them know!

21.01.2022 Many people find stillbirth uncomfortable to talk about. Furthermore, many people may not know how to support a loved one who's lost a child to stillbirth. This is mainly due to the stigma which society places on stillbirth and child loss as a whole, and leaves families who have experienced this unimaginable grief left to suffer in silence. How can we combat this? Through education and awareness. By simply having a conversation, helping people understand how they can support... a loved one, and making people aware that talking about stillbirth isn't something that should be avoided, is the key. Below we've put together a list on how you can better support a loved one who's lost a child to stillbirth. Please read and share - together we can all open up the conversation.

16.01.2022 "I'm trying to de-medicalise death - I'm trying to humanise it. I think most people don't want a 'medical' death - they want a 'human' death." . . It's easy to get lost in statistics, but it's crucial we validate every little life and remember the impact they had on our lives in the short amount of time we had them with us.

16.01.2022 Today is the 1st of October, a day which marks the beginning of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. If you didn't know the story, in 1988 U.S President Ronald Reagan declared October of every year Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in an effort to raise public awareness and increase support for bereaved parents who have suffered a tragic loss. . .... This month is very important to us at Still Aware because our whole charity is based on awareness, and we feel strongly the only way forward is to simply #beaware. We want expectant parents to be aware of the risk factors of preventable stillbirth in pregnancy. . We want bereaved parents who have suffered unimaginable loss to be aware that they are not alone in their grief. . We want society to be aware that 6 babies are stillborn in Australia every day. . We want our friends, colleagues, and family members to be aware that it is okay to speak about our angels with us! . We speak about stillbirth, we say our babies names, we encourage open conversation, and we are fighting to break the stigma around stillbirth which still to this day is very much apparent. So for this Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we invite you to share one of the tiles below and share the names of your angels with us. Not only in remembrance of your special angels, but to show your support to other bereaved parents and to help raise awareness of the tragedy that is preventable stillbirth. Let's keep the conversation going and #BeAware . . #StillAware #BeAware #PregnancyandInfantLossAwarenessMonth

01.01.2022 6 ACTIONS TO GET ACTIVE: . . . 1. Connect daily. ... Your pregnancy is unique. Take a moment. Stop and allow yourself to connect. Take time for yourself and your baby, together. Dont compare your pregnancy with others. Find what is normal for you and your baby. 2. Get to know your babys movement pattern. Does baby move most in the morning or at night? When is your baby usually awake and most active? 3. Play with your baby daily. Does your baby respond to your touch? Does baby move to the sound of music? Does baby respond to your voice? Choose a regular activity to "play" with your baby daily. 4. Check your babys strength. As baby gets bigger in pregnancy, their movements will feel stronger. They should not get weaker or soften. A baby does not run out of room in pregnancy. 5. Settle to sleep on your side. Any time you want to sleep, settle to sleep on your side, either side is fine. If you wake up on your back, simply settle to sleep on your side again. To help you sleep on your side look into maternity pillows for extra support. 6. Check-in. Ask yourself, ask your baby. How are you doing? How is your baby? Does everything feel right"? If anything seems different or you are concerned in any way go in and get checked. Straight away, without delay. Trust your instincts! . . . These daily actions will help expectant parents connect with baby in pregnancy. These daily actions transfer research into action and support a safer pregnancy. These daily actions can help reduce the chance of stillbirth and adverse outcomes in pregnancy. . . Tag an expectant parent today so they can get active in their pregnancy.
