18.01.2022 Large 'cuddle beds' have now arrived at Murdoch's Thomas Furlong ward, and are a first for WA. Cuddle Beds offer patients and loved ones a compassionate approach to end-of-life care, with the opportunity to feel close in hospital. Karan Lane, Nurse Manager in the Oncology Ward pictured on the right with members of our executive team, has been the driving force behind the Cuddle Bed project. When Karan’s own mother passed away seven years ago, she longed for closer connection ...during this time, so when she later discovered the use of larger hospital beds that could fit two or more people, she encouraged this style of care be adopted. "As a caregiver I see it time and time again, where people are trying to get close to each other, and it can be heartbreaking and have a lasting effect for patients’ families. It’s about just being there. without restriction." - Karan Lane, Nurse Manager Well done Karan, and thank you to the St John of God Foundation for your support to purchase the cuddle bed! https://www.sjogfoundation.org.au/your-impact/cuddle-beds

It is important to continue keeping our Hospital caregivers safe, so we can keep you and your loved ones safe. Upon arrival at Murdoch, you will now see posters asking the following questions. Do you have a cough, cold, fever or sore throat?... OR have you travelled through SA, NSW or Victoria in the last 14 days, or are you quarantining? OR have you had any contact with a person who has recently been tested positive to COVID-19? As of yesterday, people who have travelled from South Australia must self-quarantine for 14 days and be tested for COVID-19 on Day 11. If any of this criteria applies to you, please call 0405 198 416 and await a response before entering the Hospital. We appreciate your ongoing support to continue keeping our Hospital caregivers and patients safe. For all other information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia visit www.wa.gov.au/covid19
