25.01.2022 Congratulations to our newest Old Scholars from the Class of 2019!

25.01.2022 Flashback Friday With the current state of the world, we thought our community could do with a good laugh, so today we're flashing back to some Dress Up Days and Book Weeks from the last 5 years when our staff have joined in with the dressing up!

24.01.2022 Mr McKenzie's Philosophy Forums are always popular, and we're sure our Secondary Campus old scholars have many fond memories of them! Next Friday St John's Grammar is holding a 'Festival of Ideas', and our Stage 2 students will be running 3 Philosophy Forums. All are welcome to come along and join in the discussions being held in our newest building, the John Bray Centre for Performing Arts. The Festival will run from 2pm - 6:30pm on Friday 13 September on the Secondary Camp...us. The Festival will offer the opportunity to participate in forums, listen to high profile guest speakers talk about dangerous ideas and science, take part in sensory wellbeing activities, purchase from or participate in a range of student enterprises and witness a whole range of world problems being tackled and solved by our most creative, innovative and courageous student thinkers.

24.01.2022 Flashback Friday Today we flash back 10 years to the 2010 Swimming Carnival. Prince House took home the shield in 2010, but each house displayed great spirit!

23.01.2022 Flashback Friday This week the Secondary Campus Athletics Carnival was held, and once again Gooch were the winners! They have dominated both the swimming and athletics for the last few years, but it hasn't always been that way. Today we flash back to 2015 when it was Prince who took home the shield!

22.01.2022 We are looking forward to catching up with the Class of 2014 at their 5 Year Reunion on Saturday 5 October. Tickets are now available on TryBooking, check the event for more details. We hope to see you there!

21.01.2022 Flashback Friday By request, today we flash back to 2006! In this year, 59 students graduated from Year 12, Prince won the Swimming Carnival, Halstead won the Athletics Carnival, our School Captains were Will Ostler, Kirsty Barnes, Claire Young and Cameron Stewart, and we triumphed at the Choral Eisteddfods.

21.01.2022 Flashback Friday Today we flash back to a few events of 2010, including the Year 12 Retreat, Swimming Carnival and Athletics Carnival. We are excited to announce the date for the Class of 2010's 10 Year Reunion - Saturday 31 October! More information will be released soon, but for now, save the date and keep your eye on this page.

21.01.2022 It was wonderful to see so many of the 2014 graduates at their 5 Year Reunion on Saturday! We hope you enjoyed catching up with each other and touring the Secondary Campus. Don't wait until your 10 Year Reunion to catch up again! Keep an eye on this page and update your details on the School's website to stay up to date with opportunities to stay involved. You can also contact Lucy at [email protected] if you have news to share or would like to become involved in the organisation of old scholar events.

20.01.2022 Our Year 12 Art students and teachers have put in countless hours of work across the year to produce their final SACE assessment pieces, and look forward to showcasing them next week in our Whitechapel Art Gallery. 'Lockdown', the 2020 Year 12 Art Show, will be held on Thursday 29 October from 5:30pm - 7:30pm, and we'd love to see some Old Scholars there!

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Class of 2019 graduate, Hannah Mackenzie, who has received the Flinders University Visual Arts Award at the 2020 SACE Art Show for her work, 'Forever a Memory'. Only 117 Stage 2 Visual Arts students from around South Australia had their work selected for the SACE Art Show, including two more St John's Grammar 2019 graduates, Hamish Fleming and Chloe Laycock. It is an honour to be selected, so to receive an Award is even more impressive! With so many unique and thought-provoking pieces on display, we recommend taking a virtual tour of the 2020 SACE Art Show! To do so, follow this link to the SACE website: https://www.sace.sa.edu.au/events/art-show/2020

19.01.2022 Flashback Friday The Ski Trip has always been a highlight for St John's Grammar students, and a group of current Year 11 and 12 students are counting down the days until they get to experience it! Today we flash back to the 2007 Ski Trip, and we've included a photo of some flip phones being used - all the rage in 2007!

18.01.2022 This will bring back some fond memories for Old Scholars who first started their St John's journey in the Early Learning Centre! A group of Year 12s who first began in the Mussared Building back in 2005, 2006 or 2007 returned for a fun visit today.

18.01.2022 Old Scholars are invited to attend our Year 7 to 11 SALA Festival Exhibition for 2020, held in the Whitechapel Art Gallery on the Secondary Campus throughout August. Feast your eyes upon a collection of visual treats from our students in Years 7 to 11. This tempting menu of artwork covers an array of styles and techniques and showcases a delicious quest for contemporary thought in making and responding to Visual Art. The exhibition will open on Saturday 1 August from 10am 2...pm. Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, exhibition visitors may need to wait outside until there is enough space to enter. No bookings are needed. In addition to the opening on Saturday 1 August, visitors can view the exhibition by appointment throughout August. To book a visit, please email Julie Mullner at [email protected].

18.01.2022 Congratulations to our newest Old Scholars, the Class of 2019, who graduated today! 14.01.2022 We are proud to bring you our most recent edition of InFlight, St John's Grammar School's community magazine. In this edition we have shared the stories of some of our old scholars who are soaring in STEM careers, and we have featured exciting engagement, wedding and birth announcements from old scholars who graduated from 2005 to 2015. Thank you to each of the old scholars who submitted material for this issue! There are also photos from reunions in the second half of 2018, ...and an invitation to join the Old Scholar Association Committee, as we are keen to relaunch at the end of 2019. We'd love you to have a read, and it can be accessed on the School's website. We are now planning for the Semester 2 issue, so if you have an announcement to include or are soaring in a Health related career field, please get in touch with Lucy Shelton, [email protected]. https://www.stjohns.sa.edu.au//InFlight_Web-Size_July-2019

13.01.2022 Flashback Friday Principal Richard Anderson enjoyed a holiday to Europe with his family during the July school holidays, and just by chance they ran into Nettie Edmondson (2009) in Lisbon, Portugal! Nettie was on a three week break from a heavy cycling training program before she embarks back on preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Anderson and Zammit families also met up with Alessandro Ancillotti in Rome. Alessandro was an exchange student at St John's Grammar in 2...018, and was well known for his incredible dance abilities! He is looking forward to studying International Sciences at University in Bologna. Reflecting on his time at St John's, Alessandro said it is the best thing he has done and the experience changed his life. Today we flash back to photos of Nettie and Alessandro at St John's - Nettie in the Girls Football Team in 2008 (front row, second from the left), and Alessandro performing at the Moffatt Talent Show in 2018.

11.01.2022 Flashback Friday The Class of 2019 are getting ready for their final week at St John's Grammar, with next week's packed schedule including House Farewells, Dress Up Day and Valedictory as well as final preparations for exams in November. We are sure all our Old Scholars have fond memories of dressing up and causing mischief on Dress Up Day, and today we are flashing back to 2015, when teachers Paul Travis, Richard Anderson and Andrew Napier also joined in! We hope the Class of 2015 enjoy this flashback to some colourful and creative costumes!

10.01.2022 Congratulations to our newest Old Scholars, the Class of 2020, who graduated today! Daniel (2005), Michael (2008) and Jonathan (2011), gave a farewell address on behalf of staff, and Old Scholar Thomas Voss (2014) provided some words of wisdom to the Year 12s as they enter their next chapter. We wish the Class of 2020 all the best for their future, and welcome them as members of the St John's Grammar Old Scholars' Association!

10.01.2022 Flashback Friday Today we have flashed back to the Elder Hall Concert in 2008. Always a highlight of the year for Junior School students, the 2008 concert featured a lot of students who went on to become musical stars in the Secondary Campus! Who can you spot from the Class of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017?

08.01.2022 Flashback Friday Following on from our welcome to the newest members of the Old Scholars' Association, today we flashback to our first Valedictory Day in 2002, when thirty St John's Grammar Year 12 students became the first 'Graduating Class'. We are pleased to report that the banner used in 2002 has stood the test of time and was used today!

08.01.2022 Flashback Friday On the eve of the 2019 Adelaide Christmas Pageant, today we flash back to 2007, when a group of Year 8 students won the 'Design-a-Float' Competition with their 'Cupcake Christmas' design. This was such an exciting and memorable experience for not only the students involved, but the whole St John's Grammar community - to have a float designed by St John's students featured in such a significant South Australian event. ... The students were lucky enough to visit the Stardust Castle to view the finished float and other floats and costumes featured that year.

08.01.2022 Flashback Friday As Term 3 comes to a close, 125 Secondary Campus students are currently preparing for their final performance in the 'Back to the 80s' Cabaret at Norwood Concert Hall tonight. Today we flash back 10 years to the 2009 'Ethel & Eric' Cabaret, held on our Secondary Campus, and 8 years to the 2011 'Legends of Jazz' Cabaret, held at Nexus Arts.

08.01.2022 Flashback Friday Since 2011, Generations in Jazz has been a highlight of the year for St John's Grammar musicians. Students have loved travelling to Mt Gambier for a weekend of celebrating music, and we have taken home many awards over the years too! Seeing as this year's event had to be cancelled, today we are flashing back to each of the GIJ weekends our old scholars have attended, from 2011 to 2019. So many of the old scholars featured in these photos have gone on to work in the performing arts industry and a number of old scholars now attend GIJ as teachers, accompanists and special guests. We hope you enjoy this flash back to your GIJ student days!

07.01.2022 Congratulations to old Scholar Maiah Stewardson (2016), who is making her State Theatre Company debut in Arthur Miller's 'A View from the Bridge'. Tickets are available now for performances from 12 July - 3 August.

06.01.2022 Our next issue of InFlight is just about to be printed as well as published on the School’s website, and one of our ‘Where Are They Now’ articles features Lottie Dickson, Class of 2014, who is now working as a paramedic in Victoria. With many Old Scholars and their families living in VIC, we thought this message from Lottie would be good to share! Well done Lottie Dickson, St John’s is proud of you for everything you have achieved since graduating and we are thinking of you and all of our interstate Old Scholars during this time. Stay safe!

02.01.2022 Thank you to the Old Scholars who have already sent in announcements to feature in the next issue of InFlight. 01.01.2022 Elise Clements (Class of 2017) has been selected as a state finalist for Miss Universe Australia, and we are keen to support her as she raises funds and awareness for ToyBox International, a charity dedicated to supporting Australias sick and disadvantaged children. Elise is holding a charity art exhibition, 'heART', in the St John's Grammar Whitechapel Art Gallery on Friday 21 February from 5:30pm - 9:00pm. Local South Australian artists have generously donated their time ...and skills to create unique 10 x 10-inch paintings, specifically for this exhibition. The paintings will be sold via silent auction, with all proceeds going to support Toybox. You can also contribute through a raffle and bake sale, or by making a donation. We think it sounds like a fantastic event - a chance to pick up a one-off piece of art, support a charity and support the hard work of a St John's Grammar old scholar! Please view the Facebook event to find out more about the auction and how you can contribute: https://www.facebook.com/events/807781313071321/
