25.01.2022 At 11 am on 11 November 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. Today we remember those who dedicated their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our great nation in the First World World. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

21.01.2022 You are now more likely to die from sudden cardiac arrest in Victoria than you were in February. Why? Survival from cardiac arrest has halved during the COVID-19 pandemic, down to just 6.1% survival from an average of 12% survival rate. This is because longer ambulance response times from stringent PPE protocols are delaying defibrillation by paramedics by around 2 minutes. Just a couple of minutes doesn’t seem like much, but when your brain is starved of oxygen, every minut...e matters. To increase survival rates, early CPR and defibrillation within the first 5 minutes is an absolute MUST. For every minute that passes, the chance of survival decreases by 10%. So how do we help? Get trained in CPR and know where your nearest defibrillator is, so collectively we CAN increase the survival rate. This month is #Shocktober a month to raise awareness of defibrillators and create actions that save lives. Here are 3 actions you can take today that will make a difference: 1. Learn or update your CPR skills for your loved ones - a course takes as little as an hour and can now be done 100% online (link Virtual CPR) 2. Find your closest defibrillator to home or work here: https://registermyaed.ambulance.vic.gov.au/ 3. If you are responsible for defibrillator placement at your workplace or community group, make sure its accessible by the public at all hours
20.01.2022 This is Lesley - one of the 1,300 people volunteers have transported to get tested for COVID-19. Lesley has used the service twice this year and has appreciated the level of care and compassion each driver has shown. Each time I have been picked up, the driver has collected me from my door and walked me to the car. I’ve had some lovely chats with the drivers, they made me feel at ease and it was really nice just to talk to someone - Lesley, COVID-19 Testing Transport Passenger. To date, over 20,000km has been travelled throughout Victoria to safely drive vulnerable people to get tested for COVID-19. Thank you to the volunteers who continue to put their hand up to provide this critical service.

05.01.2022 Ian Muir would not be alive today without the efforts of gym owner and first responder Daniel Tinitali. The 68-year-old Breakwater grandfather was completing a warm-down walk after a run when he collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest in late November 2019. When he suddenly stumbled outside Breakwater Athletics, Daniel's First Aid Training kicked into gear as he performed vital CPR to help save Ian's life. Last week we gifted Breakwater Athletics with a defibrillator, to ensur...e if an incident were to happen again, they would be fully prepared. At St John, we have a goal to see 50% of those in sudden cardiac arrest receive defibrillation from a bystander like Daniel. Gifting defibs to communities in need is one way we're working towards bringing this number up from where it sits now at 1%. We have no government funding to reach this goal, so rely on those who purchase from or donate to us to do good work in the community.
