24.01.2022 Last week at JHEEC the children had the opportunity to pick the spinach from our preschool garden that they had planted. 18.01.2022 Over the last week both SAEEC and SJPS had a visit from the lovely Chay from Impact Environmental Education. The program is funded and supported by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. Chay showed us the red bin, yellow recycling bin and green compost bin. The children played a sand litter tray sorting game working out for themselves which bin each waste item belongs in. They also pretended they were a garbage truck and a conveyer belt at the recycling factory sorting, categorising and comparing the waste materials. We are getting clever at being sustainable and caring for our world!

16.01.2022 WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!! During week 3 and 4 our school is putting our 'Being Like Jesus' value into action by acknowledging that in Port Macquarie there are peop...le less fortunate than ourselves. Mary MacKillop taught us to never seed a need without doing something about it. As a school community we will be collecting cans/ non perishable food for the Soup Kitchen, which is run by Sr Marjorie. Sr Marjorie provides warm food for the homeless and those people who cant afford a decent meal. We ask you to support us by sending in your non-perishable items to your childs classroom teacher before Friday, 14th August. We thank you for your support with this initiative!

15.01.2022 Last month the children in the Orange Room at SJPSLDC participated in the Aussie backyard Bird count. The children spent 20 minutes each day counting and taking note of the birds that visited our playground. This information helps BirdLife Australia develop an understanding of local birds. It was also a great opportunity for us to connect with Country and get to know the wildlife right in our own backyard. The children worked in small groups, ready with a clip board to record their findings. Our tally was submitted to BirdLife Australia and included Australian Magpies, Magpie Larks, Torresian Crows, Common Myna’s and Crested Pigeons.

05.01.2022 Story Time with thanks to Port Macquarie Hastings Library Service once again!

05.01.2022 On Friday, St Josephs Preschool and Long Day Care Centre received a special delivery ... a new wooden boat for our outdoor environment! The boat was very kindly made by the Hastings Woodworkers Guild, by George and his team. Fostering a partnership with the local community forms part of our Centre Philosophy. The children were very excited to see the boat being carried in by George and Howard, and were all very eager to have a turn. The boat will be a fantastic addition to the outdoor environment and is a great reflection of our coastal lifestyle. The boat will provide endless hours of fun for many years to come!
