20.01.2022 2020 RECAP: IDENTITY Despite restrictions on gatherings for most of the year, the College still managed to connect as a community through our shared faith. In April, the College joined with the rest of the country to mark Anzac Day with the Light up the Dawn initiative. And of course, we managed to celebrate our Commencement Mass and Senior Investiture at the start of the year, and our Senior Valedictory at the end. #nudgee2020recap : Brody Grogan Photography

15.01.2022 We were thrilled to have our highest-achieving ATAR students, subject duces and College Dux of 2020, Declan Cabot, back to receive their academic awards. Declan gave a touching and inspirational speech about overcoming the doubt of others and, while not being the most naturally gifted student, he was certainly the most driven as he went on to Dux six subjects. Declan is going onto study a Bachelor of Medicine at Griffith University. As Principal Mr Peter Fullagar mentioned ...during assembly, our 2020 graduates did exceptionally well in the year of a pandemic and the new QTAC system to achieve the second highest set of results from a Senior Class at the College. 14.01.2022 Yesterday we were shocked to receive the news that Ms Bridie O’Dea had passed away. Bridie had courageously battled cancer for the past two years. Sadly, her health took a dramatic turn for the worst over the weekend and she passed away suddenly at the Royal Brisbane Hospital on Wednesday 11 November. Bridie was an inspiring and much loved Maths teacher. She was a great friend and colleague to many on the staff. Bridie worked at Nudgee College since 2006. Beyond her Maths tea...ching, she was an evening tutor in Boarding as well as a tutor in the Indigenous Education program. She was a member of Ross House and also served as the Hodda Assistant Head of Boarding House. In October 2015, she was promoted to the position of Director of Administration on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This is an important role which manages day-to-day class operations, school and exam timetables, as well as teacher allocations. It is a vital role in the effective operation of a large school such as ours. Bridie performed these difficult duties with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail. And always with a gentle smile. Bridie’s family reside in Victoria, which has added complexity to this very sad occurrence. Please keep Bridie, her family and her dear friends on staff in your prayers. May she rest in peace. 14.01.2022 ‘We were wondering what your reaction would be if we asked you to go to Nudgee College as Headmaster next year?’ Somewhat startled, I replied, ‘Len, you've got to be joking! No way! I couldn't do that!’ And that wasn't me being humble or modest - that's what I honestly believed. ‘Len, this is far bigger than anything I've ever done before. If I mess things up at Nudgee College, the whole world will know! And there's an awful lot of people who will care!’ ... A knowing laugh bounced back down the telephone line. ‘You're not going to stuff things up at Nudgee, Vince.’ I said yes and what was to follow was the most rewarding eight years of my career. As Headmaster from 1980 to 1988, Br Vince Connors is known as a ‘Man of Change’ in Nudgee College’s history. Commencing his teaching vocation in 1957, he worked in six Christian Brother schools all over Queensland before coming to Nudgee College. As nervous as he was, Br Vince had a vision of excellence for College and the change that needed to happen to see that vision through. Constructing the McKennariey Swimming Pool, new tennis courts, floodlighting for Wilkes Oval and an extension to Tierney Hall, just to name a few of the projects Br Vince undertook while Headmaster. The ‘Man of Change’ was also a man of impact as his ambitious and generous nature had a great effect on generations to come.
