25.01.2022 Hi everyone, Well, we survived the sleep out, although apparently the back of the car is more uncomfortable to sleep in than you may think...!! As the 31st October fast approaches this is a great opportunity to think about how we approach Halloween. It may be that we have different opinions about how our family engages with this event, but it is a good opportunity to think through these issues. It is a natural way to talk about the supernatural and a great chance to point p...eople to the God of light, where we do not need to be afraid. Have a look at these resources and see what you think. God bless, Laura and Asa https://mailchi.mp/brf/halloween?e=241c46b4cb

22.01.2022 Hi everyone, I came across an organisation called Truth be Told this week and it reminded me of the power of story which we value in our Godly Play at St Lucy's. Truth be Told aims to use the power of stories to bring together those in care homes and young children. What a fab idea :)... There has been a lot in the media about the benefits of children mixing with people in care homes. God meant for us to look out for the lonely, to be His hands, feet, ears and mouth.... What an encouragement to see God's stories being used to bring different generations closer together and no doubt to God as well. Have a blessed week, Laura and Asa truthbetold.org.uk

20.01.2022 Hi everyone, We are hoping to begin meeting again outdoors as a church. Although this isn't ideal due to the outdoor temperatures dropping, we hope people will be keen to meet up again and embrace the weather with thick socks!! Please see advert below and let us know if you are coming, we would love to see you all again :)... God bless, Laura and Asa

20.01.2022 Hi everyone, One of our homeschooling aids has been using a "Word for today" flipchart for the kids (and adults!) to learn new words...from voracious to putrid our vocabulary has been expanding! J. John (a gifted communicator in the church) has been doing a similar "One minute Word for today". It's a really simple and short way to think about life, faith and the world we live in.... If you have literally ONE MINUTE why not see what he has to say... God bless, Laura and Asa https://www.youtube.com/watch

17.01.2022 Hi everyone, Hope you guys are well. We are slowly trying to increase our makaton signs and have (mostly) mastered the Lord's prayer. Yesterday we were watching Family at 4 (Worship for everyone) and it was an episode with Graham Kendrick sharing a video of the classic Christian song SHINE JESUS SHINE. Becky Drake added in makaton signs for it and there was lots of the signs we use in the Lord's prayer, so I thought it would be another great video to share, so see if you ...can master this one too.... God bless, Laura and Asa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgUdF8UJsrQ

15.01.2022 Hi everyone, One of the challenges for charities through this pandemic is that lots of their fundraising events have been cancelled and so they have much less income than they were expecting. Charities are having to adjust how they do certain events, for example homeless charities doing their BIG SLEEP OUTS in individual's gardens. My Dad is a trustee for a homeless charity in Reading and has persuaded us all to join him in the Big Sleep out. God is especially close to th...ose on the "fringe" and so we think it is important that we contribute what we can to help these guys rebuild their lives. Simone has decided she is going to try and sleep out in our car with Asa (which is a common place for the "hidden" homeless to rest at night). Abel, my Dad and I are going to try and catch 40 winks in the back garden.... Please pray that the weather is better than this weekend!! If you would like to sponsor us please get in touch and I will point you in the right direction. God bless, Laura https://launchpadreading.org.uk/get-involv//big-sleep-out/

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, I was blessed enough to have a few days away this week with my Dad sailing in his dinghy on the Suffolk coast (thanks Asa for coping with the kids on your own!). One night as the sun was setting some horses trotted along the bank near our boat. It was stunning. Spending a few days in the great outdoors I was reminded of how much we can worship God when we're outside. It made me think that quite often when we're indoors we're looking at what man has made, whe...reas outdoors we can marvel at what God has made. I hope at some point over the summer you are able to enjoy God's beautiful creation, why not say a simple "thanks" to Him next time you do. God bless, Laura

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, I think it's incredible how God is using people to bring the Bible to life in different ways. Some of us find it easy simply reading the Bible as a book, but others of us may struggle. The important thing is that we try and access God's word regularly to help us grow in our relationship with Him. The Bible Project is doing an excellent job at bringing alive the books of the bible (and much more). Why not have a look at the book of Mark below, or explore more o...f their videos on the bibleproject.com God bless, Laura and Asa https://bibleproject.com/explore/mark/

13.01.2022 Hi everyone, As large events across the country have had to cancel this year due to the pandemic there are a number of Christian festivals that are going on-line this summer. New Wine is a large Christian festival that we have been to a few times. It is a great place to meet other Christians, listen to some great teachers and for the kids to have a blast at their groups.... This year the festival will be online from 30th July...why don't you have a look and see what great resources you can enjoy for free this year? God bless Laura and Asa https://www.new-wine.org/

11.01.2022 Hi everyone, I don't know about you, but the little snow flurry we had this week has made me feel a bit more Christmassy! I hope you have been getting creative in making nativity scenes at home. Rosie sent me a friend's nativity scene- made entirely out of pork products- one to keep away from our canine friends!... If you want to do a Covid-safe Christmas activity this weekend Fullbridge church have a Nativity trail in Maldon- see below. Missing you all, hoping it won't be too long before we can meet together again... God bless, Laura and Asa

11.01.2022 Hi everyone, Hope your summer has been a blessing, whatever it may have included. As autumn seems to be on the way it must be the sign that it is the start of school soon. For many children this may be a particularly hard transition back to school after lockdown. Care for the Family have produced some helpful advice to start the conversation with your children https://www.careforthefamily.org.uk//managing-back-to-scho... Rest assured that we will be praying for you all, especially that everyone young and old may know that God is with them, no matter what they are facing. God bless, Laura and Asa

11.01.2022 Hi everyone, So the clocks have changed and it feels like the days are so much shorter than they were. I imagine all of us can relate to some fear of the darkness. It is pretty common for children (and many adults) to worry more at night time. We are experiencing this issue in our house at the moment and found this lovely book: Comfort in the Darkness by Rachel Turner. What I love about this book is that it looks at how God created the night and that He is in it. The book... challenges why we worry about the darkness and looks at how many great stories in the Bible occur at night. We need not worry about the night because God IS WITH US, as psalm 121 tells us "He never slumbers or sleeps". God bless, Laura and Asa https://www.brfonline.org.uk//comfort-in-the-darkness-help

06.01.2022 Hi everyone, As Christmas approaches in this unprecedented year it is easy to mourn all the things we have lost during the pandemic. Financial problems have hit many of us and more people are turning to foodbanks for help. If you would to read a good news story please have a look at this on the BBC website- a very troubled man, suffering from Mental Health problems and drug addiction turns his life around because of God utterly transforming him. He now runs a big foodbank i...n Burnley and share God's love with those who especially need it. Have a blessed Christmas, Laura and Asa https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-55273677

05.01.2022 Hi everyone, So, it's Remembrance Sunday and with restrictions as they are we need to be creative in how we mark this day. The nation has been encouraged to stand at their doorstep in silence for 2 minutes at 11am as a collective time of remembering the sacrifices made by our armed forces. There are also other ideas of how we can help our families engage with this important event. Messy Church have created a resource pack, so why not try playing Kim's game (to help remember...ing), create a pinwheel poppy or wreath or do some bubble prayers...find the resources on this link: https://www.messychurch.org.uk//Messy%20Remembrance%20at%2 God bless, Laura

05.01.2022 Hi everyone, Has anyone else been a bit shocked at how quickly we seemed to have gone from summer to autumn?! I always notice the change in seasons when Maddie, our dog comes in from the garden in the morning and her paws are covered in dew... This time of year always feels like there is "change" in the air, but perhaps more so this year with what has gone before. Isn't it great to remember that even though our world seems to be changing God doesn't change, He is the same y...esterday, today and forever (Hebrews13:8). Attached is a simple idea of making an autumnal tree with finger prints covered in lovely autumnal colours if you fancy being creative. God bless, Laura and Asa

04.01.2022 Hi everyone, I was reading Christianity magazine this week and was encouraged by a piece called "Accessible Church". It explained how the pandemic has encouraged some churches to include people in society who otherwise can't get to church buildings through their online services. Although we don't currently have the resources to do online services well there are plenty of people who do, so why not see what these groups have to offer to help you connect with God when we cannot... yet meet in person together. God bless, Laura and Asa https://www.facebook.com/disabilityandjesus/

03.01.2022 Hi everyone, As we come to the end of the second lockdown life is still pretty uncertain. As you may know we were planning an outdoor St. Lucy's service in December, however it is with great sadness we feel that we need to cancel this event. Although church worship is allowed to happen the guidelines state that there should be "no mingling" between households. We cannot see a way for us all to meet and not "mingle" - it's part of what makes St. Lucy's what it is. We're so...rry and will let you know if we can plan anything else in the future. As a challenge for us all to try and get in the "festive spirit" and keep God at the heart of Christmas how about making your own nativity scene for your window? The rainbows in the window were a great success earlier in the year- how about we now have lots of nativity scenes in their place. I am sure you can be creative- lego, paper mache, play dough, or paper and card. See what you can make and please send us some pics... Here is an idea if you need inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jLZ4u15GuI God bless, Laura and Asa

01.01.2022 Hi everyone, One of the things that a lot of people have been sad about in this pandemic is the fact that we haven't been able to sing with other people outside of our household. Christmas is a time when collective carol singing is a popular tradition for those who go to church and those who don't. Our friends at Fullbridge Church have come up with a great idea to allow some carol singing this year- a DRIVE-IN CAROL SERVICE at the prom. Please book ahead if you would like t...o go, I am sure it will be a great time to come together in a safe way to remember Jesus coming to be with us this Christmas-time. God bless, Laura and Asa
