12.01.2022 *EVENT POSTPONED* Due to the bad weatherexpected this coming Sunday, *25 October*, a tough decision has been made to cancel the renovations celebrations at Saint Mary and Saint Joseph’s Church this weekend. The good news is that we will postpone this excitingevent and advise of the new date in the coming week. ... Apologies for any inconvenience caused and can’t wait to see you all soon

11.01.2022 Over the weekend, we celebrated the recent renovations at Saint Mary and Saint Joseph’s Church that were only possible by the Grace of God and the intercessions and blessings of Saint Mary and Saint Joseph. This amazing event was a celebration of love and community. From the young to the old - from bricklaying, welding, digging, painting and numerous tip runs , to planting , landscaping, cleaning, cooking, decorations and everything in between - everyone work...ing hand-in-hand with their skill set or having a go in learning a new one. This display of love and community spirit is none other than the works of the Holy Spirit And we are reminded of the community spirit which started the church here in 1986, and very much continues to this day. Queensland now boasts 7 churches, 1 monastery and 1 nunnery. May God continue to bless and grow His church in this beautiful sunshine state of ours. But let us always be reminded of where it all started - our humble beginnings - at Saint Mary and Saint Joseph’s Church. May our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ reward everyone abundantly for the love and care you have shown in looking after His House, here in Coopers Plains. How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven! .... Genesis 28:17 Shoutout to Ben Abdou for the stunning photos

10.01.2022 The Glorious Feast of the Cross As we celebrate the Glorious Feast of the Cross we remember that we were not, Redeemed with corruptible things like silver and ...gold, says St. Peter, but with the precious blood of Christ as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19). It is with love, devotion, reverence and thanksgiving we do the sign of the Cross daily, expressing our deep love, gratitude and honour to the crucified Christ who sacrificed His precious blood for my salvation. In living the words of the Apostle St. Paul, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who lives but Christ lives in me. (Galatians 2:20). The early Church Fathers contemplated on the power of the sign of the Cross as follows: 1. Tertullian (160-225) In all our travels and journeys, in our going out and coming in, when we put on our clothes or take them off, when we wake up or go to bed, in our sitting down and rising up, at the table and in all our works, we cross ourselves with the sign of the Cross. 2. Origen (185-254) The letter ‘T’ looks like the Cross and the ‘Key of life’ used by the ancient Egyptians, the same mark which the Christians make on their foreheads both before prayers and reading the Holy Books. 3. St. Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386) We should not be ashamed to confess Christ crucified and make the sign of the Cross courageously with our fingers as a seal on our foreheads and on everything, on the bread we eat and the cup of water we drink, when we go out and come in, wake up or sleep, on our way and at home. 4. St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) We know the members of Christ’s body by the sign of the Cross. For this reason, the Lord Himself confirms the power of the Cross on our foreheads that the sign which was previously a sign of shame became now for pride. 5. St. Athanasius the Apostolic (295-373) By the Cross man can drive away all the deception of the demons, and he who wants to experience that practically let him/her come and see how the work of Satan and his false divination and the wonders of magic are destroyed by just making the sign of the Cross and how the demons flee away. 6. St. Cyprian of Carthage (195-259) Encouraged the martyrs to endure torture saying, ‘Make your faces be sanctified by the Cross and let the sign of God be kept prevailing.’ 7. St. Ambrose of Milan (340-397) We make the sign of the Cross on our foreheads to declare Christ openly, and make it on our hearts to reveal that we love Him, and make it on our arms to consecrate our work for Him. 8. St. John Chrysostom (347-407) The sign of the Cross which was previously frightening to all men, now everyone wants to own a Cross and it is found everywhere, among governors and people, men and women, married and unmarried. People cannot stop making it during every honourable matter; they carry it inscribed on their foreheads as if it were a flag of victory. He also said, The face that is sanctified with the mark of God does not bow down to the devil but keeps itself to the crown of the Lord. From the days of our forefathers until present, this great holy sign abolished the power of poison and healed from the poisonous bites of the beasts. It is a medicine for human shortcomings, anger and lusts. The sign of the Cross gives us protection, strength and victory as it appeared to Emperor Constantine in battle and he heard a voice from heaven saying, By this sign you prevail and it became a turning point in history, confirmed by what is written in Revelation 12:11, And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb. During the Feast of the Cross the Church chants the following Doxology: Hail to the Cross, the Sign of Triumph, that is given to Christians for strength. Hail to the Cross, the Tree in the Paradise, that its perfumed branches give life to everybody. Hail to the Cross, the Sign of Salvation, that Constantine saw shining in the heavens. Hail to the Cross, the Weapon of Victory, the Throne of the King. Wishing you a blessed and joyous Feast of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ who said to us, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his Cross and follow Me. (Matthew 16:24). And he who does not take his Cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. (Matthew 10:38).

06.01.2022 On this day the church celebrates the appearance of the Honorable Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was revealed by the lover of God, Queen Helen, mother of Emperor Constantine, from under the pile of Golgotha, after she ordered its removal. As to the reason for how this great pile of dirt came into being, it was thus: the Jewish leaders when they saw all the signs and wonders which were made manifest from the sepulchre of the Saviour, such as raising the dead and healing ...the sick, became angry, and they sent forth throughout Judea and Jerusalem ordering all the people to cast the sweepings of their houses and the dirts over the sepulchre of Jesus of Nazareth. They continued to do so for more than 200 years, until it became a very great heap. When Saint Helen came to Jerusalem, and asked the Jews about the whereabouts of the Cross, they did not inform her. Finally, some of them told her about an old Jew called Judas who knew the place. She called him, and he denied it at first, but when she urged him, he told her about that pile. She ordered its removal and the Holy Cross was found. She built a church for it, consecrated it and celebrated the Honorable Cross on the seventeenth day of the month of Thout. Because the feast of the appearance of the Honorable Cross, which is on the tenth of Paramhat, always occurs during a fast, it was substituted by the fathers for the Seventeenth of Thout which is the day of consecration of its church. Glory and worship be to Jesus Christ our Lord forever and ever. Amen. See more

06.01.2022 Our holy father and teacher Saint Dioscorus was the 25th Pope and Patriarch and Alexandria and is known in Oriental Orthodox tradition as the defender, lamp, and champion of Orthodoxy. He was born in Alexandria and was educated in its theological school. He became the personal secretary of Pope Cyril of Alexandria. He accompanied St Cyril to the Third Ecumenical Council, held at Ephesus in 431, where Cyril presided in the condemnation of Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople.... After St Cyril departed, St Dioscorus was enthroned as his successor and lived in peace for 5 years. When St Dioscorus saw that Leo, Patriarch of Rome, was teaching that Christ has two natures and two wills after the Union, he took the charge to refute this new belief. He stated that our Lord Jesus Christ is one, He who was invited to the wedding as a man and changed the water into wine as a God, and that the two natures were not separated in all of His works. Quoting Pope Cyril, he said, "The Hypostatic Union of the Word of God with the flesh is like the union of the soul with the body and like the union of fire and iron: even as they are of two different natures, by their union they became one. Likewise, our Lord Christ is one Messiah, one Lord, and one Nature." None of those who were gathered at that assembly dared to contradict him. Among them were some who had attended the Council of Ephesus, which had been convened against Nestorius. Some informed the Emperor Marcian and the Empress Pulcheria that no one disobeyed their commands concerning the faith except Dioscorus, Patriarch of the City of Alexandria. They brought St. Dioscorus, and the leading bishops of the Council who debated and discussed the matter till it was evening, but St. Dioscorus would not deviate from his Orthodox belief and the teachings of the Church fathers. The emperor and empress were irritated at this, and the empress commanded to smite St. Dioscorus on his mouth, and to pluck out the hair of his beard. He took the hair and the teeth that were knocked out and sent them to Alexandria saying, "This is the fruit of Faith." St Dioscorus was exiled to the island of Gangra and received the crown of martyrdom on September 17, 454. May His prayers and blessings be with us all, Amen.
