25.01.2022 THE CHRISM MASS 6.00 PM, TUESDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER 2020 LIVESTREAMED from St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, Wollongong. The Chrism Mass will be livestreamed through the Lumen Christi Catholic Parishes’ YouTube Channel livemass.lumenchristi.org.au Clicking on the link will take you directly to the channel.... THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CHRISM MASS * All those who follow Jesus’ call are anointed with the Oil of Catechumens and the Chrism at their Baptism, and again with Chrism at their Confirmation. Those called to serve as priests and bishops are also anointed with the Chrism at their ordinations. Chrism is further used for the anointings pertaining to the dedication of churches and altars. * At the Chrism Mass, then, the priestly people gather with the bishop to celebrate the blessing of the Oil of Catechumens and the Chrism with which men and women are brought into God’s priestly people and men are ordained to the priesthood. * God’s priestly people are called to a ministry of healing. In the sacrament of healing known as the Anointing of the Sick, oil is again used to anoint the ill and infirm, and so the healing Church gathers at the Chrism Mass as the bishop blesses this Oil of the Sick. * Taking holy oils blessed by our chief pastor for sacramental use to each of the parishes in the local church of Wollongong is a sign of our unitybeing in communion with our bishop and with each other. * During the Eucharistic Prayer, the bishop invites all to remember the living and the dead. We pray for all the living people in our diocese: young, middle-aged and seniors; for our parishes and schools, and works of service and outreach; for our clergy, our seminarians, religious, teachers, catechists; and for those who are challenged by illness, poverty, or disability. We also pray for the dead: our own deceased relatives, friends and benefactors, all the faithful departed.

23.01.2022 Today we prayerfully remember all the lives tragically lost and relive a little of the pain, the grief and the sacrifice. LEST WE FORGET. Lord, many family and people we know, and love have served in our Armed Forces, to help make the world a more peaceful place. We lift them up to you those who have died and those still with us. May our prayer today help bring them and their loved ones comfort, peace and hope. We make this prayer in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

15.01.2022 This weekend the children of the parish will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.

10.01.2022 For many of our parishes, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal is being held this weekend, and the scope of this year’s appeal has been extended to support two important ...ministries: Our faith calls us to help one another through prayer and action. Your donation to my appeal will enable me to provide a dignified retirement for our diocesan clergy and ensure that our parish communities stay connected during this time of pandemic. While I acknowledge the pressure that some households are facing at this time, if you are in a financial position to give, I would be very grateful if you would consider giving generously to this appeal." +Bishop Brian Mascord To find out more information and to donate, please visit the Bishop’s Annual Appeal web page: https://www.dow.org.au/giving/bishops-annual-appeal/ #forallthingsgivethanks #BAA2020

04.01.2022 Today we celebrate the feast of our patron saint - Saint Michael the Archangel. Saint Michael the Archangel is the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is meaning of the title "Archangel". St. Michael has four main responsibilities as we know from scripture and Christian tradition:- ... * to combat Satan. * to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death. * to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself. * to call the faithful from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment. In The book of Daniel, St. Michael is mentioned twice. The first time as one who helped Daniel, and the second time he is mentioned regarding the end times of the world when he will stand for the "children of thy people." His next mention comes in the Epistle of St. Jude, where St. Michael is said to guard the tombs of Moses and Eve and has contended with Satan over the body of Moses. The final mention is in Revelation, where St. Michael and his angels, do battle with the dragon. Today, St. Michael is invoked for protection, especially from lethal enemies. He is also the patron of soldiers, police, and doctors. Mass to celebrate this feast will be at the usual Tuesday Mass at St Patrick’s at Berry (5:30pm). St Michael, pray for us .
