14.01.2022 BREAKING I welcome the announcement by the QLD Premier that QLD Health will establish a dedicated unit to deal with specialist appointments in a coordinat...ed and timely manner for those living in NSW. Key points from this mornings announcement: QLD will continue to keep their borders closed. QLD Health will establish a unit to deal with specialist appointments in a coordinated and timely manner. It will include a social worker as it's a distressing time for families. QLD will not deny emergency treatment to people in NSW. QLD will not deny specialist appointments to people who need specialist appointments in QLD. QLD Health will set-up a hotline to coordinate with families in a timely manner, and then they'll be prioritised to the CMO. This coordinated response unit to be set-up by the end of the week to alleviate concerns. This is a step in the right direction and I hope it brings some peace of mind to Tweed Shire residents knowing that there will be a streamlined process for medical exemptions. *** I will update this post as further information becomes available *** You can view the announcement here: https://www.facebook.com/annastaciamp/videos/883933365467729/ Photograph: Jason O’Brien/AAP

03.01.2022 HALT AND CONSULT! We stand united as a community. Here is the joint P&C Statement: The P&C Associations of Murwillumbah Public School, Murwillumbah High School..., Wollumbin High School and Murwillumbah East Public School: Value and welcome the much-needed local infrastructure investment in public education announced by the State Government and the Department of Education. Declare our disappointment in the unnecessary and deliberate absence of community consultation and transparency in the early planning and decision-making process thus far, leaving us no choice but to oppose the unilateral closure of three of the four public schools in Murwillumbah until the community is adequately engaged and sufficient information provided. The Government and Department should know that an engaged, informed community can be a valuable partner in the success of a project this size, and of such importance, in a close-knit regional area. Ask the government to immediately halt plans for these closures and initiate genuine consultation with the local community (student, teacher, staff, parent & community representatives), including allowing for the careful examination of the proposal for a new amalgamated school as well as what issues, evidence and alternative options for enhancing public education in Murwillumbah have been considered, in order to achieve the best educational outcomes for and with our local community.
