08.01.2022 Today, we completed the final concrete step between the new decking and verandah at Hideaway Cottage. Our two daughters, Ruby 7, and Elsie 3, helped Daddy mark the occasion with a hand print each in the fresh concrete. 03.01.2022 Now you see it, now you don’t! Vines are waking up after winter. Another week and there will be fresh green shoots everywhere. We mow the cover top down now for a number of reasons: 1. Knock out competition for moisture - the vines need to soak up the ground moisture now, not the cover crop. 2. Provide moisture conserving mulch and organic matter underneath the vine rows. Slows down evaporation during spring and minimises the requirement for irrigation.... 3. Early spring frost protection. The fresh vine shoots are vulnerable to frost burn early in the growing season. By keeping everything mowed, the cold air can flow to the low point of the property - the dams- thus minimising frost damage on a sub-zero morning. 4. I like driving tractors (). See more

02.01.2022 A great morning spent today with volunteers and neighbours from our community to help us plant another 300 native plants around the lake. This is part of the ‘Wildlife for Wine’ project, a joint venture between some Western Barossa landholders like us, BGWA and Landscape SA. What a wonderful community we live in! This is all part of our commitment to continually improve our property and ensure that we invest in the conservation of our natural environment. 02.01.2022 Magnificent brooding sky tonight. Looking East from the vineyard across the lake from Cupids Cottage. Time to start mowing down the covercrop in the vineyards, after last weeks beautiful rain, and just before the vines wake up from their long winter sleep!
