20.01.2022 One of the little ladies visiting a clover flower in my front lawn. Anyone else leave their lawns a bit longer this time of year to feed the bees?
16.01.2022 A few interesting little facts about the life of a honey bee!
15.01.2022 One of the little Stoneybrook Ladies collecting pollen from the flowers on our Lilly Pilly hedge this morning. Honey bees can visit up to 5000 flowers in one day. (Please consider which garden sprays you might be using on your plants. Some popular garden sprays kill bees).
14.01.2022 It's world Bee Day!
12.01.2022 Gorgeous Christmas gift ideas. This is my last honey extraction before Christmas, and I have available for purchase a limited number of: 500 gram jar 1 kg tub 150 & 250 gram containers of fresh, local raw honey, cut straight from the frame. (You can see the gorgeous golden honey sitting in the natural beeswax). My honey is not treated, and I do not use chemicals in my garden or in the bee hive. The honey in the 500g glass jars has been put through a strainer to collect any... excess wax before bottling. I am also offering a small number of Christmas packages for purchase. These include a jar of honey, together with a gorgeous Australian print tea towel. Numbers are limited. Please see individual pictures for prices. Pick up from Peregian Springs or I can deliver for a small fee to the Sunshine Coast area. Merry Christmas to all! See more
08.01.2022 A big thank you to my wonderful husband, who spent the day putting together new frames for my hives. Thanks honey you are the BEST! Nick Vlcek
07.01.2022 Raw honey is honey that hasn’t been heated or pasteurised , and it contains natural vitamins, enzymes, powerful antioxidants, and other important nutrients. Raw honey has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties, and promotes digestive health. Raw, local honey also contains a blend of local pollen, which can strengthen a person’s immune system, and reduce pollen allergy symptoms. When #honey is removed from the hive, it needs to be strained to remove parts of be...e bodies and pieces of wax. If a coarse strainer is used without heating, then the honey will contain the #pollen that was present in the original honey from the local area. If this local honey is ingested regularly, it can reduce pollen allergy symptoms in humans. By supporting #local honey producers, you can verify that the honey you’re purchasing is truly raw and has the beneficial properties that humans have used for centuries to treat many ailments. However, most commercial honey does not use the processing methods. Instead, very fine filters are used along with heat to create pasteurised honey with a long shelf life. The pasteurised, and ultra-filtered honey does not have the nutritional benefits of raw honey. I have a small amount of local raw honey available. (Photo and info Credit: Save the bees) See more
06.01.2022 Checked on the little ladies yesterday. Here's what they were doing!.. The second photo shows some capped brood. These cells are the baby bees that haven't hatched yet. They are developing under the brown coloured "cap" on the cells.
04.01.2022 What a great idea.... This page encourages you to 'Buy From the Bush' this Christmas and keep small towns kicking. It's hard to know what to do to support people living through drought. This is just one positive way to invest in small businesses who are feeling the strain. We'll be showcasing the beautiful things you can find in small boutiques and handmade goodies from locals. #buyfromthebush
