24.01.2022 A handy guide for everyone to use during storm and rain events.

23.01.2022 We’ve got some very windy weather tomorrow, so it’s time to prepare. - Secure and put away loose items around your property, so they don’t fly away and cause da...mage to your property or your neighbour’s property. - Park your cars under cover and away from trees, so limbs don’t fall on your car. - If you’re driving tomorrow, drive to the conditions and be aware of any debris and hazards on the road, including limited visibility due to raised dust. If you need emergency SES assistance, give us a call on 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately. Looking for more tips? Visit our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/storm/

22.01.2022 Last nights training got our members using a combination of powertools, hand tools and nail guns to construct anything of choice. Working in two teams, one team chose to make a frame while the other worked towards a trestle table. Our members come from various backgrounds and bring unique skills to the team. Some never touching powertools until being trained at SES. Each team was proud of their creation and all enjoyed the night refreshing skills.... If you are interested in challenging yourself or learning new skills, please send us a message and we'd love to have you come by training one night.

17.01.2022 With the Bureau of Meteorology declaring a La Niña event, it means we should be preparing for lots of rain, which means floods. We’ve already seen flooding in t...he north of the state, so we all need to stay prepared to make sure you keep yourself, your family, your friends and your community safe. We’ve got resources that will help, including a checklist, brochure, Easy English guide and translated resources in a range of languages. You can find all this on our website, so you can download and print them to keep them handy. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/about_us/sases_resources.jsp

14.01.2022 Tonight some of our members will be at the unit checking over our vehicles and equipment ensuring everyting is ready when needed. 12.01.2022 As we head into the warmer weather now it is a great time to refresh our memories on information about Heatwaves and things we all can do to stay safe.

12.01.2022 In the lead up to International Men’s Day this Thursday, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the men at the SA State Emergency Service. They will share some of... the highlights of being an SES volunteer as well as what they would say to others out there who are thinking about joining the SES. Say hello to James, a volunteer and Unit Manager at the Port Pirie SES Unit. Helping those in my community, surrounding areas and even on deployment interstate is a very strong motivator for myself. Knowing I have helped people locally and interstate has made me a better person in myself and a very proud member of the Port Pirie SES. For those men or women who are considering becoming an SES volunteer, I would say do it as it gives you a lot of hands-on skills and free national accredited training, connects you with the local community, and you might be able to be deployed as I was. You can become a part of a highly skilled and supportive team, make lifelong friendships and meet some amazing people. You won’t regret one moment.

09.01.2022 Remember we are here 24/7 to serve our community when in need.

09.01.2022 With Strath's volunteer rescue crew already responding to 3 road accidents and a tree down the last 2 days, it doesn't look like they're about to have a rest. Please stay safe, prepare your property and drive to conditions. Remember for emergency storm assistance call 132 500 or for life threatening emergencies call 000.

08.01.2022 As you would have seen last week, we make sandbags available at local units when major storms or floods are forecast for areas of South Australia. This gives co...mmunity members an opportunity to grab the sandbags they need to keep their homes and property safe from potential flooding and damage. Flooding is one of the most damaging natural disasters for our state’s economy. Although sandbags don’t stop the water completely, they can help reduce the amount of water entering your home and damaging your property if used correctly. You can buy sandbags from many hardware, landscaping or garden supply stores. Plastic shopping bags and grain and fodder bags may also be used in an emergency in place of sandbags. Or, you can grab them from your local SES Unit if they’re made available before a major storm or flood. You can find more information about sandbags, how to sandbag your home and how to dispose of sandbags by visiting our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/flood/before/sandbagging.jsp

08.01.2022 Great advice from the ABC about why you should never drive in floodwaters. If you need flood assistance, give us a call on 132 500. If it's a life-threatening emergency, call 000 immediately. For more information on how you can be prepared before, during and after a flood, visit our website.

07.01.2022 Something to think about over the long weekend.

06.01.2022 More thunderstorms with potential for lightning and strong gusty winds are expected over the Mid North, Flinders and Riverland regions of the state tomorrow. I...f you live or are camping or travelling in those areas, here’s some advice: Avoid setting up camp or parking your cars under or near trees Learn where to go for safety and the safe routes to get there. Make sure your emergency kit is stocked and you have an emergency plan ready. Monitor road conditions and road closures on the SA Infrastructure and Transport website (https://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/OutbackRoads). If you need us, call 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately. You can find more tips on our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/storm.jsp

05.01.2022 Today we have a few crew members at our local Woolworths - Strathalbyn to answer any of your questions regarding the SES and what we do. We are also taking expressions of interest to join our unit, no pressure to join, just come and meet the crew. Come by and say Hi Have a great Sunday!

02.01.2022 Today we worked with a crew from Meadows Country Fire Service to remove this tree from the road. It's always good to work with our fellow emergency services. As this will be our final post for 2019 and we would like to wish everyone a happy and safe new year. Please stay safe on the roads, lets not meet by accident.
