18.01.2022 In April 1943 Maxwell Reece of Boden Avenue Strathfield received his father’s Distinguished Service Medal from Rear-Admiral Muirhead-Gould in a ceremony in Sydney. He was just twelve. 03.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday As Qantas celebrates its centenary this month we remember the local boy who became its Chief Pilot in 1930. Lester Brain spent his childhood in Ashfield and Enfield, training with the RAAF before joining Qantas in 1924. He gained fame (and the Air Force Cross) in 1929 after discovering airmen, Moir and Owen, missing in Arnhem Land. In July 1930 Brain married Constance Brownhill of Strathfield.
