25.01.2022 For all our families that have children in school doing NAPLAN this week, this is so true.

22.01.2022 What an amazing group of educators we have here at SOCCS. I arrived to work this morning to one of the educators sharing her culture with all of us by providing morning tea. How thoughtful.

21.01.2022 What a beautiful email we received from one of our lovely parents yesterday.... ------------------------ Hi Mandy, ... I had the pleasure of participating in this mornings fire drill and I wanted to praise the educators and children for a great job! I got to experience first hand how calmly and orderly everyone executed this usually difficult exercise. It is quite clear that the children have done this many times and the staff were organised and worked well as a team, much like a well oiled engine. I am impressed at how well your team of educators communicated with each other and they should all give themselves a big pat on the back!!! As a parent, I am so glad to know that should an emergency occur, the centre will take full action in keeping everyone safe. Well done Team SOCCS

21.01.2022 It is National Reconciliation Week from the 27 May to 3 June. These dates mark two milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic MABO decision, respectively. Reconciliation must live in our hearts, minds and actions of all as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non- indigenous peoples. The educators at SOCCS have undergone a lot of training lately and are imbedding a lot of Aboriginal practice into their daily programs. The set up in the foyer is just one example of how we are recognising and respecting the Wangal people of the land in which our children play.

21.01.2022 What a great week we had celebrating "Book Week" this last week. We had many gorgeous children in costumes and children bringing in their favourite books to share.

21.01.2022 Today we had our Educator Training and Team Building Day. What a fantastic day it was! Started off with a training session and then lunch in the city followed by the amazing race in the Chinese Gardens at Darling Harbour organised by Yvonne, Staff Liaison Officer - a Parent of the Centre on the Parent Committee. Finished off with a traditional dress up in the Gardens and an Award Ceremony for the winning teams! We had so much fun and learnt so much about the importance of working together as a team! Go TEAM SOCCS.

18.01.2022 "Scientists have now confirmed something that children have always instinctively known; playing in mud is a joyful experience. Recent research has shown that dirt contains microscopic bacteria called Mycobacterium Vaccae which stimulates the immune system and increases the levels of serotonin in our brains, an endorphin that soothes, calms, and helps us to relax. Scientists say regular exposure to the bacteria may help reduce a childs vulnerability to depression. In short, p...laying in mud makes you happier! Playing in mud can make you healthier too. Science shows that todays sanitized world is actually contributing to increased levels of childhood allergies and asthma. Exposure to dirt and germs works to prime a childs immune system to prevent allergies. Yes, its actually healthy for children to get muddy!" http://www.communityplaythings.com//the-benefits-of-mud-pl

10.01.2022 What a beautiful family wall the Wombats have created in their classroom. The children love seeing their photos on display with their friends and families. It gives them a real sense of belonging.

10.01.2022 These are some lovely pictures from one of our children's bathrooms. Even though it is a bathroom, it's important that the children see that natural beauty can be everywhere. Here we see real flowers which give a nice fragrance, lovely natural rocks and the children's gorgeous artwork. Just another respectful place in our SOCCS environment.

02.01.2022 Children signing into class every day may seem silly to an adult, but its actually quite meaningful for children. These little 2 year olds are learning their letters in their name and reading their name through a rich and meaningful experience.
