24.01.2022 You’re first a footy player then an athlete. What I mean by this is. Your first focus should be on your skills. The rest of the speed and strength is what you add to your skill set. Everyone wants to be fast and powerful until they get found out with a lack of skill. ... There’s plenty of athletes but not enough genuine footy players with skill. Set yourself apart. Skills first and the rest is added. #skills #athletesecond #rugbyplayer #rugbyleague #youthfooty

20.01.2022 Floyd is a once in a lifetime athlete. . But if Floyd had a different coach aside from his father and uncle. Would he have had the same success? . Many boxing coaches would’ve definitely told him his left arm is too low, which it is! But having corrected that would have most definitely taken away his ability to shoulder roll which is what he’s infamous for in his counter fighting style.... . Now take that approach to footy. I’ve been blessed to be coached by many coaches through club and rep. . Having said that. They all have a different approach to the game but it’s the impact of that coaches playing style that could be a negative or positive to how you’re talent is used. . If we have good footwork, speed and an offload but the coach wants us to pass the ball all the time, then that takes us away from expressing our talent which ultimately hinders our chances of going further. . My guess is Floyd wanted to fight a certain way. One where he was comfortable. His father and uncle worked around that. . That’s why I teach kids certain things to add to their talent then help them be confident in expressing footy through their own lens. See more

14.01.2022 Blocker play. . Short answer is always making the play off the second defender. . Now if you have a rushing defender on the sweep player, you just hold your feet to allow yourself time to pass the ball or make a play.... . The biggest miss understanding with running plays is that you have to run onto to the ball. It’s about having space and space allows you time to make the correct play. . You either take space or you buy time for space. . The blocker play has a role for everyone. . Ball carrier has to engage the first person and make a play dependant on what the second defender does, either turning his hips in or out. . Lead runner is still an option for short ball and must run that line like he’s getting it. Hold the outside shoulder for as long as possible. . Sweeping player adjust his depth according to a possible rushing third defender. If you’re too flat the ball player can’t make a good ball between you and the lead runner and you’ll get pumped by rushing defence, so it’s important to hold enough space for you to be seen and have time to make a play. . . . . #ballplayers #leadrunner #sweepingplayer #blockoptions #rugbyleague #rugbyunion #rugby #nrl #superrugby See more

14.01.2022 If you’re aware about how we coach our boys. We have a huge focus on skill. Then put the skill into play. The skill based games is to help them understand the situations in front of them and knowing what’s the best play for that scenario. ... It takes a while to get it but when they do, they can’t unsee the opportunities on the field if they use their skills. #coach #skillscoaching #skilledplayers #rugbyleagueplayers #rugbyleaguecoach #confidentplayers

13.01.2022 3 reasons to use the switch play. . 1 Identify over tracking defence. . 2 straighten up your attack (going sideways).... . 3 Reset attack. (Getting too messy). . Anyone can run a switch. It’s about identifying the right time to use it. . Ball players are great organisers. Sometimes they can’t see everything. So you have to look up and play what’s in front of you and take into account the 3 things mentioned above. . Game knowledge allows you to do much more than others. Always learn and see how the game is unfolding. . Always be an example of what you’re teaching. . . . . #rugbymentor #rugbyonline #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #rugbycoach #rugbyathlete #game #defence #attack See more

10.01.2022 No matter what journey we’re on in life. We have a start position and an area where we want to be. Let’s call it our goals. In order for us to get to the other side. We need to acquire a set of skills to bridge that gap for us to cross. So unless we acquire those skills we can’t cross over to where we want to be. The success that we seek. ... I hope this video motivates you to understand that you’re still far from where you need to be. Skills pay the bills. #rugbyleaguecoach #rugbyunioncoach #skillsmasters #skillspaythebills #youthcoach #facts

09.01.2022 I grew up playing league until I was 19 years old. . When I transitioned to Union. I quickly found out that I didn’t really know how to pass a ball. . Yes passing a ball is easy, but there’s really an art to passing.... . It’s the timing, the spacing, long balls, short balls, the occasional pop with no look. When I was playing league, I was a great line runner and had footwork to cover me. It wasn’t till I went over to Union that I actually started to pass and consistently. The unlimited tackles is a big reason for that. . I eventually got better, but that too took a few years for me to get comfortable. Once I got better my potential to do more increased with the skill. . If you’re young and feel like it’s hard to execute new skills. Then take it from me. It’s not easy at first but once you get better, catch and pass becomes the best drill ever. Because you’re confident in the skill and the execution percentage is high. . Right now many people think they can pass properly. Until they’re tested. . One thing is for sure. People hate doing things they’re not good at. That’s why they get bored and never end up getting better. . Stay consistent and it’ll come. See more

06.01.2022 The game of footy is about identifying space. . Or creating space. . Then you get front foot ball. Your teams job once that’s done is to keep the momentum or pressure going.

06.01.2022 Identify the space in the switch. Understand it, apply it then teach it. #rugby
