25.01.2022 Drawing the breath..... This photo doesn't look at all interesting or very yogic does it? However it's actually a visual interpretation of my breath and is a form of art therapy which I had completely forgotten about until a dear friend reminded me recently-I've been usinga lot of late. Many of us find it hard to meditate and even us yoga teachers have times where the mind is in so much damage control that it feels impossible to sit in lotus and 'just be'. Drawing the breath... can be used as a form of meditation and is an easy way to bring yourself back to the present moment. Try this.... With a pen in hand and a blank piece of paper in front of you start drawing a line from the middle of your paper- as you breathe in draw your line up and then as you exhale let the line draw down the page. Continue on for as long as you feel comfortable but even 5 mins of this therapy will find you feeling more centred and calm. I'd love to see how your breath looks

23.01.2022 Hey Yogi friends, its a bit windy here in Melbourne today which actually it very fitting for tonights class which will focus on twists! As I watch the trees twist and move with the wind outside it reminds me that we need our bodies to be able to freely move and not be static. Twists are known to be energizing- they bring flexibility to the spine while providing a gentle massage to the internal organs. Get in touch to join us tonight for a twist or two!

19.01.2022 Are your legs crying out for some movement after sitting all day? Try Shoelace pose! Take a seated position with the back tall and the legs out in front. Lift the left leg over the top of the right, bringing the foot down near the knee. If this feels ok, you might like to come into the full pose by wrapping the right leg around bringing it close into the left buttock. Hands either resting or in prayer - then just breathe!... The pose gets it's name from the way the legs tie themselves into what looks like dramatic knots. It's great for the hips and whole pelvic area as femur bones come into external rotation while the internal organs of the digestive system get a well deserved massage. #yoga #shoelacepose #yogaforthehips

16.01.2022 Tadasana or Mountain Pose- Most classes we start in Tadasana, it's a foundation pose from which many poses start. Although it looks quite easy, it's the pose of pure posture. Head is tall, shoulders are rolled down away from the ears, spine is stretching out and the legs (our base of our mountain) are strongly planted to the earth. 16.01.2022 Sleep (or getting to sleep) can be hard, especially in times when we have so much on our minds, so much to think or worry about - like now. Most of the time if we just allow ourselves to focus on one thing, the thoughts can drop away and sleep will come. Tonight once you get into bed and you find your thoughts getting away from you, try focusing on the breath. Take a breath in and say to yourself I breathe in for 1, I breathe out for 1. On your next breath say to yourself, I breathe in for 2, I breathe out for 2. Use this focus point up to the count of 5 and then return back to counting in and out for 1 breath. Happy Sleep

The worst part of this is that majority of the time our shoulders are hunched, necks craned forward and our posture is slumping. 13.01.2022 It's a 'pose of a child' kind of weekend here in Melbourne. Balasana is a natural stress release and has a calming effect on the brain. I like to pull a blanket over myself in this position, slow down the breath and pretend that the world outside does not exist.... even if that is for only 5 mins.

What I didn't expect was to re-connect with old students, introduce yoga to a whole group of new people and to have my daughter, sister, niece and nephew in class at once! 11.01.2022 Life at the moment couldn't be any slower... right? We have all had to change and adapt to a new way of living which is challenging. But have you noticed among all of the uncertainty that we are facing, there is a feeling of ease? I'll be the first to admit that I'm enjoying not having any commitments at the moment- no rushing to and from work , no after school or weekend sport and not a single place to be on the weekend. This weeks class will take place ( preferably) with you on your bed- pj's recommended as the outfit of choice. We will gently stretch into a practice which will prepare the body for sleep. Next we will get cosy under the covers ready for me to guide you into Yoga Nidra- a form of deep relaxation known as the yogic sleep. 03.01.2022 So I've been thinking alot about posting some classes for you all to enjoy while we are in lockdown... the thing is I've tried so many times to record myself but between a house full of family, no dedicated space and the fact that it just feels weird talking the laptop it is just not happening! So I was thinking maybe I would be better to do a live Zoom session at my normal teaching time of 7:30pm on a Thursday night- who is keen? I'm thinking a nice deep relaxation session to start us off?

01.01.2022 This pose is commonly known as pose of a child - and as it states here it’s so beneficial for you. We use it a lot throughout class as a resting pose - to come out of more challenging poses and to pause and shut out the world around ( just for a moment anyway).
