24.01.2022 Here are the results from the The National Stroke Audit Rehabilitation Service Report 2020, at a glance. https://bit.ly/2UIjAnd The Rehabilitation Audit measures the quality of hospital based stroke rehabilitation care in Australia -- helping clinicians, healthcare administrators, and governments to identify improvement opportunities of rehabilitation services throughout Australia. We have work to do! #fightstroke

20.01.2022 Recently, Dan and 200 of his community, Training with Mates, ran a fun run relay. Running in small groups, they covered distances from between 5km 28km along Melbourne’s Kingston and Bayside coastline. TWM has smashed their fundraising goals and have raised an enormous $17,656. 4 years ago, Dan’s eldest sister Bec had a Grade 5 Aneurysm. Bec was 28 at the time and a successful, healthy and beautiful paramedic who took life on with her rare sense of optimism, fun and a rela...xed attitude. Bec was heading to Europe the day following her stroke with her then partner. They were planning on starting a family. This all changed in the blink of an eye. Dan recalls, for someone who thought ‘strokes’ only happened to older people, I had no idea why this had happened to her at such a young age nor what was entailed in the future for me and my family. The following 4 years since Bec’s stroke have been incredibly challenging for Bec and my family and this is why I want to raise awareness to promote the ‘invisible’ consequences of strokes." #stride4stroke

20.01.2022 Research: Exploring Telehealth Care Seeking Behaviour Across the Stroke Continuum: https://bit.ly/2IWn0jr Currently, there is limited knowledge about what stroke survivors think and experience when engaging in a telehealth-based service in Australia. This research will provide a better understanding of the role telehealth plays in the care of stroke survivors across the stroke continuum. The findings from this research will be useful for StrokeLine to understand how our services are meeting callers’ needs and may identify gaps in the continuity of care of stroke survivors in Australia.

20.01.2022 Every dollar raised through #Stride4Stroke will have an enormous impact. It will go towards Stroke Foundation programs like our free telephone advice service StrokeLine (1800 787 653) and EnableMe, which provides online support services to help survivors and their families transition to life back home after stroke and throughout the recovery journey. Post your photo below, and we'll add it tot he gallery. Happy striding!

19.01.2022 Col's goal is to drive again. The ability to drive will help him get back to some of his passions, like fishing. Although focused, Col says he is not optimistic, as he is five-years post stroke and still has right sided weakness. If you have any advice for Col, please share what you have learned. It may be just what he needs to hear.

14.01.2022 A huge shout out, to Joe and Pippa, who spread the F.A.S.T. message for #bookweek2020! Jo, 7, was a Farmer, and Pippa, 6, was a stroke Dr (aka Neurosurgeon). Your Mum, Zara, is so proud of you both and we’re glad she emailed us your photo so we could share. #yourock

12.01.2022 Kiara is smashing goals this month for #Stride4Stroke !! Kiara, has set herself a challenge to walk 100 kilometres throughout November. The 19-year-old says the cause is personal as her elder sister suffered several strokes in her early 20s. My sister, Chloe, was just 24 when she suffered her first stroke and then experienced another one several months later before doctors discovered she had holes in her heart, said Kiara. ... Chloe has been so brave and has had to learn to walk and talk again. I am proud to help raise funds for people like her and others in the future. A friend of Kiara’s also had a stroke at the age of 20, due to a rate condition, and this has made Kiara more determined to achieve her goal during Stride4Stroke month. Every dollar raised through Stride4Stroke will have an enormous impact. It will go towards vital Stroke Foundation programs like StrokeLine and EnableMe services which help survivors and their family’s transition to life back home after stroke and throughout the recovery journey. Kiara & Chloe

12.01.2022 Extreme heat can certainly take its toll on anyone; however stroke survivors have a higher risk of being seriously affected by the heat. Heat stress can cause dizziness, rashes, dehydration, exhaustion and can worsen any existing health conditions. With temperatures set to soar this week, here are a few handy hints to help you beat the heat and keep your cool. Have a plan: https://bit.ly/33dNwfJ P.S. Thank you for the reminder Barb!

12.01.2022 Too often we hear from survivors of stroke about their frustration and distress about not being able to return to their lives before stroke. Physically their recovery from stroke may have progressed well but mentally they are struggling with their emotions and thoughts. We have known for more than a decade that mood impairment or mental health issues can limit patient recovery, but nothing is changing within our health system: https://bit.ly/rehabaudit2020 #mentalhealth #rehabaudit2020

09.01.2022 Thank you to everyone that participated in #Stride4Stroke 2020. Even though it has been a challenging time, it was the most successful year ever. The funds raised will go towards supporting people and their families who are adjusting to life after stroke. ... Congratulations to everyone that met and exceeded their fundraising and activity goals. #amazing

05.01.2022 Gary, had an Inter-cranial Pontine Haemorrhage in July. He has asked a question about Parethesia (pins and needles, and numbness). The numbness is getting worse and is frightening for him. If anyone has experienced sensory changes after stroke, it would be great to share your perspective with Gary. StrokeLine (1800 787 653) has given a health professional response, but sometimes it’s good to hear from people living with it: https://bit.ly/3odWiT8 #EnableMe

05.01.2022 Stroke Stole our Spontaneity By Tracey #Stride4Stroke Oh spontaneity, my long-lost friend, how I miss you. Spontaneity is something of the past. ... I miss it. I miss being able to decide to head out to diner to go wherever we feel. Yes, with COVID I think you all have had touch of that. It has been a shitty time to have that freedom that we have been so used to taken away. That is how our life has been now for the last nearly 10 years. 01.01.2022 It was a normal morning in March 2017, but little did I know what was about to happen to me just one-month shy of my 36th birthday. My husband left for work early and I was in bed home alone with my puppy. I got up to use the bathroom and as I returned, I suddenly felt "weird". My head felt like it was spinning. As I always talk to my dog, I looked at her and said I don't feel well. However, this is not how it came out of my mouth. I grabbed my mobile to call my parents w...ho lived close by. I struggled to remember the number which was unusual, but finally it came to me. Mum and Dad came over and took one look at me and called the ambulance. On my way to hospital I started to get excruciating pain above my left eye. As the day went on, I became worse. I lost complete sight in my right eye and I couldn't eat or drink. After some tests, the doctors told me I'd need to have fluid drained from my brain through my spine. I was petrified. Read more: https://bit.ly/2KzbQSE - Leanne
