25.01.2022 Monolith. Another from Vancouver 2014. #architecturephotography #blackandwhite #longexposure

24.01.2022 1 year ago. This is one of my favorite portraits taken in my old studio. This portrait of @georrgiasophie is luminous and magical. Hmua by @ellengouldmua and shot in collaboration with @rubyredmonroe and @niamhfitzphoto #portrait #studio #beauty #lighting

22.01.2022 New floor about to go into the studio.

21.01.2022 A fitting theme for my top 9 of 2020 is my top 9 self portraits. I spend a bit of time in my new studio setting it up, building walls, floor, painting backdrops... and taking selfies to keep occupied during lockdown. I set up a green screen and made a bunch of entertaining educational videos for my psyc course and played a bit with my optical snoot that looks like window light. I did do a few portraits of others but the self portrait is so 2020. #studio #portrait #selfcare #2020 See more

20.01.2022 Inspiration: each of my recent photos of @n.thando17 can be described with a single word. This one I love for the inspiration and hope it conveys. Collaboration with @marymartistry @niamhfitzphoto shot at my studio @thecreatorincubator #dramaticportrait #portrait #studio #lighting

20.01.2022 The 1st test of my new backdrop with the lovely @jennie_pau97 As a light and very neutral grey it can go from bright and high key to dark and moody. I can als...o add a hint of colour to it to complement the other elements in the photo. 19.01.2022 Preparing to paint a canvas backdrop. Good thing I am surrounded by painters.

18.01.2022 In between artist profile shoots I played with lights of 3 different sizes. Off camera right is a spot light very high with a grid. The Westcott beauty dish to ...the left is giving fill and the 7 foot umbrella behind is not actually doing much except look big. #studio #selfportrait @thecreatorincubator #thecreatorincubator See more

17.01.2022 Devil in a blue dress. @ella_cox_03 from our studio shoot last week. The grey backdrop was tinted blue to complement her eyes and the I decided to make the blac...k dress blue as well. Magic also happens after the studio session. Makeup by @marymartistry shot at my studio @thecreatorincubator in collaboration with @niamhfitzphoto #studio #lighting #fashion See more

17.01.2022 Portrait hang out Monday. As Monday is a holiday I am hoping to hang out in the studio and make some cool portraits. Message me if you want to come by. Nothing ...complicated. Just a chat and a play with the lights and some pictures. (Photo of @georrgiasophie from a previously shoot). @thecreatorincubator #portraitphotography See more

17.01.2022 Dead on the outside. Alive inside. Not all the trees at Possum Brush had regrowth yet but most did. The burned textures a reminder that this was not that long ago. One disaster quickly replaced with another. #fire #australia #blackandwhitephotography

17.01.2022 Saw a similar colour version with a hundred crows and had to pull out this from 2015 Leamanah castle in the Burren. #castle #ireland #blackandwhite #tiltshift #crow

16.01.2022 Be brave. @n.thando17 became the first official portrait shoot in the new studio with makeup by @marymartistry and some collaboration styling by @niamhfitzphoto... and of course the backdrop from @mcb_studio_backdrops @thecreatorincubator #thecreatorincubator #portrait #studio #dramaticportrait See more

16.01.2022 The great thing about a studio with a movable fake window is you can be in a loft anywhere in the world. Here we have the Adelaide skyline inside my Newcastle studio. #studio #window #night

15.01.2022 Some still life in the studio. I whacked together a light table from an old big picture frame and covered it with tracing paper. Then shot some big and small leaves. #stilllifephotography #blackandwhite #leaf #fineart @thecreatorincubator #thecreatorincubator

15.01.2022 Had a great studio mentoring session with high school student Jade as she directed her sister for some action shots and used my camera to capture images for her... school project. Wonderful to watch the excitement as they captured the images and the process of refining the pose and progressive trials to reach Jade’s vision. Now the hard work for Jade as she has to choose 3 from the 72 captures to edit and print. We all know that pain. #studio #dance #action #mentoring @thecreatorincubator #thecreatorincubator See more

14.01.2022 The making of a panorama:This was a particularly difficult task because of the width of the mural and the inability to shoot it from a distance due to the trees... lining the path. I waited for a nice bright overcast day which would result in even lighting but no strong shadows. I then placed my Gigapan as far back as possible in the middle of the mural. I shot it with my wide angle 16-35, my 50 mm prime and also the 24mm Tilt shift. The 16 mm would be the easiest to work with as it would have the fewest number of shots and hence the smallest file size. But the illustrations below show the process using the 50mm. The Gigapan systematically creates a set of images using a grid. I am using a 30% overlap. The raw files are then exported as a jpg or tiff that the stitching software can use. It looks at patterns in all the images and looks for the overlap and creates a rough image. The 2nd image is the result of this and you can see some ghosting around the trees as the trees move slightly between shots. This default projection is spherical as the stitching software can tell the images result from a rotation of the camera both left to right and top to bottom. That produces a curved wall which is of course not correct. I swapped to the "planar" projection that maps this curved surface onto a flat one. This highly distorts the periphery but I don't care about that as it gets cropped. The final image has been tweaked to align everything and I dropped in a blue sky. Mural is by Bronte Nalor. 13.01.2022 Today’s shoot with Peter Yack @yakkastone where we put Peter through multiple outfits and lighting and then finally made an Aussie out of him with a dryasabone ...and a bit of grunge lighting. Now the hard part to select the best images for his modeling portfolio. @thecreatorincubator #dramaticportrait #portrait #studio #australia @mcb_studio_backdrops See more

11.01.2022 Some edgy film noir done in camera with the Strobepro optical snoot. There are a few of these now on the market but I like this one as it takes a lens on the fr...ont to focus the pattern (which can be changed). I have an old 1970 m42 Ashi 50 mm prime but have also put a super wide angle and a telephoto on it. Here I am using the warehouse window attachment and of course it totally sets the mood against the hand painted backdrop by @mcb_studio_backdrops model = @yakkastone Captured in my studio @thecreatorincubator #portraitphotography #dramaticportrait #filmnoir #moodyports See more

11.01.2022 They say never work with children or animals. I know now it is because they are so cute you might want to take them home. Thanks E for bringing kitch to the open portrait session today. @thecreatorincubator #thecreatorincubator #portrait #puppy #poodle #lowkey #pet

10.01.2022 I have been slaving away trying to recalibrate my printer. Since upgrading to Catalina the paper profiles are not rendering colours right. Everything seemed to ...have a yellow tint. So after 6 or 7 test prints, recalibration the paper and reinstalling the profiles I discovered the problem. Double profiling in custom papers. So thanks to the internet I have fixed it and am printing properly again. Image is of @n.thando17 from a shoot with @niamhfitzphoto at my studio @thecreatorincubator See more

09.01.2022 It is the 6 year anniversary of my all time favourite photo. A 15 sec exposure at the Natural History Museum in Paris. This won a Gold award at the NSW AIPP pro...fessional print awards and featured in my 1st exhibition at Newcastle Art Space in 2017. Here you can swipe to see the colour version that was the original travelogue post from Paris. This is not surprisingly also my best selling print. 08.01.2022 Phase 2 of the studio floor build. Jigsaw phase. I have filled in the big holes with cement and need to let that dry for another week to make sure there is no t...rapped moisture. 07.01.2022 Some more bats for your bat channel pleasure. Shooting with a very high iso and low f stop to get the transparency in the wings. But they move fast so focusing ...is hard and I put the shutter speed to 1/400 of a sec. shooting with my 70-200 + the 2x extender. I got better as I went but of course the light was fading. Then it went fully pink. Will edit one of those next. Yes. This is 4 separate shots put together. #bats #mynewcastle #myhamilton See more

01.01.2022 I have been photographing a fair bit of artists works lately so I thought it was time to neutralize the colour of my 2.4 x3 M hanging wall. I also added 2 of these 1.6 M gridded strip boxes to better control the light on the paintings. Together with my colour calibration chart this should now more easily capture the true colours of paintings.
