25.01.2022 Rohit Mankame is an international student from India currently pursuing a Master of International Tourism and Hospitality Management at Griffith University. Recently he commenced an internship at Service.com.au to increase his skill levels while providing work experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having heard mixed reviews from my friends about their own internship experiences, I didn’t know what to expect from an internship in Australia, but I was excited to join ...a new organisation and upskill Completing an internship definitely helped me to feel more prepared for full-time employment. I am currently in my last trimester in my program and will graduate in December this year. My goal was to learn a new skill just in case the hospitality industry crashed, but now having gained this opportunity through Study Gold Coast I have grown to love the field of digital marketing as well. It is just so mobile. All I need is a good stable internet connection and my MacBook to get the work done. This internship has taught me a lot. I learnt about digital marketing, how it works and what they do at Service.com.au. I felt like I was part of the team from the very first week. Everyone was welcoming and I even got my own comic on the whiteboard which was updated when a butterfly sat on my shirt at lunch. Are you interested in completing an internship? Check out our open opportunities on our website, along with Rohit's full story on his experience: https://www.studygoldcoast.org.au/work/open-opportunities/ #StudyGoldCoast #GCStudentJobs #TFBG #OpenOpportunities #Service.com.au

25.01.2022 The COVID-19 pandemic provided some unique challenges this year; lockdown, physical distancing, job security as well as remote learning and working. Almost overnight thousands of workers were displaced across the country, including Gold Coast hairdresser Siobhan Mulqueen who was stood down after restrictions mandated the closure of salons. However Siobhan turned her uncertainty into an opportunity by enrolling in TAFE Queensland range of free mirco-credentials.

25.01.2022 Meet our 2020 Gold Coast Student Excellence Award Winner - For Excellence in Enhancing our Communities Chamudi Samaratunga from @bonduniversity! Community engagement is extremely important to Chamudi Samaratunga. The Bond University law student first learnt the importance of the value of community engagement in Sri Lanka by participating in fundraising initiatives and providing food packages to the homeless. Those experiences inspired Chamudi to help those in need on the Go...ld Coast by volunteering her time at legal centres and on campus. Chamudi is a fundraising coordinator and advice night volunteer at My Community Legal, where she assists lawyers to provide free legal advice to the Gold Coast community. I believe everyone deserves access to legal services regardless of their socio-economic background, so it’s an extremely rewarding experience for me, she says. Chamudi has also worked as a Consulting Director and Project Manager at @180dcbond the world’s largest not-for-profit consultancy, along with volunteering and providing her services to more than six other national and international NFPs. #StudyGoldCoast #GCSEA20

23.01.2022 Griffith College has been empowering students to achieve their dream degree since 1996. By championing small classes over large auditoriums, their teachers can provide students with far more personal support, helping them overcome challenges as they arise. They are structured to deliver more than just academic success, placing equal importance on the personal fulfillment of students. A wide range of social and sports clubs, events and specially-developed support services give...s students the self-confidence to take whatever follows in their stride. Their one-year diplomas are university-designed, making many of them the same academic value as the first year’s degree study at Griffith University. Better still, their accelerated learning structure means you could complete your program in just two trimesters or 8 months. That way, you won’t just catch up with the students that went straight to university you’ll overtake them. How’s that for a head start? Check out all of their programs via their new website: www.griffithcollege.edu.au

Maros is currently studying on the Gold Coast, but that hasn’t stopped him also working on a number of l...ocal projects, including a massive underwater tree which forms the centrepiece of an artificial diving reef being built off-shore and the new Atlantis installation at Sea World. #StudyGoldCoast #TomorrowIsMine

18.01.2022 For Gauthier Fouques, like is all one big opportunity, you just have to say yes to things, you have to be prepared to try something new to see where it can take you. It’s all about being open to the idea of possibility. Ever since he was a little boy growing up in France Gauthier’s dream has been to come to Australia and now, after keeping an open mind to the possibility and having taken a healthy dose of fortuitous opportunity, he’s here studying carpentry at TAFE on the Gol...d Coast. Gauthier’s story is a testament to staying positive and if you have the right attitude anything is achievable. Listen on our website or via the link in our bio. #StudyGoldCoast #TomorrowisMine

18.01.2022 As Australia moved into lockdown earlier this year Study Gold Coast began to look at how we could help the city's students in need, particularly international students who did not receive any funding from the Federal Government. The most obvious and urgent issues were food and shelter. Study Gold Coast quickly began consulting with our members and the student community to ascertain the most effective solutions to these issues. One of them was to provide free grocery packs through the Gold Coast Student Hub.

13.01.2022 Business administration tends to be dominated by women, but that hasn’t stopped Jett Podesta from seizing his opportunity in the field. The Year 11 Merrimac State High School student is currently undertaking a traineeship with the Aurora Training Institute: RTO Code: 32237 as part of his Certificate III in Business Administration. It’s been an awesome experience, I’ve learnt so much - data entry, customer service, sales, all kinds of things I knew nothing about until I came here, says Jett. What surprised me most was how much I was treated like just another member of the team from day one. There was a lot of respect for what I brought to the table from all of the Aurora team. At the same time, I learn something new here every day. Find out more about Jett's experience: https://bit.ly/3m4LAy3

09.01.2022 Meet Krish Rawal an aspiring pilot from New Delhi. Krish originally came to Australia to study aviation in Sydney, but he soon realised that his course of study there would place limitations on his opportunities after graduation. After a little online research, Krish found the course he was looking for on the Gold Coast. I was studying to be a pilot at UNSW initially, but they only offer an Australian commercial pilot’s licence and I discovered that I would have to convert t...hat to an Indian pilot’s licence if I wanted to return home to work, he says. In contrast the course offered at Southern Cross University in partnership with Airways Aviation Academy is tailored to your own requirements which would give me a full pilot’s accreditation to fly in India. 08.01.2022 Salam! Dania here from @GriffithUniversity, one of the 2020 Mayor Student Ambassadors. Recently, we attended a networking event with established industry professionals and I wanted to share my experience The networking event was great as I got to re-connect with my fellow MSA friends and meet many professionals in the industry that provided us with great advice and suggestions with job seeking and coping during this difficult time. I learnt from guest speaker Hannah... (from @queenslandhealth) to never pass on an opportunity even if it seems out of your league and to just believe in yourself and get as much help as you can from fellow colleagues in a given opportunity. Overall, the experience enabled me to get a real perspective from people who have worked long enough in professional industries on how to build my confidence and aim for success. I’m grateful that they shared their experiences with us and that they got to know about us and our struggles as students as well. I look forward to more experiences like this as an International student on the Gold Coast, and sharing my journey with you all! #StudyGoldCoast
