24.01.2022 MAMA / / A note to all the Mamas who may be struggling at this time to stay connected. Many childcare centers and playgroups are now closed, mothers groups have been cancelled, public libraries are shut and more and more people are staying home during the outbreak of COVID-19. Motherhood especially with a baby can be isolating enough without an international pandemic, so remember if you’re feeling lonely to pick up the phone and call a friend, chat online, join a social n...etwork page (like @peanut) connect with other people. If you have a friend with a baby, check-in to see if she’s doing ok and if she needs anything. Mamas, go outside for a walk, see the horizon, stay healthy. Love your family, but look after yourself too. . We are all in this together, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Be kind to one another. . @fruitsofmotherhood

19.01.2022 Here’s hoping... #lifeinlockdown

14.01.2022 DUE DATE: Its December, which means for many of you it’s Baby Month! The third most popular month for births! Who’s due this month? Is it going to be a 2019 or a 2020 bub?

13.01.2022 COVID-19 / / ‘There has been a large amount of misinformation regarding the coronavirus and the effects on pregnant women and their fetus. This week, The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ROCG) have published guidance on coronavirus and pregnancy. What we know at the moment about the virus is that the novel coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) is a new strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19. It was first identified in China in Wuhan City in December 2019. Pregnant women do... not appear to be more susceptible to the consequences of coronavirus than the rest of the population. It is expected that the large majority of pregnant women who test positive to this virus will experience only mild/moderate flu-like symptoms. These include cough, fever, body aches and shortness of breath. The more severe symptoms such as pneumonia and hypoxia are widely described in the elderly or in those who are immunosuppressed (for example, those with chronic medical conditions such as cancer or lung disease). It is also thought that the fetus is unlikely to be exposed during pregnancy. There is no evidence that the virus can pass to your developing baby whilst you are pregnant. A recent overseas study looked at samples of amniotic fluid, cord blood, neonatal throat swabs and breastmilk taken from mothers who had tested positive to COVID-19 - all were negative to the virus. There is also no evidence to support an increased risk of miscarriage or early pregnancy loss. Whilst there are reports of premature labour and birth in women with COVID-19, it is not certain whether the premature birth occurred spontaneously or was bought on by concerns regarding the women's health status. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, there is no evidence to suggest that you cannot give birth vaginally or that is would be safer for you to have a caesarean section. It is however recommended, that when you go into labour that you have continuous fetal monitoring. At present there is no evidence that the virus can be carried in breastmilk, so it is felt that the well-recognised benefits of breastfeeding outweigh any potential risks of transmission of COVID-19 through breastmilk.’ . @drlenkliman
