25.01.2022 Kangaroos are not pests. Kangaroos do not damage the environment. Kangaroos have lived harmoniously within the Australian environment for 25 million years. Don't believe the lies. Head to our kangaroo blog for more myth busting: https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/kangaroosandenvironment/

25.01.2022 GUESS WHAT? The Animal Justice Party just got bigger! Congratulations to our 1st ever AJP Councillor, Charlie Vincent. It has never been more important to have a voice for animals in local government. Councils have enormous powers to improve animal and environmental protection, including banning the sale of fur, banning animal circuses and declaring animal sentience. Charlie Vincent Animal Justice Party Candidate - Alpine Shire 2020

25.01.2022 Ban trawler nets.

25.01.2022 'Parvovirus Outbreak in the Campbelltown Area Parvovirus in dogs is a highly contagious disease that affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs and is most often fatal. Vaccination against the virus is available from your local vet clinic and is recommended as it is the only way to protect your dog against this virus.'

23.01.2022 'Lest we forget our four-legged diggers and all the feathered animal friends who served too.' Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended 'at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month', in accordance with the armistice when the First World War officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919. Animals too should be remembered and hon...oured. We should never forget that these animals had no choice in the conflicts of war or their participation in these conflicts. Over 9 million animals died during WWI including many thousands of Australian war horses, mules, donkeys, pigeons and dogs. No Australian war animals were returned home due to quarantine restrictions. Further information can be found here: http://awamo.org.au/about/about-the-animals/ See more

23.01.2022 And Julie makes it 2 Victorian councillors elected in these elections! The Animal Justice Party is so proud to introduce our 5th elected representative - Julie Sloan, elected as a Councillor for Whipstick Ward in the Greater Bendigo Council. Julie, a lifelong resident of Bendigo, completed nurse training at Northern District School of Nursing, post-graduate studies at La Trobe University, Bendigo, and has worked in community health for 18 years.... Julie is the Party's 3rd elected representative in Victoria and our 3rd female representative! You can read more about Julie and her campaign, and send her messages of support here: Julie Sloan Animal Justice Party Candidate - Bendigo Council 2020

22.01.2022 Please follow Mark Pearson's advice, please fill in the survey: Today is the LAST DAY the community can speak out against mulesing via the NSW inquiry's public feedback survey. Please share the community survey with your friends and family - anyone, anywhere can submit a response: https://surveymonkey.com/r/J3DYNYT... Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign to ban mulesing and mandate pain relief for all invasive procedures on farmed animals. By taking the time to submit feedback to this public inquiry, you have helped send a clear message to the government that Australians no longer accept this unnecessary cruelty. I will bring you updates as the inquiry progresses over the coming weeks and months.

22.01.2022 1080 baits are indiscriminate - because despite claims that 1080 is less harmful to native marsupials, research from as far back as 1982 has shown that marsupials have suffered horrific deaths at the hand of 1080.

21.01.2022 When will we learn? Covid19 (and Mad Cow Disease, SARS, MERS, Ebola, swine flu) are obviously not enough of a warning against farming and eating animals; Zoonotic diseases are becoming more and more prevalent

20.01.2022 Why does the Animal Justice Party support those that choose veganism? Perhaps this video will help explain...

20.01.2022 With ongoing land clearing, koalas will likely be extinct soon...

19.01.2022 Now more than ever we need to protect our precious wildlife...

17.01.2022 Puppy farming in Australia must end...

17.01.2022 Nature should not be messed with. The ongoing imprisonment of animals for our entertainment and food needs to come to an end or it will be the death of us. Covid-19 is just one example of an animal virus jumping to humans.

16.01.2022 In puppy farms across NSW, mother dogs are forced to pump out litter after litter in small, barren pens until their bodies can no longer cope. Mairin McCubbin ...from CARMAR has publicly stated, We've had dogs with collapsed uteruses because they've been used to produce litter after litter, puppies with a range of diseases because of the filthy conditions they are raised in and animals that shudder at loud noises or even waving hands because of the abuse they've faced. This horrific practice must be banned in NSW. Help take action by signing the petition by our MP Emma Hurst and support her upcoming legislation here: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/petition_end_puppy_farming

12.01.2022 The Animal Justice Party is here for the animals and we will stand up for the Koalas...

12.01.2022 From Emma Hurst - Animal Justice Party MP WE DID IT! Laws to protect animal victims of domestic violence JUST passed through Parliament. Animal abuse will now be formally recognised as a form of domestic violence, and animals will be included on Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders. PLUS we passed an amendment so NSW law now recognises the link between animal abuse and domestic violence.... But we won’t stop here, there’s more to be done. We need laws which recognise animals as living, sentient beings instead of mere ‘property’. I support the recommendation by Domestic Violence NSW that the definition of ‘persons’ in domestic violence legislation should include animals. The fact that animals are considered property under the law is an anomaly. Nobody considers their cat or dog as a piece of property- as nothing more than a table or chair, they are members of the family, and our legislation should reflect that. The Animal Justice Party is committed to working toward long term domestic violence reform. With my tougher penalties legislation now being debated in Parliament, I’m certain we’ll have even more success in this space to share with you soon! See more

11.01.2022 Our scientists must be heard and they must be able to speak out on threatened species...

10.01.2022 'Animal based viruses only start overseas.' Wrong - bird flu right now in Victoria. Animal agriculture, even so-called 'free-range' ones like the one involved in this outbreak, are the main incubator for viruses that can crossover to humans.

09.01.2022 Animal agriculture and bird flu. So devastating for the animals. Time to stop talking about profits and start talking about well-being for the animals.

09.01.2022 The neglected, starving horse in a paddock. The blind, lame cow in a feedlot. The abused greyhound in the racing industry.... The day-old chick ground alive in the egg industry. These are just some of the animals used and abused daily in our state. And what hope do they have when the government department responsible for their welfare is the same government department in charge of maximising the profits of the animal agriculture industry? Next to none. What about the RSPCA? Currently, the RSPCA successfully prosecutes less than 1% of complaints they receive, so that tells you everything you need to know about the effectiveness of having under-resourced charities enforce animal cruelty laws. We know things need to change. NSW's animal cruelty legislation is decades old, and lagging far behind community expectations. This was proven without a doubt last year, when I chaired an Upper House parliamentary inquiry into NSW's animal cruelty laws. That's why one of our key recommendations was the establishment of an Independent Office of Animal Protection - a historical recommendation now permanently recorded as having been put on the parliamentary agenda. The NSW Government rejected this recommendation, along with many others, and therefore condemned millions of animals in NSW to needless suffering. We will not give up. If you haven't already, please sign our petition demanding an Independent Office of Animal Protection: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/ioap

09.01.2022 You bet they die...

09.01.2022 Have you joined yet?

08.01.2022 Trigger warning: animal violence and sarcasm. In a sign of Christmas cheer and goodwill towards all, the Dan Andrews Victorian Labor Government has approved the killing of kangaroos for human consumption in a sneaky email sent out on the 24th December to registered shooters in that state by that state's fancifully named 'Kangaroo Harvest Program'. No doubt timed to avoid too much scrutiny at this time of year, the yearly 'harvest' quota has been raised to 90,000. It is so tho...ughtful of them to use words like harvest, it makes you think it is like picking apples, but anything to avoid people picturing body parts being blasted off animals which adorn Australia's Coat of Arms is a good distraction. And because they can't think of anything else to help struggling businesses and workers in these areas - perhaps such as reworking them towards a sustainable plant based food production industry, which is probably, if not the fastest growing food industry in the world - their development plan is designed not only to murder these animals that were just minding their own business, they plan to development the export market too. Happy Holidays Dan Andrews.

07.01.2022 Bong Bong Races cancelled for 2020!

07.01.2022 These are some of the pathetic penalties for recent cases of extreme animal cruelty here in NSW. We have some of the lowest penalties for animal cruelty across ...Australia. Let's change that: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition Slap on the wrist penalties do nothing to deter abuse and fail to recognise the seriousness of these crimes. We won't wait for the Minister's 2 year ‘Action Plan’ review - tougher penalties are urgently needed now. If you are sick of seeing pitiful sentences for animal abuse or weakened sentences on appeal, speak up for animals by calling for tougher penalties for animal cruelty. Sign the petition here: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition

06.01.2022 While so much is being done to try and contain and control covid-19, hardly anyone is talking about the root cause - animal agriculture and animal consumption. Meanwhile the Victorian bird flu outbreak is growing.

05.01.2022 "The suffering we cause sheep in Australia, simply because we force them to exist in conditions intolerable to them, purely for human financial gain, is unconscionable." - Mark Pearson

05.01.2022 BREAKING: Animal abuse penalties are set to drastically increase as we table our legislation tomorrow. Our Bill will take NSW from being one of the softest states on animal cruelty to one of the toughest. Why? Because a $600 fine for bashing a puppy is pathetic. Because no fine and no jail time for beating a mother ringtail possum to death is unacceptable. Our legislation has the Government’s attention. Following our successful motion calling for tougher penalties and our an...nouncement to table legislation, the Government has now indicated they will bring in their own legislation this week, similar to that proposed by the Animal Justice Party. Now with both Houses in NSW Parliament considering legislation to increase penalties for animal cruelty, we’re confident we can achieve major changes. There’s still time to sign the petition and add your voice for this change. Until it passes we have to keep up the pressure: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/tougher_penalties_petition See more

03.01.2022 This is why it's imperative to protect our Kangaroos, because they feel just as we do...

03.01.2022 We need stronger protections for animals! Join us to help get these laws changed.

01.01.2022 In NSW, there are almost 1000 animal and plant species at risk of extinction. We must protect habitat for wildlife, like koalas, who face many threats. It has been predicted that koalas could become extinct in the wild in NSW by 2050. #threatenedspeciesday

01.01.2022 Tune in on Monday, Emma’s interviews are amazing....
