20.01.2022 Happy Christmas Territorians and especially if you live in the electorate of Fong Lim! Some thoughts as you recover from the prawns and turkey this stormy afternoon in Darwin. It has been a tough year for many of us; many have packed up and headed south leaving the rest of us struggling to keep paying the bills when businesses are closing and clients and customers drop away. The truth is that the economic slump we are all experiencing was avoidable if the CLP NTG had list...ened to those who saw this coming five or six years ago instead of focussing on themselves. Then Labor won and stuffed around, dithering and sitting on their hands for the past two years spending money on largely useless projects like Barneson Boulevarde and the underground car park at Parliament House amongst others. Spending money like mad and raising our debt to revenue ratio to frightening and unsustainable levels. Now 3 MLAs have been booted out for speaking up and telling the truth to shore up a weak and hopeless puppet Chief Minister - the spin is enough to make you gag. Any credibility gone out with a Darwin Harbour spring tide. So do we want another 18 months of this rot from our elected representatives? If Territorians could have the option, they would want an election just after Christmas but our marvellous legislators have made sure this is an almost impossible task. It does appear ( contrary to what most of us believe) that the Administrator and Governor General can't or won't sack an existing government and call an election without a motion of no confidence on the floor of Parliament. With the majority of seats being held by Labor, that is never going to happen. The other option is to petition the Queen to ask her to sack the NTG and call an election. This is being investigated and we will keep Territorians informed as it is complex. The only other option appears to be a Federal takeover. There certainly appears to be the capacity to do this but firstly, would the Feds want a basket case like the NT and secondly would Territorians want this? We were certainly happy to get rid of their administrators in the early 1970s - do we want to be under Canberra's heel again? So it looks like 2019 is going to be another politically interesting year. I am keen to hear your views. Would you sign a petition to the Queen or the Prime Minister? These matters may seem remote from our daily lives but the whole future of the NT, north and south, east and west, may be determined by what eventuates. Happy Christmas. See more

10.01.2022 Just in case anyone has friends or family in the Tennant Creek area who think they can get themselves elected and fix the Territory's mess.

04.01.2022 Lest we forget. 100 years since the guns stopped firing. One of great pieces of poetry.
