18.01.2022 Milly update... Well we think she is perfect, she now achieved what was once tooo scary. A swim in the creek, with her best bud Ochre making sure she is ok. We have turned a corner and not only we can catch her but we have recall.... Note the instinctive cast out to fetch the ball in one of the video's... It's a process to train behaviours missing in young adult dogs. Believe in the path, stay consistent the success will come.... Love you Mill Mill
18.01.2022 All the years Bindi worked at the shelter and she was greeted by the dogs she would be in-charge of that day like this. She walked into the exercise paddock with her mouth open and each dog greeted her by placing their nose in her mouth. Well the old boss dog is still the matriarch. Mills happy place is in Bindi's mouth.
18.01.2022 A young or poorly socialised dog can get themselves and other dogs in trouble. With their joy and enthusiasm they are missing the other dogs conversation or warnings. To learn to be social a dog must be on lead and be able to ignore the presence of other dogs. The team of you and your dog should be established enough, that you are a greater priority. This gives you the control you must have in off lead situations. Don't be in a rush, do the process, like any training.... Set them up for success and a safe comfortable life, free from issues.
12.01.2022 Sometimes it just nice to appreciate the silly pure joy of a dog..... Have a great day
09.01.2022 I definitely have the best job..... This is the stunning support dog Memphis who was a good girl today. Training a dog is a process it takes a plan with consistency, patience, rules/boundaries and then reward. If you look the lead its just draped over my thumb. It doesn't happen overnight, it's team work between trainer an owner. That's when the magic happens. My objective is to teach owners about their dog and develop a plan specifically for each individual animal. No two dogs are the same and owners as well...
05.01.2022 What is a learnt behaviour ? It's a behaviour, task or skill we repeatedly ask for and reward. The same can be said for behaviours we don't want. Sometimes we unknowingly reward them but also the reward comes from the enjoyment and stimulation the dog gets from the activity they choose. When we don't entervine it becomes a picture the dog has in their head of how to do something, cope with situations or react. We have to change that picture and give the dog greater reward with the new picture. One Ear Up Sue Merrick
