25.01.2022 Dressmaking and sewing are the perfect complement to flower gardens and homes with vases spilling with generous blooms. If I am tidying up or cleaning, I first pick a basketful of roses, peonies, anything in season. It gives me enough incentive to finish more mundane tasks. Look out for our homemaking workshop days that we not only teach basics of sewing but also growing, gathering and arranging flowers, easy vegetable growing making stocks and bread....making a house a home. Perfect for a pre wedding party or gift.

20.01.2022 Easter included several trips to the Easter Show to see the outstanding livestock, crafts, riders ..and who doesnt love a woodchop and rodeo and of course the Grand Parade? All this country deserves a country shirt so I made a pattern from the 1970s that I must have made at least 20 times.

We have had a few cancellations so have reduced the cost...a great reason for you to grab the opportunity. Also making great farm accessories. Sock savers are an essential item on the farm in summer. 18.01.2022 Seamstress Duster: Trying to design a duster coat to wear in the workroom so threads and fluff dont get over your clothes and tape measure sits well under a collar. Also big pockets and big cuffs to put pins if in a hurry. This is our first attempt..the pockets need total redesign and total redefining of all aspects. Duster coats were once found in all trades; traditionally worn to keep dust off horsemen but then taken up by chaffeurs, bootmakers and yes even seamstresses!

17.01.2022 We have great facilities in our new workroom; the giant ironing board is brilliant at any stage of clothes construction.

17.01.2022 Palazzo pants; ever heard of them? They are from the 60s, think large brimmed, floppy hats and platforms. They are probably a reincarnation of the beach pyjamas from the 20s. Anyway we had a go at drafting a pattern and voila...it took all of 30 minutes to run them up. They feel fantastic so we will work on some more patterns.

15.01.2022 Tailored shorts with pockets and upturned cuffs made by Roma in our school students class.

09.01.2022 This coat was made from a recycled wool blanket that I dyed red. Using the overlocker on flatlock and with some good pattern creativity, this coat was made in 4 hours. It was a finalist in the Australian Wool Fashion Awards in July.

08.01.2022 A wonderful ball at Lithgows historic Union Theatre. The Quota Ladies pull on a supper table that was a treat and could have been similar to ball suppers 50 or 100 years ago.It was a good occasion to road test Burda pattern . The pattern came together quickly...like all Burda patterns, fabulous cut but beware, few directions!

07.01.2022 I always suggest trying a new pattern with similar fabric eg cotton woven, but using old sheets, calico or reject. This was Christmas pudding calico...wish I had used a nice linen as it is a great, unusual pattern.

03.01.2022 While into leisure wear /sleepwear, where have all the nightgowns gone? They served both men and women for centuries but now Peter Alexander has convinced all that pyjamas are de rigeur. To counter that claim here is a wonderfully comfortable, classic nightgown, run up from a Butterick pattern.
