25.01.2022 || MARKETS CANCELLED || Hey salty friends It breaks our hearts to advise you that our last market of the season on the 28th March will no longer be going ahead.... How fast things can change, right? Our salty market thrives on human connection, social interaction and most importantly bringing people together, which is why we have made the responsible (and extremely heartfelt) decision not to proceed due to Covid-19. We've been working on our March Edition 'grand finale' markets for some months now, so this comes with big sadness, and not just for us but for our creative community who rely on local events like this to stay alive. ... BUT hey, once we all come through this, Summer x Salt will be back to blast those cabin fever blues away. 2020/21 here we come ... AND in the meantime, were working on something big to help all our awesome Makers selling online, offline + running home delivery services stay supported. And in business. WATCH THIS SPACE. 23.01.2022 Happy #WorldOceansDay salty friends. Today we celebrate and honour the ocean that connects us all, in big ways and small. I mean, how lucky are we to have so much BLUE salty goodness right on our doorstep?... // Did you know that the ocean covers more than 70% of our planets surface and provides 90% of its living space? And that every second breath we take comes from the ocean? (yep, Phytoplankton creates oxygen through photosynthesis). AND that the it's home to millions of species80% of all life on Earth. ... Just a few reasons why we love our Salty Blue. Thing is though, our ocean is in decline and at risk of failing, which is why weve all gotta do our bit to help. To date, Summer x Salt and our salty community have saved over 50,000 single use plastic bags and 20,000 single use coffee cups from going into landfill, and this is just the beginning... By 2022 we aim to be a 100% single-use plastic-free and waste-free event. So today when you have a little moment, please think about our salty blue planet, how special it is and how lucky we are. 21.01.2022 Last market we welcomed back many beloved stall holders, but unfortunately one was missing, Melodee Design Our much loved Mel and her beautiful family recently received the devastating news that their 2-year-old baby girl Isla has Leukaemia. Unfortunately, Mel has had to pull out of this salty season, but as is true for all salty family members no-one is left behind. To help, the community have busily been raising funds through Go Fund Me, reaching a huge $117K so far. BUT ...there is a massive journey ahead with at least 2.5 years of treatment expected for little Isla. 21.01.2022 Meet another one of our awesome Maker's ... Nicole from The Be Kind Tribe. Hey Nicole When we think conscious creatives, we cant look past this legend!... Nicole has been a part of our salty markets for some time now and her mission is one that fills our hearts. 100% of all The Be Kind Tribe profits go towards our oceans And each garment produced is ethical, kind and of course sustainable So you know we love it From creation to sale, Nicole sustainably sources the materials herself and hand draws her altruism inspired doodles for each of her salty threads. To date, this young entrepreneur has raised a total of $4,000 which has been generously donated to @nswrfs The Rescue Collective and Balu Blue Foundation Yeewww. This year she'd even planned to travel Aus with Endurothon Oz to help fight plastic pollution for 12 months, but Covid had other ideas (to be continued!). In the meantime, shell be back with us this season and can't wait to showcase her new ethical threads with our salty community! The Summer x Salt Markets have placed as State Finalist in the Australian Event Awards and Symposium for Best Small Event 2020. *YAY* We may be a small event but have some mighty stuff going on at a local level. Over the years, our markets have supported over 2000 small businesses, creatives, start ups and artisans here in Perth and we are so proud of what we have all (including our salty stalls) have achieved. ... Entries are judged on all aspects of event management including best practice, innovation, marketing, stakeholder engagement and management, sustainability and event legacy. As one of 7 children, Sara was taught to knit crochet and sew from a very young age by her mother - skill passed down from the generations that we now get to enjoy! How adorable are these!... Toastie Toots was established in 2012 when Sara started making knitted and crochet booties. Over time these evolved into luxury, handcrafted clothing and leather shoes using stunning linen, cotton and genuine leather. 01.01.2022 THANK YOU Two weeks ago we launched our first ever SALTY NIGHTS movie night and bushfire fundraiser. One word ... AMAZING! Not only was it a SELL OUT, but with everyone's generous donations and contributions we RAISED A HUGE $10,032.79 for Greening Australia and Wild2Free Inc. - Kangaroo Sanctuary ... To give you an idea of what we all, as a community have achieved - $10,032 can plant 5,000 trees, provide care and rehabilitation for 100 kangaroos and provide assistants for them to rebuild a new sanctuary. WOW, how amazing is that!! We are beyond grateful to everyone that came down - For all your support, generous donations, encouragement and love! We have the best salty community going Shout out to Realmark Coastal and the City of Stirling as our main sponsors, helping us make it come to life.
