25.01.2022 Bushcraft Day 3 - Rescue scenario Apologies for the poor pictures from this afternoon, it was very busy! The group received a distress call from a camper bitten by a snake. They had to locate said camper, treat the injury and transport them to the awaiting ambulance. Unfortunately one of our over eager bushcrafters didn't see the snake and got bit himself! Then we had 2 casualties! It was a very busy and excellent afternoon running through the bush and experiencing the world of first aid first hand. The kids had a ball and rose to the challenge fantastically. A fun and engaging way to introduce a normally very serious subject.

23.01.2022 Some of those better photos I was talking about! Thanks to Manny @deadset_racing_team for the awesome pics. Great to meet you fella, and thanks for the shots.

22.01.2022 Bushcraft day 5 was feast day. We had an amazing morning walk with the incredible @prisminvisible discovering some locally growing native bushtucker, and some identified plants from the school's garden. We found stink bugs and some industrious ants who appeared to have colonised a while tree! No edible grubs sadly, but lots of greens, potatoes, amaranth, lemon myrtle, lemongrass, arrowroot, cobblers pegs and all sorts of other yummies to be found. We also had a good look at ...some tracking, finding the trees popular with possums, some wallaby scat and even what looked like a koala scratch as well. A fantastic morning filled with wonder and learning for the kids.

22.01.2022 This deserves a post all of it's own! This morning we were blesses with the amazing talents of Bethan from @journalingwithnature She brought her paints, pencils and clipboards and introduced the kids to the wonder of their senses, journaling and art. She brought along her naturalist microscopes and magnifiers, but more than that her sense of wonder. It's incredible to watch her engage the children...this was the quietest session we have had all week as every child was enthra...lled with their discoveries and journals... All taking a journal home with them so they can continue their journey. Thank you Bethan for all your wonderful work, and long may this kinship continue.

19.01.2022 Last week was bushcraft, this is home sweet home for this week. Hanging with my @tiergear_tasmania hammock and @highrangeoutdoors MR40 at Frog Buttress, refreshing my Wilderness First Aid quals with @survivefirstaid Busy times!

14.01.2022 If you spend 15 minutes in your phone today, make it 15 minutes watching this TEDx talk. A great illustration of the importance and power of nature connection. This is directly proposing journalling and sketching, but any nature connecting activity is worth doing... If you're a hiker, bushcrafter or whatever... Nurture that relationship with the natural world... It's important to you and to the planet as a whole! https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=YMuZjg7l7Wg

14.01.2022 Day 1 afternoon - pioneering. In the 17th and 18th century, when a military wanted to manoeuvre they sent the Pioneer Corps ahead to 'pioneer' a trail for the infantry to follow. These soldiers built bridges, lookout towers, made encampment space and shelter for the army to arrive at as they marched, only out of what they found and cut on the way. We still have biridge builders and engineers in the military nowadays buy technology and vehicles makes this skill set very differ...ent. The classic skill set lives in in scouting and bushcraft I'm the art of knots and lashings. Our intrepid bushcrafters spent the afternoon identifying appropriately straight weed species, felling them and learned the clove hitch, square lashing and round lashing to build themselves a flag pole, with raisable and lowerable flag. Then we played capture the flag! So much fun, and exhausted kids at the end of the day. #lovethisjob #knotsareawesome

11.01.2022 Bushcraft day 5, the final installment. After our morning forage we cooked and played games. The kids helped build a pot hangar over the fire and whittled some billy hangers, the dug the fire trench and prepared our harvest. We may have slipped from bushcraft into camping at this point, but worth it for the pancakes, popcorn, lemongrass tea, potato stew and potator and greens paperbark wrapped buried underneath the coals.... The kids learned a lot of different techniques for cooking, preparing and building... And no camp fire is complete without the obligatory marshmallows on a stick! A great end to a great week. Thanks for joining us vicariously through these posts, and if you like what you see, get in touch...we'll be back again next holidays!

08.01.2022 These kids at the #waldorf100 Youth Conference in Samford continue to amaze me! Today we did some nature connection and tree identification and then the students started painting and drawing with their new resources. Shown here are reed pens made of bamboo, homemade charcoal holders out of bamboo, some grass paint brushes and a cockspur thorn wedged in the end of a stick.... One student even decided to try painting with a wild passion fruit! What an awesome workshop... Can't wait to see what they produce tomorrow!

08.01.2022 Bushcraft Day 2 - green woodwork Today we had planned navigation for the afternoon, bit the kids were so enthused by the woodwork none wanted to stop...and who am I to make them?! We collectively made an amazing boat, a pair of clap sticks, a bokken, a few spears, some tent pegs a tinder drying rack, and so much more.... The shaving horse was the biggest hit... I'm going to have to make more of those, and the knife and axe work was excellent. They all did a great job!

03.01.2022 Bushcraft Day 4 - Nature connection and survival scenario This morning we spent time investigating our nature connection. We started connecting to our own bodies and senses before mimicking animal forms where we walked like the fox, possum, duck and goanna. We engaged in some beautiful nature journalling and 'met a tree'. In the afternoon the group were provided a survival scenario an only a small personal survival kit to build a shelter, start a fire and clean some drinking water. As you can see, everyone had an absolute blast, and rounding the day off with some running games on the oval was just what the doctor ordered.

02.01.2022 Check out one of our awesome Year 12 students and great Sun and Stars assistant who is using his senior research project to help others and to get a good climb in! He's organised the whole thing in dependently so do please consider supporting this quality individual! :)
