25.01.2022 Hi Gardeners We are all loving the beautiful spring days, and it's work, work and more work in the garden at this time of year with an abundance of weeds and maintenance to wrangle. So here's something to remind us why we do it...yes we do it to grow food, and yes, we do it for the beauty. But most of all, we do it for love. Trish October shows us her wonderful cool climate garden sanctuary in this post from Gardening Australia... https://www.facebook.com/gardeningaustralia/videos/373968990431432/?extid=hdL04th6hQKxzn49

22.01.2022 For those if you like me, who aren't so good at growing indoor plants, this is the best indoor plants 101 that I've ever come across. Maybe I won't give up and go with plastic yet after all.

21.01.2022 Harvest Sunbury Produce Swap tomorrow at 10am.

19.01.2022 The most stunning garden... When I look at gardens like this, I think "wow, I love it, but what about the maintenance?" It must be nice for them as experienced gardeners, to enjoy sharing pottering together as well as enjoying the beauty.

14.01.2022 It's spring...Yay! If anyone want to buy seeds. The Seed Collective has it all. Great quality and a good price. https://www.theseedcollection.com.au/

11.01.2022 Hey...Did you know that we are actually about 1% human and 99% bacteria? We are part of a symbiotic relationship with bacteria that benefits not only our physical health, but our mental health too! From the soil to our plates, we really are the bacteria that we eat, and the more diverse our food choices, the better our gut bacteria or BIOME, and therefore our health. Fermented and prebiotic foods are a great way to increase our biome.... Here's a traditional recipe for one of my favourite Korean fermented foods... KIMCHI, Cabbage is plentiful at the moment, so why not ferment and store it. Enjoy! (Courtesy of Feastingathome.com

08.01.2022 Hi Everyone, it' been forever since we've been around on FB, but we are back!...and just want to acknowledge all of you wonderful locals out there who are part of our FB community, and all people who love their gardens. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, Sunbury Community Garden is closed to the public at this time. However, we look forward to a time when this craziness is over, so we can all enjoy the garden together again. We also look forward to hosting our regular meetings..., produce swaps and events, and to welcoming new members. Our new committee is passionate about all things gardening. We are a bunch of like minded professionals that have come together to encourage a sense of community and sharing. Drop us a line or ask us a question, and one of our gardeners will no doubt be able to offer their wisdom and thoughts. Or just say H!

07.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone. Thought you might be interested in "Leaf Snap" .....a free plant identifier app for either Apple or Android. One thing that gardener's often need is an easy way to identify a plant or tree they are interested in or have problems with. You can simply snap a photo, and identify it in the Leaf Snap app. ... There are other free app that will do this too. If you have one that you like, let us know about it. Have a great weekend. Tomorrow's going to be 27 deg, so remember your hat and enjoy. This link will take you to an article that tells you about Leaf Snap. ...http://sciencenetlinks.com/tools/leafsnap-app/

05.01.2022 The Hume Seed Library is a great initiative to build community, food security and resilience in the City of Hume. It also preserves rare, open-pollinated or heirloom seeds, and encourages gardeners to save quality seeds that are suitable for your local growing area. The Library principle is simple:... 1. Borrow and plant some seeds 2. Grow your harvest 3. Save your seeds and share them back to the Seed Library ***. Of course, the seed library welcomes any additional donations of any types of seeds. At the moment, the Seed Library is being hosted at An apple a Day Natural Health Store at 49 O'Shanassy Street Sunbury. Just drop in to borrow some seeds.

03.01.2022 If you still need to prune your Citrus trees and lacking some confidence on how to go about it, this video is excellent and very comprehensive. You may have seen Costa's video where he skeleton prunes a mandarin. Not for the feint hearted, and not something that you would do very often, but definitely something that will benefit an established tree for better shape, bigger fruit and overall health by letting light into the tree too. On a more regular basis though, whilst t...he school of thought is divided on whether to prune or not, most people would agree that regular pruning does indeed benefit the tree, and encourages new growth as well as a more plentiful crop. For sure though, your choice and extent to which you prune will depend on factors such as whether your trees are in pots or in the ground, and on your particular motivation for pruning. Enjoy the video below, and feel free to comment or share any tips or knowledge from your own experience
