18.01.2022 Hi Everyone, letting you know the tournament results and grand prix have been updated on the web page.

17.01.2022 The Sunshine Coast Women and Girls’ Chess Championships 2018 were held on Sunday the 5th of August. This, a small but classy tournament hosted by the Suncoast Chess Club, is one of the longest running events on the Coast Chess calendar, and again was a great success. Rebecca Bleney, from the Club, was unbeaten, reversing last year’s result by winning against 20 year old Courtney Ryan. This was Rebecca’s 9th Title since her first, with a joint win in the year 2000.... Courtney placed 2nd on 6 points. Jithmini Herath, a Matthew Flinders Secondary schooler, and Club Life-Member, Wendy Coghill, finished equal with 5pts each. Jithmini took 3rd Place on the tie-break. Outstanding young player of the tournament was Isabella Smith from Buddina, 4 from 7 and winner of the Under 8 section. 13.01.2022 5th August 2018 The Tournament Notice for the Sunshine Coast Women and Girls’ Chess championships. This is one of the longest running Chess events here on the Sunshine Coast, hosted by the Suncoast Chess Club and is renowned as a friendly, fun and classy little tournament.... Open to all ages and levels, played as one tournament, but also judged in Age Groups, with medals and prizes. This is a great opportunity to learn and play for the less experienced, plus a strong competition for the more advanced.

09.01.2022 Hassan Rajabian the 2017 suncoast chess club champion The Suncoast Chess Championship has been completed. It was very close field with 5 players on 4 points after 6 rounds. After 7 rounds 3 players were on 5 points. In the end two of the three players withdrew from the playoffs to leave Hassan Rajabian the 2017 suncoast chess club champion. Well done Hassan.... Stuart Lee won the under 1300 section to claim the Bill Powell shield. He did this after missing the first two rounds and winning 4 out of his 5 games. Well done Stuart. Full results can be found out at the club or when they get posted on the clubs webpage. Our AGM is on the 26th of September. All welcome, all positions to be voted on, any interested persons welcomed on the committee. A blitz tournament to follow it with prizes for members. If anyone is looking at playing in a weekend tournament this year I would think that THE 2017 LEO WILKINSON MEMORIAL would be an excellent choice. I have played in many tournaments hosted by the Redcliffe club and they do a great job. A link to the flyer can be found on the CAQ website. The event is on the 23rd and 24th of September. Kind Regards, Jeff

09.01.2022 Winner of the Bill Powell Shield for 2017 (rating < 1300) - Stuart Lee
