25.01.2022 I was lucky enough to lay my hands on a tonne of O’Shaughnessy gangs from the Shogun manufacturers in 5/0, 6/0, 7/0 and 8/0 this week. Basically anything with a mouth wide enough to fit these in are in trouble! What can you expect from this? 1. Finished two and 3 ganged flashers to suit anything from tailor, jew, emperor, trout, pearlies, cod, nannygai, snapper, mackerel and so on ... 2. Aussie made trolling heads and ganged wog or streamer style set ups for mackerel. 3. Floatlining or suspended big baits once we’re are happy with our programmes moulds- similar to what is working on snapper both east coast and west coast. 4. Mackerel two gangs for floating pillies on single strand rigs 5. Any reasonable request you legends may have for custom builds ;) To start with these will be sold in 2 gangs as assembled packs of 10 starting at $50 or individual for $5.50 with an option for the additional third hook at $1 extra I do have a few days worth of custom back logs to clear now my wrists have had a rest and I’ll be posting the first batch up once I get the thumbs up from my testers up north #snappacandi #redemperor #uvflasher #baitfishpattern #coraltroutfishing #1770fishing #swainsreeftrip #expeditionfishing #gangedflashers #customrigs

24.01.2022 Alright hands up!! Who knows what this is?

23.01.2022 Feathered baitfish ties

22.01.2022 A quick look at the difference between a 6/0 and 8/0 circle. As a circle is designed to hook up on the corner of the mouth behind the jawline in that softer tissue it is extremely important choosing the right size of hook. What I mean by that is, a 6/0 may be a good hook for little pannies as the gale and throat of the hook is big enough to be exposed and roll into a hook up but if a larger fish comes along it may not necessarily be large enough to secure the hook up before... the bait is spat out faster than rank milk. This is a 75cm fish wjrh the first pic being an 8/0 which clearly shows the mouth is big enough to inhale that hook along with a bait and it will have enough clearance to roll into place when it comes to the business side of a strike. The second pic is the 6/0, where yes a hook up is still on the cards.... however the likelihood of getting the hook up that sticks in the sweet spot is reduced. Which also means penetrating the back of the jaw line in that short window of opportunity holding the weight of the fish on a run is greatly decreased. The main point I want to put across here is not to worry about using a circle hook that sounds large when it comes to chasing the bigger fish. 8/0 is perfect for a 50cm to 100cm specimen when it comes to snapper and will also take cobia, Jews and kingies very comfortably

22.01.2022 Decent feed for the lucky bunch up north. Combinations of twin gangs and sliders doing the damage this time round. #coraltrout #1770 #fishing #barrierreef #flasherrigs

22.01.2022 Building this weekend, mainly 7/0 & 8/0 circles, 6/0 & 8/0 beaks along with 5/0 & 6/0 gangs

21.01.2022 Those little heavy gauge flashers did and awesome job on this jack and countless over species for Jarrod. There’s only a handful of these gone out the door and producing great results already so watch this space for the next few weeks. I’ll be doing finer whiting flashers and heavier bream, tailor and jack treats

20.01.2022 Here’s to next year legends and keeping on track through the ups and downs. I think I speak for myself and many others within this circle- it’s been testing and still ongoing but to be honest it’s not been all crap. Coming out of a kitchen and stable job into the unknown of making my own gear the way I do, has been daunting and often unrewarding some weeks. I had to lose most of myself through lock down and face some tough choices to rebuild myself towards the person I’ve b...een aspiring to be. I’m still here and have it all to look forward to next year. Not to mention I’ve smacked a couple of great fish with new friends this year, an overall highlight for me And that’s thanks to you guys- again I reiterate a huge thank you everyone from my suppliers to my non supporters, I’m in a good spot as a result Sincerely all the very best and tight lines for the coming year from myself and Freyja. #goodbye2020 #onwardsansupwards #localmade #bestgearthisyear #challengeyourself #reachout #beproud

20.01.2022 I had the pleasure of netting a serious lump of red and landing it on the on the deck for Matty yesterday. This fish is the first going into the categories for largest measured and also an eligible fish for best photo during the September and October competition. Took a floatlined pilly wjrh a geeen baitfish in 8/0 pinning itself on the 6/0 stinger from offshore Gold Coast.

20.01.2022 Remember guys ALL snapper caught for before November are eligible for prizes. There’s post live that may not have been seen by many of you. *biggest fish caught by a customer regardless of gear used*... *best pic- each like on the pic is a vote* *3 mystery lengths* Two Queensland based soft plastic manufacturers sponsoring packs of soft plastics and products from me as prizes

19.01.2022 Every tie is a 3 way concept, belly, core and top profile. This blend of 6 different products is just for the top profile and can hold up to 10 different individual materials to make up the finer details in the bait imitations. This one is a slimey mackerel blend, no light tricks or filters- just straight up as I see it but maybe not as good in a picture ... Building all weekend and most of next week in between a couple of custom commitments #uvflasher #snappacandi #bkkhooksaustralia #suncoastskutes #snapperfishing #australianmade

18.01.2022 Another very strong testament coming from Moreton yesterday. Holman special and the pinky pilly getting smacked straight up #snappacandi #uvglowflashers #bkkhooksaustralia

18.01.2022 85cm on a Holman Special 8/0 circle. This one a synthetic version of the feathered one doing the damage with a whole squid. I use the circle to pin the body of the tube while I thread the hook through the middle and out the same side of the head. A 6/0 beak threaded the same way and held tight with a half hitch at the top of the tube will reduce loosing the bait faster. ... #snappcandi #uvglowflashers #bkkhooksaustralia #snapperfishing #suncoastskutes

17.01.2022 There’s always something special about big snapper. For me it’s the countless failed attempts to line everything up and what I’ve learned in order for me to upskill, share knowledge, calculate guess work, pair teamwork and celebrate the wins in good company. At 32 I’m still a big kid and so I don’t mind letting it out every now and then like these moments I get to share with all you legends

16.01.2022 Took the KastKing Sharky baitrunner out for a spin- literally. Spotties burning runs are the best fun in a budget and simplest forms of fishing too

16.01.2022 Part 2 of the swim tank for the 6/0 BKK pinky pilly pattern. Take note of what the extra $2 buys for the flouro eyes and the motion in the feathers. These ones will catch fish with no bait, it has been done recently by a longtail tuna. #uvglowflashers

16.01.2022 Longtail blasting a skute on the weekend in the Moreton Bay! Andrew has been nailing a few good fish lately so it’ll be a pleasure to see what other carnage that snapper based selection pack will cause this season ;) New heads coming soon and production of lures is down to help me support myself on snapper rigs and flashers, watch this space though I promise to fill it with chooona fodder and offshore lures in due time ... #tunalures #moretonbay #tuna #longtail #suncoastskutes #snappacandi #customlures #supportinglocals #fishingqueensland

16.01.2022 It’s no secret, I fckn lurve tusky! Mainly it’s ability to crisp up and marbles fat content along with it’s diet of shellfish or makes for an awesome table fish in any home! This is a miso glaze which is sake and mirin reduced by half its volume and miso blended in to taste. As I turn the fish I drench the fish with plenty of glaze allowing it to soak into the skin and caramelise around the meat as it slides off. A quick swirl around the pan and a squeeze of lime, take the ...fish out to rest and finish cooking before braising greens in the same pan. By this I mean take the fish out while it still holds plenty of heat and has another minute of cooking to go- this residual heat is more than enough to continue cooking that last 10% and is all the difference between good and perfect! Pics in comments will make sense of this one pan no fuss style of cooking. Make plenty of glaze as it is banging on steaks and pork too and lasts forever

15.01.2022 I imagine a few of these weapons coming out of Moreton over the next couple of nights. Anyone heading out remember there’s prize opportunities for all fish submitted in the running competition ending 31st October. To be eligible all you need to be is a new or existing customer #snappacandi #snapperfishingaustralia #customlures #aussiemade #uvflasher #supportingsmallbusinesses

15.01.2022 Back up Go-Pro providing a rather average quality great pic to mark a couple of memorable fish. 82 and 85 from the NE 36s off Goldy last week. 3 drifts, 5 fish and home time after a slow afternoon waiting on the gravitational influences doing their thing.... 8/0 beak in green baitfish with a floating pilly and 8/0 circle Holman special pattern pinned into a whole squid. #uvflasher #suncoastskutes #snappacandi #goldcoastfishing #snapperfishing

13.01.2022 Shame the skute didn’t live to tell the tale but the pics I guess are the next best thing. As always a massive thanks for the support and a pleasure to see some inspiration being transferred across into the local fishing community. I’m stocking heads but not in any rush to make any custom work going into Xmas silly season. If anyone wants any DIY packs featuring glow materials, white feathers and numerous flash fibres send me a message as I’m more than happy to let my stoc...k slide for a great cause #customlures #tieyourown #skutes #saltwaterflytying #fiahingqld #snapperfishing #snappacandi

13.01.2022 As a chef by trade here’s topic that quite frequently comes up on the boat- how do I store prep and cook my fish. Quite simply once it comes off the boat I like to hold it in the esky on ice as long as it’s an ice bag if there’s a bin liner creating a barrier to prevent direct contact. I’ll happily hold it for a couple of days providing the ice is good and there’s nothing else smelly been in the esky like bait. (This is me being lazy, I aim for overnight) I’ll gut it as I’m w...ashing out the esky on the second day and transfer the fish the the fridge whole I till I fillet it normally on the 4th day or sooner if I have dinner plans. I don’t hold onto big hauls of snapper so having a bag limit to deal with is never really an issue for using the fish before it turns. I don’t fillet and then Vac Pac because keeping a fish whole while in storeage will last longer and I eat it generally on the day I fillet or the day after. Prep wise, I fillet it with the scales still in tact and go through the ribs leaving me a whole fillet to skin. I’ll trim out each rib bone with a skinnier knife and quickly trim out any stomach lining or excess belly sinus. Keeping the scales on means I can go directly against the grain all the way to the skin without tearing it and I can get under the pin bones as I do so leaving me zero waste. Portioning I don’t think too much about scrap as I like to have each piece the same size for cooking evenly whether I’m pan frying it or roasting it. Here’s a rough guide to getting those cuts out a larger fillet- trim back from the last pin bone vertical on the loin, take an appropriate angle to leave a belly/flank portion then divide the loin and shoulder in half. (These are smaller because they are thicker) I have a dog who loves fish so she gets all the small trimmings but they are perfect for marinading and chucking in a curry, chowder, tacos, pasta, soup, wrap, salad or even a sandwIch if fishcakes ever gets boring . *** if roasting lay a sheet of baking paper down then lay the skin down scales first then season and oil it before laying the chunks back on it. They’ll bake a lot better without that direct bottom heat of the tray

09.01.2022 Blend a bit of lateral black trim and swap out the thread for a bloody red colour theme and I reckon my take on a slimey mack will hit the mark pretty quickly

09.01.2022 UV Glow Mackerel pattern heading into this weeks bulk reef packs. Pelagic species love them and so do demersal bottom dwellers- what not to like about this pattern? It is Uv reactive, it glows in the dark, it has a blend that changes colour depending on how it’s moving, it flashes, it resembles actual bait, it’s resin finished, it’s on a BKK top quality hook and not some Korean chemically sharpenedcrap that rusts in your box. It’s hand made by me in Australia using Australian suppliers! And it’s cheaper than it’s equivalent (big fly) available on the market.

09.01.2022 Bulk pack of 6/0 gangs ready to cause chaos on anything with a mouth up north. Shoguns are are the weapon of choice with 40kg rolling swivels. $100 plus postage for these packs or $5.50 per two gang in smaller packs of 5 and 10 ... 10% off for return customers or referrals on these packs. #redemperor #coraltroutfishing #nannygai #cod #swainsreef #1770fishing #uvflasher #gangedflashers #spangledemperor

08.01.2022 4 pack of bkk 6/0 UV glow and a 50lb dropper rig for those days or pearlies and reefies are on the menu. $21 posted can send 4 sets of hooks and ball sinkers to suit your snapper snells and two hooks for your dropper for an extra $2.00 Pre made snelled rigs suited for strip baits on 6/0 BKK hooks are $7 with a couple of sinker weight options but with the swivel untied so the correct weight can be rigged to suit conditions and depths (If the current is roaring then double up weights )

08.01.2022 Just got sent this by one of my valued repeat customers from here on the Gold Coast. Attempts were made to release this 94cm model but unsuccessful, never the less great fish. #snappacandi #sydneyfishing #goldcoastfishing #snapperfishing #snapperfishingmelbourne

07.01.2022 Putting these guys upto the test this week. Hopefully I get the results I’m after but watch this space regardless

07.01.2022 New batch of snapper snells are ready. 6/0 BKK UV glow flashers top or bottom for various baits. Bottom flashers are longer as they won’t tangle in the rig. (Awesome with 5 strip baits) 40lb leader can be heavier on request and ore paid orders. Two zero balls between the hooks and swivels sent seperate so you can add weight to suit your conditions while you rig up to fish.... $7 each, $4 postage aon all orders send me a message for all orders

07.01.2022 I feel like I’ve got there and now have the synthetic Uv range in a happy place at double the price of a generic flasher but with so much to offer in other areas such as multiple times the durability, fluid action, thoughtful patterns, lumo and UV properties along with non slip, locked off and tougher bindings. BKK hooks, locally sourced materials all hand made and resin finished are just another set of highlights to add to the spec. The feather flasher range puts itself up a...gainst the longer ties which call themselves flies basically a longer version on a larger hook. I am pretty confident these come in way under the market price ($3.00 cheaper) and offer the same properties at an extremely competitive stance on what quality and innovation should look like. With that said I haven’t modelled my larger feathered flashers off of any large Krystal flash ties available so it’s not really a worthwhile comparison as they are two different products.

04.01.2022 Old video but worth a revisit now that UV and UV glow has made its way into my arsenal as a permanent fixture. This is a lure but the same principle can be applied to the feathered flashers with the flouro lead eyes These as a snelled rig especially on the bottom of the two hooks and a strip bait will erase any need to even think about a two hook dropper rig when targeting bigger fish. ... We’ve seen the best action in the middle of bite periods so while others say their flashers should be used when fishing is slow, I’m not contesting but in saying that these work all round the tide and different times of the day. For $10 I can do these weighted and rigged snells with 2 BKK hooks. Not Korean chemically sharpened bear in mind I have my rigs made on Gold Coast, terminal tackle and sinkers sourced locally so that’s another 3 Aussie families on top of the 2 I already use just in one rig. Please note I run the synthetic rigs left open to add your own lead while rigging for $7 this is the premium version for offshore or specifically targetting larger specimens. #snapperfishing #snappacandi #uvglowflasher

04.01.2022 This weeks snapper 6/0 beaks are looking pretty fine Next dispatch for the snelled rigs will be Friday arvo so got a few days to get on them before they are gone. I’ll be doing batches of singles going into the weekend ready for sending out on Monday once I fix up a few lures and take a day off to clear my head. ... Plenty of dropper rigs here too if anyone wants to stock up on convenience. I’ll send a rig for every 2 singles purchased. That’s $9 a dropper rig with 2x BKK Uv glow flashers on 50lb Tiagra subtle trace made locally available right now- top that or I’ll price match it OR Use one for a floatline and top the dropper with the other, I’ll send another hook for the bottom dropper at 60c each for a BKK. $4 postage

04.01.2022 Fishing with flashers- Follow up pics from that last video of the first mahi on a flasher tube slider rig for @adamy30 I had two decent fish in the box while the rats were pestering his baits, chucked on the new yakka pattern tube and got smashed straight up by this healthy bar of gold. Usual story, up early, half asleep, cooked from the sun and empty bellies but wouldn’t have it any other way. 03.01.2022 Bit of spotty action, looking forward to getting back out after the weekend. Follow up from the earlier post of yesterday’s trip out with Adam. ***Note how easy the float works on the line and pops off boat side for easy retrieval

02.01.2022 Recap from 4 months ago showing just how fluid the feathered versions are and how they bounce light in different ways

02.01.2022 Who else headed out over the last few days and got stuck in about them? I was lucky enough mid week to get some product testing going, mainly the 6/0 UV glow snapper rigs using 40lb. Mullet strips that I salted then marinaded and whole squid that I picked up from The Bait Shop Gold Coast doing most of the damage on the night. ... We bagged out on 70+ fish despite the bite being slow and cracked a couple rums before heading home #snappcandi #moretonbay #snapperfishing #bkkhooksaustralia #suncoastskutes

01.01.2022 UV GLOW FLASHERS Last night I introduced one pattern via live stream so here is the completed sets going 4 for $20 or 10 for $47.50 or 20 for $90.... Paternoster/dropper rigs on 50lb this weekend for Father’s Day and all next week will be $8 each and upto $10 the following week while stocks last, not that there is any shortage of these flashers. 01.01.2022 Adam and I getting stuck into these speedsters yesterday- as always a great way to let of some steam and get some salt air.
