22.01.2022 The health benefits of gardening with children Giving children the opportunity to get involved in the garden and grow fruit and veg can really give them a project that they can take pride in, something that can teach valuable lessons about where food comes from and how things grow. As the children continue to garden, The children will improve and engage their fine motor skills and gross motor by bending, stretching, digging, planting and watering. This activity encourages t...he children to use their upper and lower body. They learn to love the different types of foods that they grow including these Capsicums which children may not have tasted before. Gardening enhances all the five senses including - Sight (Can you see any vegetables or fruit on the plant?) - Touch (What does it feel like?) - Smell (What does it smell like?) - Taste (What does it taste like?) - Hear (Can you hear a crunch when biting into the vegetable?) We embed science into gardening by asking questions like What makes leaves green? Why do plants need sunlight to thrive? Why do plants grow better in varies types of soil? Maths is a big part of gardening, We are asking questions like How far apart should seeds be planted? How many does that mean you can plant in each row? How much water does each plant need? How many hours of sunlight will plants get each day? Gardening teaches the children responsibility, sustainability, ownership, life skills, healthy eating, patience and self-confidence. This is part of our community garden.The children take great pride in their garden. They show true expression when finding or picking a vegetable. Following on from this learning experience, the educators will ask the children to help and find a recipe for children to enjoy together by using our very own vegetables from the garden.

01.01.2022 Families and children of sunshine daycare. As most of you are aware, Coronavirus is a big issue world wide. To illuminate the risk of infection, we ask everyone to please use our new hand sanitiser and protectant located beside the sign in iPad. This sanitiser is alcohol free so can be used on children as well as adults. Keep in mind, we all need to wash hands continuously when entering and existing any building.
