24.01.2022 I’m really white and privileged - so this veers towards my own intersections, I’m not about to write from the pov of POC. I hope it is still valid. More: Explaining Intersections. https://link.medium.com/F262qdZj76... #blacklivesmatter #blm #allies #equity #inclusion Text in first image: "The atypical only exists once you have defined what is typical. Privilege means the 'typical doesn't need definition... cause, duh. Obvs. Now you have yourself some social injustice. Black Lives Matter, because Black people get killed. The word 'Black' is essential here. All Lives Matter deletes the context of the complaint. Sometimes a label is necessary: often unnecessary. Normally we don't notice. The silent part is your privilege: the visible part is unjust. If you aren't using Normal your sentence doesn't need Unusual. If you aren't using Brunette' then don't use Ginger, or Blonde. If you aren't using White' you won't need Black or Brown. If you aren't using Christian or Atheist you won't need Muslim or Jewish or Sikh. If you aren't using "Straight-sized you don't need Plus-sized. or Fat. or Huge. If you aren't using Abled' you might not actually need Disabled. If your age isn't important, then no one else should be Young or Old. If you wouldn't use Cis' you shouldn't need Trans. If you wouldn't use 'Allistic' you won't want Autistic If you wouldn't use 'Partnered' you don't need Single, Poly. Divorced, or Widowed. If you wouldn't use 'Heterosexual", why point out the Gays, the Lesbians, or Bisexuals? If you wouldn't use a Man' you don't need to share that she's a Woman. Even pronouns are tools of structural prejudice. Labels are good for identity, but not as labels. It's not empowering to label someone unless that is directly in their interest. We keep having to invent new labels, or reclaim old ones as they become stigmatised or curse words. It's tiring policing a language of identity."

24.01.2022 I loved this talk! Not the talk - just the WHOLE thing - here are some edited highlights (and the fails are needed for context too). I love what Ulrich and team and the Museum of Other Realities set out to do! I love their bravery and there 'no fail' attitude. In an environment like that - of course it failed - and, as always, that is the best way to learn and think... Also check out the beautiful sax performance (and the amazing avatar dancing) at the end. ... VRHAM is a Virtual Reality & Arts Festival by and for artists using the novel medium Virtual Reality to explore new dimensions. The year 2020 is a challenging one for all festivals - and due to the effects of the Corona Pandemic the 2020 VRAHM! festival took place as an online-only festival. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP8CaaaZuiI

23.01.2022 Loud & Proud is an anthology of speeches by LGBTQ+ activists. We start in Germany in the 19th century. (Did you know they invented the word homosexual?) There’s a mass of Moms (intentionally), some Republicans, and the odd actor. There are not enough Queer, NB, or Bi folk but there are more than enough pop stars & politicians, and some amazing poets, a crush or two (shhhhh ALison Bechdel) , and speeches that make my heartache. It’s been an amazing journey. Speeches that celebrate PoC, acknowledge our intersectional history, recognise our activist elders, learn you a thing or two. Speeches that changed minds, opened hearts, conjured tears, Speeches that empower & inspire. I hope you like it..

01.01.2022 This is a sort of 'wrap' film for a project called Sounds in Space. A 3.5 year project exploring the nature of sound, location and orientation in space. Essentially what happens when we allow sound to exist relative to you, and have a tangible presence. The Sound in Space technology allows you to place virtual sounds in a 3D space using a mobile phone. Once the sounds are placed, audience members can walk around the space wearing headphones to hear the sounds, all of which ar...e binaural and respond to the person’s movement within the space. MORE BRAVE PARTNERS. We were lucky enough to work with the incredible Heidi Latsky and her dance Company in New York in 2018: https://youtu.be/1kU-uDxupV0 Every collaboration became it's own adventure - the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Sydney in 2019, our friends at Sandpit in Adelaide, and finally my wonderful friend Agatha, who smuggled the concept away from John Kaldor to an amazing installation at MUMA in Melbourne in 2020. Agatha Gothe-Snape's Wet Matter can be seen, if not experienced, at https://vimeo.com/393792407 THE CODE IS OUT THERE. Finally we outsourced all the code so that anyone, anywhere can use it for their own experiments - it is (surprisingly) well documented on Rupert Parry's Github: https://github.com/rupertparry/sounds-in-space THE PEOPLE. Huge thanks to the entire Creative Lab Sydney team, especially Jonny, Sam, Jude and Rupert who worked tirelessly (they always work tirelessly... ) for years, on the strangest of ideas. I miss them, and I can't imagine a better montage of projects to step away with
