14.01.2022 There’s a few consults we as vets fight over, expressing anal glands isn’t one of them, but puppy consults are definitely on the top of that list! Dr Bec was lucky enough to see this cart full of adorable pups. Can we keep them all?

10.01.2022 The sky putting on a show this evening as the sun sets over our Manly West hospital. Happy weekend all!

10.01.2022 Ruff week? It’s okay - the weekend is almost here!

08.01.2022 Weight a minute. . . Coming out the other side of iso with a few extra kilo’s? Guilty! The silver lining from this pandemic has been we have been able to spend more time with our furry friends but we have been finding that for some this has also led to over-feeding. A quick way to check if your dog is within a healthy body condition score at home is that the ribs should be easy to feel (but not see) and a defined waist, or abdominal tuck, should be evident when your dog is viewed from the top and side. Depending on the thickness of your dog’s coat, you might have to feel for a defined waist or tuck if it is not readily visible.

08.01.2022 This is Sanza, one of a litter of rescue pups who have been cared for by the incredibly dedicated team at Deathrow Unchained Animal Rescue (DRU). Only weeks old and Sanza & his two siblings started showing worrying neurological signs, seizures and high temperatures. They have been hospitalized here at Supervets and have also received specialists management for meningitis, inflammation affecting the spinal cord and brain. These little guys have had a tough start to life but are proving to be fighters. To follow their progress and the other wonderful work DRU does like their Facebook or Instagram.

07.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS & YOUR PET Before you rush out to the supermarket to stock pile kitty litter let us reassure you there’s no reason for concern about your pet contracting coronavirus (COVID-19). This strain is not to be confused with the canine and feline coronavirus strains which is commonly characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms. These are viruses vets have seen and managed for years & has no relation to the virus orientating from China. ... Since the weak positive test COVID-19 result in a dog from Hong Kong there’s been some fear circulating in the media about this. While further testing is underway, this dog in Hong Kong has shown no clinical signs of the virus and is believed to be dead-end hosts meaning it can’t infect humans. For further information WHO for Animal Health website or read the article in the Courier Mail where our vet Dr Kate is interviewed. https://www.google.com.au//b89814b87ccd4bb5c35f9b104cf63161 *Photo featured in this post is not related to the coronavirus

06.01.2022 This orphaned baby was brought into Supervets after his mum was sadly hit by a car. The driver thankfully stopped to check & was able to save his life. Approximately 86,000 native animals are killed on Australian roads every year, and many of them are marsupials. If you spot a female kangaroo or other marsupial who has been hit, it’s important to check her pouch for a baby only if it’s safe to do so. Remember to never remove a Joey that is attached to the teat as this can c...ause severe damage to its mouth. Wildlife that are dropped into Supervets, just like this little guy, get assessed & are provided with any basic or emergency cares necessary (pain relief, fluid therapy, antibiotics). They are then transferred to the RSPCA / wildlife carer where they are given the best chance of rehabilitation and release back into the wild.

06.01.2022 This ragdoll kitten presented to Supervets unwell with abdominal symptoms, an ultrasound scan performed in hospital diagnosed intussusception. Intussusception is a telescoped segment of bowel. Animals affected are younger than 1 year of age in 75% of the cases. The blood supply to the intussuscepted piece of gut is compromised in this state which requires prompt surgical treatment. Emergency surgery was performed by Dr Ray which required resecting the portion of intestine that had been affected. The surgery was a success and now home, we’re so pleased with how well this gorgeous kitty has recovered.

05.01.2022 Our hardworking Supervet, Dr Joey always making time to sneak in a cuddle with our hospital patients. Can’t blame him when there’s pets as cute as ‘Moose’ here.

02.01.2022 We dropped off all the raffle ticket money to Deathrow Unchained this morning and while we were there we couldn’t resist joining the tour & seeing the rescued residents. We had the best time exploring DRU’s animal sanctuary, meeting the animals and learning more about their story. Thanks for having us!
