25.01.2022 All the boys had the pleasure today of meeting The Bit Fitter Gary Mudgway for their own bit fitting I was introduced to Gary recently when he presented a webinar to Acknowledged Retrainers on bit fitting, taking into account each horse’s individual conformation and way of going to find the right fit. Nacho in particular had always been super fussy in the contact, and Gary showed me some evidence of old trauma to his bars that would have been super uncomfortable for a bit ...to sit against. After a fitting I couldn’t believe the difference in the DC Dressage - he felt happy and steady to the contact for the first time! Donny (Brunswick Street) was also raced in this style, so I’ll be starting him out in the same bit once he retraining commences. Gary checked Donny was the same size, so we’re all good to go. Sunny got to try the full set of bits, and with his sharp bars and wider mouth it was incredible to feel how differently each bit changed his whole way of going. Though he felt good and quite consistent in the McHardy, the winner for Sunny was again the DC Dressage. It’s easy to see why this is the best-selling bombers bit! Thanks Gary for your time today and sharing your amazing knowledge. I can’t believe the difference in my horses and highly recommend speaking to Gary to find the best solution for a happy horse

23.01.2022 You’d never see a closer bond than this pair RIP Subbie, a horse of the people Fly high to be with Graham again https://www.facebook.com/162403730483816/posts/3352312184826272/?extid=9vOYG50EnUqe8GXy&d=n

23.01.2022 So many have contributed to Donny’s life journey, with many still so invested in seeing him do well. As the haters emerge during spring carnival, I’m compelled to share how kind, gentle and willing this special horse is - a direct result of the exceptional love and care received throughout his racing career at Garry Lefoe Racing. Donny’s racing contacts have tears of happiness hearing how well he is transitioning to a new career.... It’s an absolute honour to be trusted with such a loved and decorated racehorse. Donny will make them proud. #fortheloveofthehorse

23.01.2022 http:// FIRST & LAST RIDES - 2 MONTH CHECK-IN // This week marks two months since Donny’s first ride #offthetrack and with the robot cameraman (no more dodgy fence-post videos ) today’s ride is the perfect check-in point in his retraining! Donny liked to travel head-high on arrival and is very weak over his topline, so it’s taken lots of short lunge and riding sessions to start developing the strength and balance to carry himself. ... Only the past week he’s shown balance enough on the lunge to canter right, and this video shows the second time I’ve cantered him this direction riding (even picked up the correct lead with a little counter flexion ). Shows that taking time and not rushing pays off over time Of course every horse is different - some OTTs arrive working in a contact and well balanced in all paces. Others need more time... more body work... more gear changes... to make it all click. I’m really pleased with Donny’s progress. He had his first outing this week that showed me he needs a whole lot of leave the property and do nothing days to feel a bit less anxious about being ready to race. Next weekend we’ll pop in to our riding club rally for a walk around the grounds and see where we get to. Easy easy does it, Donny.

22.01.2022 When your secret weapon arrives in the mail Donny has picked the bit that makes him happy from Gary The Bit Fitter Full bit fitting update to follow (going to take some before and after video to believe the huge difference a simple bit can make )... #bombersbits

21.01.2022 http:// FIRST MONTH // It’s been just over a month since Donny started his retraining. His strength is improving so much every ride - he’s beginning to work in a more consistent contact, relax through his back and cover ground - we’ve found his forward-relaxed button! ... I’m super pleased with his progress particularly as he started so resistant and upside down. Slow and steady has been the key for him. Still some work to do investigating suspected ulcers (upcoming scope), and finding the perfect bit for him but all heading in the right direction so far

20.01.2022 Because we could all do with some Saturday morning cuteness https://www.facebook.com/1556011247949993/posts/2657123764505397/?extid=r6yqlP6KFgpnKBG8&d=n

19.01.2022 The prettiest ponies (and sunsets)

18.01.2022 http:// BRUNSWICK STREET // Boy can this guy move Must’ve felt great to stretch those legs after such a long trip

16.01.2022 http:// S T R E T C H // Second ride today for Brunswick Street The first ride was a quick test to see ‘where he’s at’. Donny doesn’t have a lot of sensitivity to the bit, and likes to go around head-high and hollow through his back which has previously led to some pelvic strain ... So today was a super simple lesson about teaching him to stretch down and forward. It didn’t take long and he started to get it a few strides at a time We finished our little session with a long-rein stroll around the property. I just love this guy - he’s so trainable and sensible, I am so excited about his future!

15.01.2022 He’s arrived! Meet BRUNSWICK STREET - 2018 winner of the Darwin Guineas Donny retired from racing last week, left Darwin on a truck Tuesday morning and arrived here today.... Donny has arrived looking great after his long trip and will now spend some well-deserved time spelling in a grassy paddock before he starts his retraining journey. Thanks to all Donny’s owners and connections for trusting me with the next phase of his career, and Rochelle for making it all happen ! I know this guy is a very well-loved character and I look forward to updating everyone with his training progress.

14.01.2022 HORSE SEARCH FOR A FRIEND Anyone have/know of a nice reliable horse for sale or lease? For an absolute 5* home, no expense spared in care (would be agisted in twice-daily care with me) Must be genuinely kind and reliable for the loveliest capable mumma with a young baby. ... PM me if you have something suitable

12.01.2022 http:// PROGRESS UPDATE - BRUNSWICK STREET // So pleased with how Donny’s training is coming along! Had his third Spinal vet treatment this week and given the all-clear to start some more consistent training after dramatic improvement in some old strain injuries... Farrier improved some issues we thought were causing tripping (today’s ride no tripping to be seen!) Few gear changes to get Donny feeling more comfortable including pressure-eze girth, bit change, and removing the noseband I suspect was rubbing on a sensitive sarcoid (need to work on this though as the stock-horse look isn’t working for me ) It all clicked today and the good bits started to feel really good Getting stronger each ride and starting to soften through his back, free up through his shoulders and stretch to the contact. So grateful to Cristy for getting a quick vid on her way past Think I need to ask Santa for a Pixem to capture more of these moments. Best boy, Donny Lots and lots of carrots today

11.01.2022 Mr photogenic... even covered in breakfast

09.01.2022 http:// BRUNSWICK STREET >> PROGRESS // After a saddle fit last week Donny’s training has continued to progress. His preference is still travelling with nose in the air () but slowly being convinced my way might be okay, too.... Still a long way to go, but definitely making progress. Will make a dressage horse out of you yet, Donny!

07.01.2022 http:// Donny update // Donny has settled in and enjoying his time spent working on filling out that belly Visit from the dentist yesterday, more bodywork from the spinal vet next week then this guy is getting close to starting his retraining. ... You’ll see from the last photo, Donny’s been winning hearts young and old

04.01.2022 Early morning start Re-programming those muscles and looking less like an each session

01.01.2022 Hope you’re all surviving the lockdown If everyone does the right thing now, we’ll all be back competing before too long. Take this time to show yourself some love, take care and hope to see you out and about soon ... Sunny training at home in some of this weekend’s sunshine
